Judges 21
1 Now the children of Israel swore in Massephath, saying, No man of us shall give his daughter to Benjamin for a wife.
Și bărbații lui Israel juraseră în Mițpa, spunând: Niciunul dintre noi nu va da pe fiica sa de soție, lui Beniamin.
2 And the people came to Baethel, and sat there until evening before God: and they lifted up their voice and wept with a great weeping;
Și poporul a venit la casa lui Dumnezeu și a rămas acolo până seara înaintea lui Dumnezeu; și și-au ridicat vocile și au plâns mult,
3 and said, Therefore, O Lord God of Israel, has this come to pass, that today one tribe should be counted [as missing] from Israel?
Și au spus: O, DOAMNE Dumnezeul lui Israel, de ce s-a întâmplat aceasta în Israel, ca să lipsească astăzi un trib din Israel?
4 And it came to pass on the morrow that the people rose up early, and built there an altar, and offered up whole burnt offerings and peace offerings.
Și s-a întâmplat a doua zi că poporul s-a sculat devreme și a zidit acolo un altar și au oferit ofrande arse și ofrande de pace.
5 And the children of Israel said, Who of all the tribes of Israel, went not up in the congregation to the Lord? for there was a great oath concerning those who went not up to the Lord to Massephath, saying, He shall surely be put to death.
Și copiii lui Israel au spus: Cine dintre toate triburile lui Israel nu s-a urcat cu adunarea înaintea DOMNULUI? Pentru că făcuseră un mare jurământ referitor la cel care nu s-a urcat la DOMNUL la Mițpa, spunând: Cu siguranță va fi dat la moarte.
6 And the children of Israel relented toward Benjamin their brother, and said, To-day one tribe is cut off from Israel.
Și copiii lui Israel s-au pocăit pentru Beniamin, fratele lor, și au spus: Un trib este stârpit din Israel astăzi.
7 What shall we do for wives for the rest that remain? whereas we have sworn by the Lord, not to give them of our daughters for wives.
Cum să facem rost de soții pentru cei care rămân, văzând că am jurat pe DOMNUL că nu le vom da dintre fiicele noastre, de soții?
8 And they said, What one [man is there] of the tribes of Israel, who went not up to the Lord to Massephath? and, behold, no man came to the camp from Jabis Galaad to the assembly.
Și au spus: Care dintre triburile lui Israel nu s-a urcat la Mițpa la DOMNUL? Și, iată, nimeni nu venise la tabără, la adunare, din Iabes-Galaad.
9 And the people were numbered, and there was not there a man from the inhabitants of Jabis Galaad.
Fiindcă poporul a fost numărat și, iată, nu era acolo nimeni dintre locuitorii Iabes-Galaadului.
10 And the congregation sent there twelve thousand men of the strongest, and they charged them, saying, Go you and strike the inhabitants of Jabis Galaad with the edge of the sword.
Și adunarea a trimis acolo douăsprezece mii de oameni dintre cei mai viteji și le-au poruncit, spunând: Duceți-vă și loviți cu ascuțișul sabiei pe locuitorii din Iabes-Galaad împreună cu femei și copii.
11 And this shall you do: every male and every woman that has known the lying with man you shall devote [to destruction], but the virgins you shall save alive: and they did so.
Și acesta este lucrul pe care să îl faceți: Să nimiciți cu desăvârșire orice parte bărbătească și pe orice femeie care s-a culcat cu bărbat.
12 And they found among the inhabitants of Jabis Galaad four hundred young virgins, who had not known man by lying with him; and they brought them to Selom in the land of Chanaan.
Și au găsit printre locuitorii din Iabes-Galaad patru sute de fecioare tinere, care nu cunoscuseră bărbat și care nu s-au culcat cu parte bărbătească; și le-au adus în tabără la Șilo, care este în țara Canaanului.
13 And all the congregation sent and spoke to the children of Benjamin in the rock Remmon, and invited them to [make] peace.
