< Proverbs 21 >
1 As a rush of water, so is the king's heart in God's hand: he turns it wherever he may desire to point out.
Ngoro ya mũthamaki ĩrĩ moko-inĩ ma Jehova; amĩroragia o kũrĩa ekwenda, o ta ũrĩa maaĩ moinithagĩrio mĩtaro-inĩ.
2 Every man seems to himself righteous; but the Lord directs the hearts.
Mũndũ oonaga mĩthiĩre yake yothe ĩrĩ mĩega, no Jehova athimaga ngoro.
3 To do justly and to speak truth, are more pleasing to God than the blood of sacrifices.
Gwĩka ũrĩa kwagĩrĩire na ũrĩa ũrĩ kĩhooto nĩ gwĩtĩkagĩrwo nĩ Jehova gũkĩra kũruta igongona.
4 A high-minded man is stout-hearted in [his] pride; and the lamp of the wicked is sin.
Maitho ma mwĩtũũgĩrio na ngoro ya mwĩtĩĩo, o icio tawa wa arĩa aaganu-rĩ, nĩ mehia!
Mĩbango ya arĩa marĩ kĩyo nĩĩrehaga uumithio, o ta ũrĩa ti-itherũ ihenya inene rĩrehaga ũthĩĩni.
6 He that gathers treasures with a lying tongue pursues vanity [on] to the snares of death.
Kũgĩa na ũtonga na njĩra ya rũrĩmĩ rwa maheeni nĩ kĩbii gĩa gũthira, na nĩ mũtego wa gĩkuũ.
7 Destruction shall lodge with the ungodly; for they refuse to do justly.
Haaro ya andũ arĩa aaganu ĩkaamakururia, ĩmeherie, nĩgũkorwo nĩmaregaga gwĩka ũrĩa kwagĩrĩire.
8 To the froward God sends froward ways; for his works are pure and right.
Njĩra ya mũndũ mũhĩtia nĩ njogomu, no mĩthiĩre ya mũndũ ũrĩa ũtarĩ mahĩtia nĩ mĩrũngarũ.
9 [It is] better to dwell in a corner on the house-top, than in plastered [rooms] with unrighteousness, and in an open house.
Nĩ kaba gũtũũra nyũmba-igũrũ, koine-inĩ, gũkĩra gũtũũra nyũmba thĩinĩ na mũtumia wa haaro.
10 The soul of the ungodly shall not be pitied by any man.
Mũndũ ũrĩa mwaganu eriragĩria gwĩka o ũũru; ndaiguuagĩra mũndũ wa itũũra rĩake tha.
11 When an intemperate man is punished the simple becomes wiser: and a wise man understanding will receive knowledge.
Hĩndĩ ĩrĩa mũnyũrũrania aaherithio, arĩa maagĩte ũũgĩ nĩmohĩgaga; hĩndĩ ĩrĩa mũndũ mũũgĩ aataarwo nĩagĩĩaga na ũmenyo.
12 A righteous man understands the hearts of the ungodly: and despises the ungodly for their wickedness.
Ũrĩa Mũthingu, o we Ngai, nĩonaga nyũmba ya ũrĩa mwaganu, na akarehithĩria ũcio mwaganu mwanangĩko.
13 He that stops his ears from hearing the poor, himself also shall cry, and there shall be none to hear [him].
Mũndũ angĩhinga matũ ndakaigue kĩrĩro kĩa arĩa athĩĩni-rĩ, o nake agaakaya na ndone wa kũmwĩtĩka.
14 A secret gift calms anger: but he that forbears to give stirs up strong wrath.
Kĩheo kĩheanĩtwo na hitho nĩkĩhooreragia marakara, na ihaki ihithe nguo-inĩ rĩhooreragia mangʼũrĩ manene.
15 [It is] the joy of the righteous to do judgment: but a holy [man] is abominable with evil-doers.
Ituĩro rĩa kĩhooto rĩatuuo, rĩrehaga gĩkeno kũrĩ andũ arĩa athingu, no rĩrehaga kĩmako kũrĩ arĩa mekaga ũũru.
