Psalms 33
1 [A Psalm] of David. Rejoice in the Lord, you righteous; praise becomes the upright.
Gij rechtvaardigen, heft Jahweh een jubelzang aan; De psalm is een lust voor de vromen!
2 Praise the Lord on the harp; platy to him on a lute of ten strings.
Looft Jahweh met citers, Bespeelt voor Hem de tiensnarige harp;
3 Sing to him a new song; play skillfully with a loud noise.
Stemt een nieuw lied voor Hem aan, Tokkelt de lieren, lustig en luid!
4 For the word of the Lord is right; and all his works are faithful.
Want Jahweh’s woord is waarachtig, Onveranderlijk al zijn daden.
5 He loves mercy and judgment; the earth is full the mercy of the Lord.
Gerechtigheid en recht heeft Hij lief; Van Jahweh’s goedheid is de aarde vol.
6 By the word of the Lord the heavens were established; and all the host of them by the breath of his [mouth].
Door het woord van Jahweh zijn de hemelen gemaakt, Door de adem van zijn mond heel hun heir;
7 Who gathers the waters of the sea as [in] a bottle; who lays up the deeps in treasuries.
Hij verzamelde het water der zee in een zak, Legde de oceanen in schuren op.
8 Let all the earth fear the Lord; and let all that dwell in the world be moved because of him.
Heel de aarde moet Jahweh vrezen, Al de bewoners der wereld Hem duchten.
9 For he spoke, and they were made; he commanded, and they were created.
Want Hij sprak: en het was; Hij gebood: en het stond.
10 The Lord frustrates the counsels of the nations; he brings to nothing also the reasonings of the peoples, and brings to nothing the counsels of princes.
De raadslagen der volken gooit Jahweh omver, Hij verijdelt de plannen der naties;
11 But the counsel of the Lord endures for ever, the thoughts of his heart from generation to generation.
Maar Jahweh’s raadsbesluit staat in eeuwigheid vast: Wat zijn hart heeft bedacht, van geslacht tot geslacht.
12 Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord; the people whom he has chosen for his own inheritance.
Gelukkig de natie, die Jahweh tot God heeft, Het volk, dat Hij Zich tot erfdeel verkoos!
13 The Lord looks out of heaven; he beholds all the sons of men.
Jahweh ziet neer uit de hemel, Richt zijn blik op alle kinderen der mensen.
14 He looks from his prepared habitation on all the dwellers on the earth;
Hij let van de plaats, waar Hij troont, Op alle bewoners der aarde:
15 who fashioned their hearts alone; who understands all their works.
Hij, die aller hart heeft geschapen, En al hun daden doorgrondt.
16 A king is not saved by reason of a great host; and a giant shall not be delivered by the greatness of his strength.
Geen koning overwint door de macht van zijn heir, Geen held wordt gered door geweldige kracht;
17 A horse is vain for safety; neither shall he be delivered by the greatness of his power.
Ook het ros kan de zege niet schenken, Door zijn grote snelheid niet redden.
18 Behold, the eyes of the Lord are on them that fear him, those that hope in his mercy;
Maar het oog van Jahweh rust op hen, die Hem vrezen, En die op zijn goedheid vertrouwen:
19 to deliver their souls from death, and to keep them alive in famine.
Om ze te redden van de dood, Ze in het leven te houden bij hongersnood.
20 Our soul waits on the Lord; for he is our helper and defender.
Onze ziel blijft opzien tot Jahweh: Hij is onze hulp en ons schild;
21 For our heart shall rejoice in him, and we have hoped in his holy name.
In Hem verheugt zich ons hart, Wij vertrouwen op zijn heilige Naam.
22 Let your mercy, O Lord, be upon us, according as we have hoped in you.
Uw genade, o Jahweh, dale over ons neer, Naarmate wij op U blijven hopen!
