Judges 20

1 And all the children of Israel went out, and all the congregation was gathered as one man, from Dan even to Bersabee, and in the land of Galaad, to the Lord at Massepha.

அப்போது தாண் தொடங்கி பெயெர்செபா வரையுள்ள எல்லா இஸ்ரயேல் மக்களும், கீலேயாத் மக்களோடு ஒரே மனதுடனே, யெகோவா முன்பாக மிஸ்பாவிலே ஒன்றுகூடி நின்றனர்.

2 And all the tribes of Israel stood before the Lord in the assembly of the people of God, four hundred thousand footmen that drew sword.

இஸ்ரயேல் கோத்திரத்தின் எல்லாத் தலைவர்களும் இறைவனுடைய மக்கள் சபையில் தங்கள் இடங்களில் நின்றனர். அங்கு நாலு இலட்சம் வால் ஏந்தும் போர்வீரர்களும் இருந்தனர்.

3 And the children of Benjamin heard that the children of Israel were gone up to Massepha: and the children of Israel came and said, Tell us, where did this wickedness take place?

இஸ்ரயேலர் மிஸ்பாவிலே ஒன்றுகூடியிருக்கிறார்கள் என பென்யமீன் மக்கள் கேள்விப்பட்டனர். அப்பொழுது இஸ்ரயேலர், “இக்கொடிய செயல் நடந்தது எப்படி?” எனக் கேட்டனர்.

4 And the Levite, the husband of the woman that was slain, answered and said, I and my concubine went to Gabaa of Benjamin to lodge.

அதற்கு கொலைசெய்யப்பட்ட பெண்ணின் கணவனான அந்த லேவியன், “நானும் எனது வைப்பாட்டியும் இரவு தங்குவதற்காக பென்யமீனியர் இருக்கும் கிபியாத்திற்கு வந்தோம்.

5 And the men of Gabaa rose up against me, and compassed the house by night against me; they wished to kill me, and they have humbled my concubine, and she is dead.

அன்று இரவு கிபியாத்தின் மனிதர்கள் எனக்குப்பின் வந்து நான் இருந்த வீட்டைச் சுற்றிவளைத்து என்னைக் கொலைசெய்ய எத்தனித்தார்கள். அவர்கள் எனது வைப்பாட்டியை கற்பழித்ததால் அவள் இறந்தாள்.

6 And I laid hold of my concubine, and divided her in pieces, and sent [the parts] into every coast of the inheritance of the children of Israel; for they have wrought lewdness and abomination in Israel.

இஸ்ரயேலில் இக்காமவெறி பிடித்த செய்யத்தகாத கொடுமையை இவர்கள் செய்ததினால், நான் எனது வைப்பாட்டியின் உடலைத் துண்டுகளாக வெட்டி, இஸ்ரயேலின் உரிமைச்சொத்தான எல்லா இடங்களுக்கும் அனுப்பினேன்.

7 Behold, all you [are] children of Israel; and consider and take counsel here among yourselves.

இப்பொழுது இஸ்ரயேலராகிய நீங்கள் எல்லாரும் இதைப் பற்றிப்பேசி, உங்கள் தீர்ப்பைச் சொல்லுங்கள்” என்று சொன்னான்.

8 And all the people rose up as one man, saying, No one of us shall return to his tent, and no one of us shall return to his house.

அப்பொழுது எல்லா மக்களும் ஒன்றுசேர்ந்து, “நாங்கள் யாரும் எங்கள் வீடுகளுக்குப் போகமாட்டோம். எங்களில் ஒருவனும் தன் வீடுகளுக்குத் திரும்புவதில்லை.

9 And now this [is] the thing which shall be done in Gabaa; we will go up against it by lot.

இப்பொழுது நாங்கள் கிபியாவிற்கு செய்யப்போவது இதுவே. சீட்டுப்போட்டு அதன்படி அதற்கெதிராகப் போவோம்.

10 Moreover we will take ten men for a hundred for all the tribes of Israel, and a hundred for a thousand, and a thousand for ten thousand, to take provision, to cause them to come to Gabaa of Benjamin, to do to it according to all the abomination, which they wrought in Israel.

நாங்கள் இஸ்ரயேலின் எல்லா கோத்திரங்களிலிருந்தும் ஒவ்வொரு நூறு பேரிலும் பத்துப்பேரையும், ஒவ்வொரு ஆயிரம் பேரிலும் நூறு பேரையும், ஒவ்வொரு பத்தாயிரம் பேரிலும் ஆயிரம்பேரையும் படைவீரருக்கு உணவு கொண்டுவருவதற்குத் தெரிந்தெடுப்போம். அதன்பின் படைவீரர் பென்யமீனிலுள்ள கிபியாவுக்கு வந்துசேர்ந்ததும், இஸ்ரயேலில் கிபியோனியர் செய்த இந்தக் கேவலமான செயலுக்காக அந்த படைவீரர் தண்டனை கொடுப்பார்கள்” என்றனர்.