16 A man that wanders out of the way of righteousness, shall rest in the congregation of giants.
Mũndũ ũrĩa ũtiganaga na njĩra ya ũũgĩ, akaahurũkĩra kĩũngano-inĩ kĩa arĩa akuũ.
17 A poor man loves mirth, loving wine and oil in abundance;
Mũndũ ũrĩa mwendi ikeno nĩagathĩĩna; ũrĩa wothe mwendi ndibei na maguta-rĩ, gũtirĩ hĩndĩ agaatonga.
18 and a transgressor is the abomination of a righteous man.
Mũndũ ũrĩa mwaganu atuĩkaga irĩhi rĩa gũkũũra ũrĩa mũthingu, na ũrĩa ũtarĩ mwĩhokeku agatuĩka irĩhi rĩa gũkũũra ũrĩa mũrũngĩrĩru.
19 [It is] better to dwell in a wilderness than with a quarrelsome and talkative and passionate woman.
Nĩ kaba gũtũũra werũ-inĩ, gũkĩra gũtũũra na mũtumia wa haaro na kũrakara narua.
20 A desirable treasure will rest on the mouth of the wise; but foolish men will swallow it up.
Thĩinĩ wa nyũmba ya mũndũ mũũgĩ nĩ kũrĩ mĩthemba yothe ya irio njega o na maguta, no mũndũ mũkĩĩgu arĩĩaga kĩrĩa gĩothe arĩ nakĩo.
21 The way of righteousness and mercy will find life and glory.
Mũndũ ũrĩa ũthingataga ũthingu na wendani nĩagĩĩaga na muoyo, na ũgaacĩru, na gĩtĩĩo.
22 A wise man assaults strong cities, and demolishes the fortress in which the ungodly trusted.
Mũndũ mũũgĩ atharĩkagĩra itũũra inene rĩa andũ arĩa njamba, na akamomora kĩĩhitho kĩa hinya kĩrĩa mehokete.
23 He that keeps his mouth and his tongue keeps his soul from trouble.
Mũndũ ũrĩa ũmenyagĩrĩra kanua gake na rũrĩmĩ rwake nĩeyeheragia mũtino-inĩ.
24 A bold and self-willed and insolent [man] is called a pest: and he that remembers injuries is a transgressor.
Mũndũ mwĩtĩĩi na mwĩgereri, etagwo “Mũnyũrũria”; ekaga maũndũ make na mwĩtĩĩo mũnene.
25 Desires kill the sluggard; for his hands do not choose to do anything.
Merirĩria ma mũndũ kĩgũũta nĩmo makaamũũraga, tondũ moko make matiendaga kũruta wĩra.
26 An ungodly man entertains evil desires all the day: but the righteous is unsparingly merciful and compassionate.
Mũthenya wothe eriragĩria o makĩria, no arĩa athingu maheanaga mategũtara.
27 The sacrifices of the ungodly are abomination to the Lord, for they offer them wickedly.
Igongona rĩa mũndũ mwaganu nĩ kĩndũ kĩrĩ magigi: ĩ rĩtikĩrĩ magigi makĩria hĩndĩ ĩrĩa rĩrehetwo na ũhinga ngoro-inĩ!
28 A false witness shall perish; but an obedient man will speak cautiously.
Mũira wa maheeni nĩgũthira agaathira, nake ũrĩa ũmũthikagĩrĩria akaanangwo nginya tene.
29 An ungodly man impudently withstands with his face; but the upright man himself understands his ways.
Mũndũ mwaganu erũagĩrĩra na ũrũme, no mũndũ mũrũngĩrĩru nĩeciiragia ũhoro wa mĩthiĩre yake.
30 There is no wisdom, there is no courage, there is no counsel against the ungodly.
Gũtirĩ ũũgĩ, kana ũmenyi, kana kĩrĩra o na kĩrĩkũ kĩngĩhota gũũkĩrĩra Jehova.
31 A horse is prepared for the day of battle; but help is of the Lord.
Mbarathi nĩĩharagĩrio nĩ ũndũ wa mũthenya wa mbaara, no ũhootani uumaga kũrĩ Jehova.
