Naum 1
1 The burden of Nineve: the book of the vision of Naum the Elkesite.
Dette er et utsagn om Ninive - en bok om elkositten Nahums syn.
2 God is jealous, and the Lord avenges; the Lord avenges with wrath; the Lord takes vengeance on his adversaries, and he cuts off his enemies.
En nidkjær og hevnende Gud er Herren, en hevner er Herren og full av harme; en hevner er Herren mot sine motstandere og en som gjemmer på vrede mot sine fiender.
3 The Lord is longsuffering, and his power is great, and the Lord will not hold any guiltless: his way is in destruction and in the whirlwind, and the clouds are the dust of his feet.
Herren er langmodig, men han er stor i kraft, og ustraffet lar han aldri den skyldige være. I hvirvelvind og storm har Herren sin vei, og skyer er støvet under hans føtter.
4 He threatens the sea, and dries it up, and exhausts all the rivers: the land of Basan, and Carmel are brought low, and the flourishing [trees] of Libanus have come to nothing.
Han truer havet og tørker det ut, og alle elvene gjør han tørre; Basan visner og Karmel, og Libanons blomst visner bort.
5 The mountains quake at him, and the hills are shaken, and the earth recoils at his presence, [even] the world, and all that dwell in it.
Fjellene skjelver for ham, og haugene smelter, og jorden hever sig for hans åsyn, jorderike og alle som bor der.
6 Who shall stand before his anger? and who shall withstand in the anger of his wrath? his wrath brings to nothing kingdoms, and the rocks are burst asunder by him.
Hvem holder stand for hans harme, og hvem utholder hans brennende vrede? Hans harme strømmer frem som ild, og fjellene styrter sammen for ham.
7 The Lord is good to them that wait on him in the day of affliction; and he knows them that reverence him.
Herren er god, et vern på trengselens dag, og han kjenner dem som tar sin tilflukt til ham.
8 But with an overrunning flood he will make an utter end: darkness shall pursue those that rise up against [him] and his enemies.
Men med en overskyllende flom skal han tilintetgjøre grunnen det står på, og mørket skal forfølge hans fiender.
9 What do you devise against the Lord? he will make a complete end: he will not take vengeance by affliction twice at the same time.
Hvad er det I tenker ut mot Herren? Han skal gjøre ende på eder; trengselen skal ikke komme to ganger.
10 For [the enemy] shall be laid bare even to the foundation, and shall be devoured as twisted yew, and as stubble fully dry.
For er de enn så sammenflettet som torner og så fulle som deres fullskap kan gjøre dem, så blir de like fullt aldeles fortært som tørr halm.
11 Out of you shall proceed a device against the Lord, counselling evil things hostile [to him].
Fra dig gikk det ut en som tenkte ut ondt mot Herren, som la op ugudelige råd.
12 Thus says the Lord who rules over many waters, Even thus shall they be sent away, and the report of you shall not be heard any more.
Så sier Herren: Er de enn i full kraft og mange i tall, skal de allikevel bli nedmeiet som de er, og borte er de. Har jeg plaget dig, så vil jeg ikke plage dig mere;
13 And now will I break his rod from off you, and will burst [your] bonds.
men nu vil jeg bryte det åk han la på dig, og sønderrive dine bånd.
14 And the Lord shall give a command concerning you; there shall no more of your name be scattered: I will utterly destroy the graven [images] out of the house of your god, and the molten [images]: I will make your grave; for [they are] swift.
Men om dig byder Herren så: Det skal ikke mere fødes nogen som bærer ditt navn; av din guds hus vil jeg utrydde både utskårne og støpte billeder; jeg vil gjøre i stand en grav for dig, for du er funnet for lett.
15 Behold upon the mountains the feet of him that brings glad tidings, and publishes peace! O Juda, keep your feasts, pay your vows: for they shall no more pass through you to [your] decay.
Se der på fjellene dens føtter som kommer med godt budskap - som forkynner fred! Hold dine høitider, Juda, opfyll dine løfter! For de ugudelige skal ikke mere trenge inn i ditt land, de er alle utryddet.