11 And all the men of Israel were gathered to the city as one man.

எனவே இஸ்ரயேலில் எல்லா மனிதர்களும் ஒரே மனதுடையவர்களாய் அப்பட்டணத்திற்கு எதிராக ஒன்றுசேர்ந்தனர்.

12 And the tribes of Israel sent men through the whole tribe of Benjamin, saying, What [is] this wickedness that has been wrought among you?

இஸ்ரயேல் கோத்திரத்தார் தங்கள் மனிதர் சிலரை பென்யமீன் கோத்திரத்திடம் அனுப்பி, “உங்கள் மத்தியில் நடந்த இந்தக் கொடுமையான குற்றத்தைப்பற்றி என்ன சொல்கிறீர்கள்?

13 Now then give up the men the sons of transgressors that are in Gabaa, and we will put them to death, and purge out wickedness from Israel: but the children of Benjamin consented not to listen to the voice of their brethren the children of Israel.

கிபியாவிலிருக்கும் கொடுமையான இந்தச் செயலைச் செய்த எல்லா மனிதர்களையும் எங்களிடம் ஒப்படையுங்கள். நாங்கள் அவர்களைக் கொலைசெய்து இஸ்ரயேலிலிருந்து இந்தத் தீமையை நீக்குவோம்” எனச் சொல்லும்படி சொன்னார்கள். ஆனால் பென்யமீனியர் தங்கள் சகோதர இஸ்ரயேலருக்குச் செவிகொடுக்கவில்லை.

14 And the children of Benjamin were gathered from their cities to Gabaa, to go forth to fight with the children of Israel.

மாறாக அவர்கள் தங்கள் பட்டணத்திலிருந்து ஒன்றுசேர்ந்து இஸ்ரயேல் மக்களுடன் சண்டையிடுவதற்கு கிபியாவிற்கு வந்து கூடினர்.

15 And the children of Benjamin from their cities were numbered in that day, twenty-three thousand, [every] man drawing a sword, besides the inhabitants of Gabaa, who were numbered seven hundred chosen men of all the people, able to use both hands alike;

உடனே பென்யமீனியர் தங்கள் எல்லாப் பட்டணங்களிலிருந்தும் யுத்தத்திற்கு ஆயத்தமாக இருபத்தாறாயிரம் வாள் வீரர்களைத் திரட்டினர். அத்துடன் கிபியாவிலிருந்து தேர்ந்தெடுக்கப்பட்ட எழுநூறு வீரர்களையும் தங்களுடன் சேர்த்துக்கொண்டார்கள்.

16 All these could sling with stones at a hair, and not miss.

கிபியாவிலிருந்து தேர்ந்தெடுக்கப்பட்ட எழுநூறு வீரர்களும் இடதுகை பழக்க முடையவர்கள். இவர்கள் ஒவ்வொருவரும் மயிரிழையும் தப்பாமல் கவண் கல் வீசக்கூடியவர்கள்.

17 And the men of Israel, exclusive of Benjamin, were numbered four hundred thousand men that drew sword; all these [were] men of war.

அன்றையதினம் பென்யமீனியர் அல்லாத, மற்ற இஸ்ரயேலர், தங்களுக்குள் சண்டையிடக்கூடிய வாள் வீரர்கள் நானூறாயிரம் பேரைத் திரட்டினர்.

18 And they arose and went up to Baethel, and enquired of God: and the children of Israel said, Who shall go up for us first to fight with the children of Benjamin? And the Lord said, Juda shall go up first as leader.

அப்பொழுது இஸ்ரயேலர் பெத்தேலுக்குப் போய் இறைவனிடம் விசாரித்தனர். “பென்யமீன் மக்களுடன் போர்புரிய எங்களில் யார் முதலில் போகவேண்டும்” என்று கேட்டார்கள். அதற்கு யெகோவா, “யூதா முதலில் போகட்டும்” எனப் பதிலளித்தார்.

19 And the children of Israel rose up in the morning, and encamped against Gabaa.

மறுநாள் காலை இஸ்ரயேலர் எழுந்து கிபியாத்திற்கு அருகே முகாமிட்டார்கள்.

20 And they went out, all the men of Israel, to fight with Benjamin, and engaged with them at Gabaa.

இஸ்ரயேலர் பென்யமீனியருடன் எதிர்த்துப் போரிடுவதற்கு கிபியாவிலே நிலைகொண்டார்கள்.

