Nehemiah 4
1 Now it came to pass, when Sanaballat heard that we were building the wall, that it was grievous to him, and he was very angry, and railed against the Jews.
১সন্বল্লট যখন শুনতে পেল যে, আমরা দেওয়াল গাঁথছি, তখন সে রেগে গেল ও খুব বিরক্ত হল, আর ইহুদীদের বিদ্রূপ করল।
2 And he said before his brethren (that [is] the army of the Samaritans) [Is it true] that these Jews are building their city? do they indeed offer sacrifices? will they prevail? and will they this day restore the stones, after they have been burnt and made a heap of rubbish?
২আর সে নিজের ভাইদের ও শমরীয় সৈন্যদলের সামনে বলল, “এই দুর্বল ইহুদীরা করছে কি? তারা কি নিজেদেরকে শক্তিশালী করবে? এরা কি বলিদান উত্সর্গ করবে? এক দিনের ই কি শেষ করবে? টুকরো কাঁকড়ের ঢিবি থেকে পাথর সব তুলে কি জীবিত করবে?” এসব যে পুড়ে গেছে!
3 And Tobias the Ammanite came near to him, and said to them, Do they sacrifice or eat in their place? shall not a fox go up and pull down their wall of stones?
৩তখন অম্মোনীয় টোবিয় তার পাশে ছিল; সে বলল, “ওরা যা গাঁথছে, তার উপরে যদি শিয়াল ওঠে, তবে তাদের সেই পাথরের দেওয়াল ভেঙে পড়বে।”
4 Hear, O our God, for we have become a scorn; and return you their reproach upon their head, and make them a scorn in a land of captivity,
৪“হে আমাদের ঈশ্বর, শোন, কারণ আমরা অবহেলিত হলাম; ওদের টিটকারি ওদের মাথায় ফিরিয়ে দাও এবং ওদেরকে বন্দী করে লুট করা জিনিসের মত বিদেশে থাকতে দাও;
5 and do not cover [their] iniquity.
৫ওদের অন্যায় ঢেকে রেখো না ও ওদের পাপ তোমার সামনে থেকে মুছে যেতে দিও না; কারণ ওরা গাঁথকদের সামনে তোমাকে অসন্তুষ্ট করেছে।”
৬এই ভাবে আমরা দেওয়াল গাঁথলাম, তাতে উচ্চতার অর্ধেক পর্যন্ত সমস্ত দেওয়াল একসাথে যুক্ত হল, কারণ লোকদের কাজ করার ইচ্ছা ছিল।
7 But it came to pass, when Sanaballat and Tobia, and the Arabians, and the Ammanites, heard that the building of the walls of Jerusalem was advancing, [and] that the breaches began to be stopped, that it appeared very grievous to them.
৭আর সন্বল্লট ও টোবিয় এবং আরবীয়েরা, অম্মোনীয়েরা ও অস্দোদীয়েরা যখন শুনতে পেল, যিরূশালেমের দেওয়ালের সারাই সম্পূর্ণ হচ্ছে ও তার ছিদ্র সব বন্ধ করতে শুরু করা হয়েছে, তখন তারা খুব রেগে গেল;
8 And all of them assembled together, to come to fight against Jerusalem, and to destroy it utterly.
৮আর তারা সবাই যিরূশালেমের বিরুদ্ধে যুদ্ধ করার জন্য ও গোলমাল শুরু করার জন্য ষড়যন্ত্র করল।
9 So we prayed to our God and set watchmen against them day and night, because of them.
৯কিন্তু তাদের ভয়ে আমরা আমাদের ঈশ্বরের কাছে প্রার্থনা করলাম ও তাদের বিরুদ্ধে দিন রাত পাহারাদার নিযুক্ত করলাম।
10 And Juda said, The strength of the enemies is broken, yet [there is] much rubbish, and we shall not be able to build the wall.
১০আর যিহূদার লোকেরা বলল, “মজুরেরা দুর্বল হয়ে পড়েছে এবং পড়ে থাকা কাঁকড় অনেক আছে, দেওয়াল গাঁথা আমাদের অসম্ভব!”
11 And they that afflicted us said, They shall not know, and they shall not see, until we come into the midst of them, and kill them, and cause the work to cease.
১১আবার আমাদের শত্রুরা বলল, “ওরা জানবে না, দেখবে না, অমনি আমরা ওদের মধ্যে গিয়ে ওদেরকে হত্যা করে কাজ বন্ধ করব।”
12 And it came to pass, when the Jews who lived near them came, that they said to us, They are coming up against us from every quarter.
১২আর তাদের কাছাকাছি বাস করা ইহুদীরা সব জায়গা থেকে এসে দশ বার আমাদেরকে বলল, “তোমাদেরকে আমাদের কাছে ফিরে আসতে হবে।”
13 So I set [men] in the lowest part of the place behind the wall in the lurking-places, I even set the people according to their families, with their swords, their spears, and their bows.