Și întreaga adunare a trimis pe câțiva să vorbească copiilor lui Beniamin, care erau la stânca Rimon și să îi cheme pașnic.
14 And Benjamin returned to the children of Israel at that time, and the children of Israel gave them the women whom they [had] save alive of the daughters of Jabis Galaad; and they were content.
Și Beniamin s-a întors în acel timp și ei le-au dat de soții pe acelea pe care le-au lăsat vii dintre femeile Iabes-Galaadului; și totuși nu le ajungeau.
15 And the people relented for Benjamin, because the Lord had made a breach in the tribes of Israel.
Și poporul s-a pocăit pentru Beniamin, pentru că DOMNUL făcuse o spărtură în triburile lui Israel.
16 And the elders of the congregation said, What shall we do for wives for them that remain? for the women have been destroyed out of Benjamin.
Atunci bătrânii adunării au spus: Cum să facem rost de soții pentru cei care rămân, văzând că femeile au fost nimicite din Beniamin?
17 And they said, [There must be] an inheritance of them that are escaped of Benjamin; and [so] a tribe shall not be destroyed out of Israel.
Și au spus: Trebuie să fie o moștenire pentru cei scăpați din Beniamin, să nu fie nimicit un trib din Israel.
18 For we shall not be able to give them wives of our daughters, because we swore among the children of Israel, saying, Cursed [is] he that gives a wife to Benjamin.
Totuși, nu putem să le dăm soții dintre fiicele noastre, căci copiii lui Israel au jurat, spunând: Blestemat fie cel care dă o soție lui Beniamin.
19 And they said, Behold! now [there is] a feast of the Lord from year to year in Selom, which is on the north of Baethel, eastward on the way that goes up from Baethel to Sychem, and from the south of Lebona.
Atunci au spus: Iată, este o sărbătoare anuală a DOMNULUI în Șilo, într-un loc care este spre nord de Betel, spre est de drumul mare care urcă de la Betel la Sihem, și spre sud de Lebona.
20 And they charged the children of Benjamin, saying, Go and lie in wait in the vineyards;
De aceea au poruncit copiilor lui Beniamin, spunând: Duceți-vă și pândiți în vii;
21 and you shall see; and behold! if there come out the daughters of the inhabitants of Selom to dance in dances, then shall you go out of the vineyards and seize for yourselves every man a wife of the daughters of Selom, and go you into the land of Benjamin.
Și vedeți și, iată, dacă fetele din Șilo ies să danseze cu dansuri, atunci ieșiți dintre vii și fiecare bărbat să își prindă o soție dintre fiicele din Șilo și apoi duceți-vă în țara lui Beniamin.
22 And it shall come to pass, when their fathers or their brethren come to dispute with us, that we will say to them, Grant them freely to us, for we have not taken every man his wife in the battle: because you did not give to them according to the occasion, you transgressed.
Și dacă părinții lor sau frații lor vor veni la noi să se plângă, atunci le vom spune: Fiți binevoitori cu ei din cauza noastră; fiindcă în război nu i-am păstrat fiecărui bărbat soția, pentru că nu voi le-ați dat de data aceasta, ca să fiți vinovați.
23 And the children of Benjamin did so; and they took wives according to their number from the dancers whom they seized: and they went and returned to their inheritance, and built the cities, and lived in them.
Și copiii lui Beniamin au făcut astfel și și-au prins soții, conform numărului lor, dintre cele care dansau, pe care le-au prins; și au mers și s-au întors la moștenirea lor și au reparat cetățile și au locuit în ele.
24 And the children of Israel went thence at that time every man to his tribe and his kindred; and they went thence every man to his inheritance.
Și copiii lui Israel au plecat de acolo în timpul acela, fiecare om la tribul său și la familia sa, și au ieșit de acolo fiecare la moștenirea sa.
25 And in those days there was no king in Israel; every man did that which was right in his own sight.
În acele zile nu era împărat în Israel; fiecare om făcea ceea ce era drept în ochii săi.