21 And the sons of Benjamin went forth from Gabaa, and they destroyed in Israel on that day two and twenty thousand men down to the ground.

அன்று கிபியாவிலிருந்து வெளியேவந்த பென்யமீனியர், முனையில் நின்ற இருபத்து இரண்டாயிரம் இஸ்ரயேலரை வெட்டி வீழ்த்தினர்.

22 And the men of Israel strengthened themselves, and again engaged in battle in the place where they had engaged on the first day.

ஆனால் இஸ்ரயேல் மக்கள் ஒருவரையொருவர் உற்சாகப்படுத்திக்கொண்டு முதல்நாள் போருக்கு நின்ற இடத்திலேயே திரும்பவும் நின்றனர்.

23 And the children of Israel went up, and wept before the Lord till evening, and enquired of the Lord, saying, Shall we again draw near to battle with our brethren the children of Benjamin? and the Lord said, Go up against them.

அன்று இஸ்ரயேலர் யெகோவாவுக்கு முன்பாக சாயங்காலம்வரை அழுது, “எங்கள் சகோதரர்களான பென்யமீனியருக்கு எதிராக போருக்கு நாங்கள் போகலாமா?” எனக் கேட்டனர். அதற்கு யெகோவா, “அவர்களை எதிர்த்துப் போங்கள்” எனப் பதிலளித்தார்.

24 And the children of Israel advanced against the children of Benjamin on the second day.

எனவே இரண்டாவது நாள் இஸ்ரயேலர் பென்யமீனியரை எதிர்த்து நெருங்கிச் சென்றனர்.

25 And the children of Benjamin went forth to meet them from Gabaa on the second day, and destroyed of the children of Israel yet further eighteen thousand men down to the ground: all these drew sword.

இம்முறையும் பென்யமீனியர் கிபியாத்திலிருந்து அவர்களை எதிர்த்து வந்து, பதினெட்டாயிரம் இஸ்ரயேல் வீரர்களை வெட்டி வீழ்த்தினார்கள். அவர்கள் எல்லோரும் வாள் ஏந்தியவர்கள்.

26 And the children of Israel and all the people went up, and came to Baethel; and they wept, and sat there before the Lord; and they fasted on that day until evening, and offered whole burnt offerings and perfect sacrifices, before the Lord,

அப்பொழுது இஸ்ரயேல் மனிதரும் எல்லா மக்களும் பெத்தேலில் ஒன்றுகூடி யெகோவாவிடம் அழுது கொண்டேயிருந்தார்கள். அன்று சாயங்காலம்வரை அவர்கள் உபவாசித்து, தகனபலியையும், சமாதான பலியையும் யெகோவாவுக்கு முன்பாகச் செலுத்தினார்கள்.

27 for the ark of the Lord God [was] there in those days,

பின்பு இஸ்ரயேலர் யெகோவாவிடம் ஆலோசனை கேட்டார்கள். அந்நாட்களில் இறைவனின் உடன்படிக்கைப்பெட்டி அங்கே இருந்தது.

28 and Phinees the son of Eleazar the son of Aaron stood before it in those days; and the children of Israel enquired of the Lord, saying, Shall we yet again go forth to fight with our brethren the sons of Benjamin? and the Lord said, Go up, to-morrow I will give them into your hands.

ஆரோனின் பேரனும் எலெயாசாரின் மகனுமான பினெகாஸ் ஆசாரியனாக பணியாற்றி வந்தான். அப்பொழுது அவர்கள், “நாங்கள் எங்கள் சகோதரர் பென்யமீனியருடன் திரும்பவும் போருக்குப் போகலாமா, வேண்டாமா?” எனக் கேட்டார்கள். அதற்கு யெகோவா, “போங்கள்; நான் அவர்களை நாளைக்கு உங்கள் கையில் ஒப்படைப்பேன்” என உறுதியளித்தார்.

29 And the children of Israel set an ambush against Gabaa round about [it].

அப்பொழுது இஸ்ரயேலர் கிபியாவைச் சுற்றிலும் பதுங்கியிருந்து தாக்கும், வீரர்களை அனுப்பினார்கள்.

30 And the children of Israel went up against the children of Benjamin on the third day, and arrayed themselves against Gabaa as before.

மூன்றாவது நாளும் இஸ்ரயேலர் பென்யமீனியரை எதிர்த்துப் போய், முன்பு செய்ததுபோல் கிபியாவுக்கெதிராகத் தங்கள் இடங்களில் நிலைகொண்டார்கள்.