১৩অতএব আমি দেওয়ালের পিছনে নীচের খোলা জায়গায় লোক নিযুক্ত করলাম, নিজের নিজের বংশ অনুসারে তরোয়াল, বর্শা ও ধনুক সমেত লোক নিযুক্ত করলাম।
14 And I looked, and arose, and said to the nobles, and to the captains, and to the rest of the people, Be not afraid of them: remember our great and terrible God, and fight for your brethren, your sons, your daughters, your wives, and your houses.
১৪পরে আমি চেয়ে দেখলাম এবং উঠে প্রধান লোকদেরকে, শাসনকর্তাদেরকে ও অন্য সব লোকদেরকে বললাম, “তোমরা ওদেরকে ভয় পেয় না; মহান ও ভয়ঙ্কর প্রভুকে মনে কর এবং নিজের নিজের ভাইদের, ছেলে মেয়েদের, স্ত্রীদের ও ঘরের জন্য যুদ্ধ কর।”
15 And it came to pass, when our enemies heard that it was made known to us, and God had frustrated their counsel, that we all returned to the wall, [every] man to his work.
১৫আর যখন আমাদের শত্রুরা শুনতে পেল যে, আমরা জানতে পেরেছি, আর ঈশ্বর তাদের ষড়যন্ত্র ব্যর্থ করেছেন, তখন আমরা সবাই দেওয়াল আবার নিজের নিজের কাজ করতে গেলাম।
16 And it came to pass from that day [that] half of them that had been driven forth, wrought the work, and half of them kept guard; and [there were] spears, and shields, and bows, and breastplates, and rulers behind the whole house of Juda,
১৬আর সেই দিন থেকে আমার যুবকদের অর্ধেক লোক কাজ করত, অন্য অর্ধেক লোক বর্শা, ঢাল, ধনুক ও বর্ম ধরে থাকত এবং সমস্ত যিহূদা বংশের পিছনে শাসনকর্তারা থাকতেন।
17 even of them that were building the wall: —and those who carried the burdens [were] under arms: [each] with one hand wrought his work, and with the other held his dart.
১৭যারা দেওয়াল গাঁথত, আর যারা ভার বহন করত, আর যারা ভার তুলে দিত, সবাই এক হাতে কাজ করত, অন্য হাতে অস্ত্র ধরত;
18 And the builders [wrought] each man having his sword girded upon his loins, and so they built: and the trumpeter with his trumpet next to him.
১৮আর গাঁথকেরা প্রত্যেকজন কোমরে তরোয়াল বেঁধে গাঁথত এবং তূরীবাদক আমার পাশে থাকত।
19 And I said to the nobles, and to the rulers, and to the rest of the people, The work [is] great and abundant, and we are dispersed upon the wall, each at a great distance from his brother.
১৯আর আমি প্রধান লোকদেরকে, শাসনকর্তাদেরকে ও অন্য সব লোককে বললাম, “এই কাজ বড় ও ব্যাপক এবং আমরা দেওয়ালের উপরে আলাদা আলাদা হয়ে একজন থেকে অন্য জন দূরে আছি;
20 In whatever place you shall hear the sound of the cornet, there gather yourselves together to us; and our God shall fight for us.
২০তোমরা যে কোনো জায়গায় তূরীর শব্দ শুনবে, সেই জায়গায় আমাদের কাছে জড়ো হবে; আমাদের ঈশ্বর আমাদের জন্য যুদ্ধ করবেন।”
21 So we [continued] laboring at the work: and half of them held the spears from the rising of the morning until the stars appeared.
২১এই ভাবে আমরা কাজ করতাম এবং ভোর থেকে শুরু করে তারা দেখা পর্যন্ত আমাদের অর্ধেক লোক বর্শা ধরে থাকত।
22 And at that time I said to the people, Lodge you every man with his servant in the midst of Jerusalem, and let the night be a watch-time to you, and the day a work-time.
২২সেই দিন আমি লোকদেরকে আরও বললাম, “প্রত্যেক পুরুষ নিজের নিজের চাকরের সাথে রাতে যিরূশালেমের মধ্যে থাকুক; তারা রাতে আমাদের পাহারাদার হবে ও দিনের কাজ করবে।”
23 And I was [there], and the watchmen behind me, and there was not a man of us that put off his garments.
২৩অতএব আমি, আমার ভাইয়েরা, যুবকেরা ও আমার অনুসরণকারী রক্ষীরা কেউ পোশাক খুলতাম না, প্রত্যেকের কাছে নিজের নিজের অস্ত্র এবং জলের থাকত।
