Psalms 146

1 Alleluia, [a Psalm] of Aggaeus and Zacharias. My soul, praise the Lord.

Dýrð sé Guði! Já, ég vil vegsama hann!

2 While I live will I praise the Lord: I will sing praises to my God as long as I exist.

Ég vil lofa hann á meðan ég lifi, vegsama hann fram á síðustu stund.

3 Trust not in princes, nor in the children of men, in whom there is no safety.

Reiddu þig ekki á hjálp valdsmanna, því að þeir falla og ekkert verður úr aðstoð þeirra.

4 His breath shall go forth, and he shall return to his earth; in that day all his thoughts shall perish.

Þeir munu deyja og andi þeirra líður burt, áform þeirra verða að engu.

5 Blessed is he whose helper is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the Lord his God:

En sæll er sá maður sem reiðir sig á hjálp Guðs, Guðs Jakobs, sem vonar á Drottin, Guð sinn

6 who made heaven, and earth, the sea, and all things in them: who keeps truth for ever:

– þann Guð sem skapaði himin og jörð og hafið og allt sem í því er. Hann er sá Guð sem óhætt er að treysta!

7 who executes judgment for the wronged: who gives food to the hungry. The Lord looses the fettered ones:

Hann leitar réttar fátækra og kúgaðra og gefur hungruðum brauð. Hann frelsar fanga,

8 the Lord gives wisdom to the blind: The Lord sets up the broken down: the Lord loves the righteous: the Lord preserves the strangers;

opnar augu blindra, lyftir okinu af þeim sem eru að bugast. Drottinn elskar þá sem gera rétt.

9 he will relieve the orphan and widow: but will utterly remove the way of sinners.

Hann verndar útlendingana sem sest hafa að í landinu og gætir réttinda ekkna og einstæðinga, en ónýtir ráðabrugg vondra manna.

10 The Lord shall reign for ever, [even] your God, O Sion, to all generations.

Drottinn mun ríkja að eilífu. Jerúsalem, veistu að Drottinn er konungur að eilífu?! Hallelúja!