31 And the children of Benjamin went out to meet the people, and were all drawn out of the city, and began to strike and kill the people as before in the roads, whereof one goes up to Baethel, and one to Gabaa in the field, about thirty men of Israel.

பென்யமீனியர் அவர்களை எதிர்கொள்ள தங்கள் பட்டணத்தைவிட்டு வெளியே வந்தனர். அவர்கள் பட்டணத்திற்கும் அப்பாலே போய் இஸ்ரயேலரைத் தாக்கி முன்புபோலவே அவர்களைக் கொன்றார்கள். இதனால் கிட்டத்தட்ட முப்பது மனிதர்கள் வயல்வெளிகளிலும், பெத்தேலுக்கும், கிபியாவுக்கும் போகும் பாதையிலும் விழுந்தனர்.

32 And the children of Benjamin said, They fall before us as at the first: but the children of Israel said, Let us flee, and draw them out from the city into the roads; and they did so.

“நாம் முன்புபோலவே அவர்களைத் தோற்கடித்து ஓடச்செய்கிறோம்” என பென்யமீனியர் சொல்லிக்கொண்டார்கள். அப்பொழுது இஸ்ரயேலரோ, “அவர்களின் பட்டணத்தைவிட்டு வெளியே பாதைக்கு ஓடிவரப்பண்ண நாம் இன்னும் பின்வாங்கி ஓடுவோம்” என்றார்கள்.

33 And all the men rose up out of their places, and engaged in Baal Thamar; and the liers in wait of Israel advanced from their place from Maraagabe.

அவ்வாறு எல்லா இஸ்ரயேலரும் தங்களது இடங்களிலிருந்து போய், பாகால் தாமாரில் திரும்பவும் நிலைகொண்டார்கள். உடனே இஸ்ரயேலின் பதுங்கியிருந்து தாக்கும் வீரர்கள் கிபியாவின் மேற்கு பகுதியிலுள்ள இடத்திலிருந்து திடீரென வெளியேறி தாக்கினார்கள்.

34 And there came over against Gabaa ten thousand chosen men out of all Israel; and the fight [was] severe; and they knew not that evil was coming upon them.

இஸ்ரயேலின் மிகத் திறமையான பத்தாயிரம் வீரர்கள் கிபியாவின்மேல் நேரடித்தாக்குதல் செய்தனர். சண்டையோ மிகவும் கடுமையாக இருந்ததால் தங்களுக்குப் பேராபத்து நெருங்கியிருப்பதை பென்யமீனியர் அறியாதிருந்தார்கள்.

35 And the Lord struck Benjamin before the children of Israel; and the children of Israel destroyed of Benjamin in that day a hundred and twenty-five thousand men: all these drew sword.

யெகோவா பென்யமீனியரை இஸ்ரயேலருக்கு முன்பாக முறிடியத்தார். அன்று இருபத்தையாயிரத்து நூறு வாள் ஏந்தும் பென்யமீன் போர்வீரர்களை இஸ்ரயேல் வீரர்கள் வெட்டி வீழ்த்தினார்கள்.

36 And the children of Benjamin saw that they were struck; and the men of Israel gave place to Benjamin, because they trusted in the ambuscade which they had prepared against Gabaa.

அப்பொழுது பென்யமீனியர் தாங்கள் போரில் தோற்கடிக்கப்பட்டதைக் கண்டார்கள். இஸ்ரயேலரோ கிபியாவுக்கு அருகில் பதுங்கியிருந்து தாக்குபவர்களில் நம்பிக்கை வைத்ததால், பென்யமீனியருக்கு முன்பாகச் சிதறுண்டு ஓடுவதுபோல் காண்பித்தார்கள்.

37 And when they retreated, then the liers in wait rose up, and they moved toward Gabaa, and the whole ambush came forth, and they struck the city with the edge of the sword.

அந்நேரத்தில் பதுங்கியிருந்து தாக்கும் வீரர்கள் மிக விரைவாக கிபியாவிற்குள் திடீரென போய், எங்கும் பரவி பட்டணம் முழுவதையும் வாளுக்கு இரையாக்கினார்கள்.

38 And the children of Israel had a signal of battle with the liers in wait, that they should send up a signal of smoke from the city.

இஸ்ரயேலின் மனிதர்கள் பதுங்கியிருந்து தாக்குபவர்களிடம், பட்டணத்திலிருந்து பெரிய புகை மேகத்தை எழும்பப்பண்ணும்படியும்,

39 And the children of Israel saw that the liers in wait had seized Gabaa, and they stood in line of battle; and Benjamin began to strike down wounded ones among the men of Israel about thirty men; for they said, Surely they fall again before us, as in the first battle.

தாங்கள் அதைக் கண்டதும் ஓடுவதைவிட்டு திரும்பவும் அச்சண்டையில் ஈடுபடுவதாகவும் சொல்லியிருந்தார்கள். பென்யமீனியர் இஸ்ரயேல் மனிதரைத் தாக்கத் தொடங்கி, “நாம் முந்தின யுத்தத்தில் நடந்ததுபோலவே அவர்களைத் தோற்கடிக்கிறோம்” என்று சொல்லி இஸ்ரயேலில் முப்பது பேரை வெட்டிப்போட்டனர்.

40 And the signal went up increasingly over the city as a pillar of smoke; and Benjamin looked behind him, and behold the destruction of the city went up to heaven.

ஆனால் பட்டணத்திலிருந்து புகைத்திரள் மேலெழும்பியதை திரும்பிப் பார்த்த பென்யமீனியர் பட்டணம் முழுவதிலிருந்தும் புகை வானத்தை நோக்கிப் போவதைக் கண்டார்கள்.

41 And the men of Israel turned back, and the men of Benjamin hasted, because they saw that evil had come upon them.

அவ்வேளையில் இஸ்ரயேலின் மனிதர்கள் பென்யமீனியரைத் தாக்குவதற்குத் திரும்பினார்கள். ஆகவே தங்களுக்கு பேராபத்து நேரிட்டதை பென்யமீனியர் கண்டு திகிலடைந்தார்கள்.

42 And they turned to the way of the wilderness from before the children of Israel, and fled: but the battle overtook them, and they from the cities destroyed them in the midst of them.

எனவே அவர்கள் இஸ்ரயேலருக்கு முன்பாக பாலைவனத்திற்கு தப்பியோடினார்கள். ஆனால் அவர்களால் யுத்தத்திலிருந்து தப்பியோட முடியவில்லை. பட்டணத்திலிருந்து வெளியேவந்த இஸ்ரயேல் மனிதர்கள் அங்கே அவர்களை வெட்டி வீழ்த்தினார்கள்.

43 And they cut down Benjamin, and pursued him from Nua closely till they came opposite Gabaa on the east.

இஸ்ரயேலர் பென்யமீனியரைச் சுற்றிவளைத்து, அவர்களைத் துரத்தி கிழக்குப் பக்கத்திலுள்ள கிபியாவின் சுற்றுப்புறத்திலே அவர்களை இலகுவாக அழித்துப்போட்டனர்.

44 And there fell of Benjamin eighteen thousand men: all these [were] men of might.

அவ்விடத்திலே பதினெட்டாயிரம் பென்யமீனியர் விழுந்து மடிந்தனர்; எல்லோரும் போர்வீரர்கள்.

45 And the rest turned, and fled to the wilderness to the rock of Remmon; and the children of Israel picked off of them five thousand men; and the children of Israel went down after them as far as Gedan, and they struck of them two thousand men.

பென்யமீனியர் பாலைவனத்திலே ரிம்மோன் மலையை நோக்கித் தப்பியோட, வழியிலே இஸ்ரயேலர் ஐயாயிரம் பேரை வெட்டினர். மற்றவர்களை கீதோம்வரை பின்தொடர்ந்து போய், அவர்களிலும் இரண்டாயிரம் பேரை வெட்டிப்போட்டனர்.

46 And all that fell of Benjamin were twenty-five thousand men that drew sword in that day: all these were men of might.

இவ்விதமாக அந்நாளில் இருபத்தையாயிரம் பென்யமீனிய வாள் ஏந்தும் வீரர்கள் மடிந்தனர். இவர்கள் எல்லோரும் திறமைமிக்க வீரர்கள்.

47 And the rest turned, and fled to the wilderness to the rock of Remmon, even [six] hundred men; and they sojourned four months in the rock of Remmon.

ஆனால் அறுநூறு மனிதர் ரிம்மோன் காடுகளிலுள்ள மலைக்கு ஓடிப்போய் அங்கே நான்கு மாதங்கள் தங்கியிருந்தனர்.

48 And the children of Israel returned to the children of Benjamin, and struck them with the edge of the sword from the city of Methla, even to the cattle, and every thing that was found in all the cities: and they burnt with fire the cities they found.

இஸ்ரயேல் மனிதர்கள் பென்யமீன் நாட்டிற்குத் திரும்பிச்சென்று, அங்கிருந்த மிருகங்கள் உட்பட தாங்கள் கண்ட எல்லாவற்றையும் வாளால் வெட்டினர். அவர்கள் வழியிலுள்ள பட்டணங்களுக்கெல்லாம் நெருப்பு வைத்தனர்.
