Joshua 10
1 And when Adoni-bezec king of Jerusalem heard that Joshua had taken Gai, and had destroyed it, as he did to Jericho and its king, even so they did to Gai and its king, and that the inhabitants of Gabaon had gone over to Joshua and Israel;
Adoni Zedek, raja Yerusalem, mendengar bahwa Yosua sudah merebut dan menghancurkan seluruh kota Ai serta membunuh rajanya, seperti yang sudah mereka lakukan terhadap kota Yeriko dan rajanya. Dia juga mendengar bahwa penduduk kota Gibeon sudah membuat perjanjian damai dengan orang Israel dan tinggal di antara mereka.
2 then they were greatly terrified by them, for [the king] knew that Gabaon [was] a great city, as one of the chief cities, and all its men [were] mighty.
Karena itu seluruh penduduk Yerusalem sangat ketakutan, sebab Gibeon adalah kota yang sangat besar— sama besarnya dengan kota-kota yang mempunyai raja, bahkan lebih besar daripada Ai. Lagipula, orang Gibeon adalah pejuang yang tangguh.
3 So Adoni-bezec king of Jerusalem sent to Elam king of Hebron, and to Phidon king of Jerimuth, and to Jephtha king of Lachis, and to Dabin king of Odollam, saying,
Oleh sebab itu, Adoni Zedek, raja Yerusalem, mengirim utusan kepada Hoham, raja Hebron, kepada Piram, raja Yarmut, dan kepada Yafia, raja Lakis, serta kepada Debir, raja Eglon. Katanya kepada mereka,
4 Come up hither to me, and help me, and let us take Gabaon; for the Gabaonites have gone over to Joshua and to the children of Israel.
“Datanglah dan bantulah saya menghancurkan Gibeon, karena mereka sudah membuat perjanjian damai dengan Yosua dan orang Israel.”
5 And the five kings of the Jebusites went up, the king of Jerusalem, and the king of Chebron, and the king of Jerimuth, and the king of Lachis, and the king of Odollam, they and all their people; and encamped around Gabaon, and besieged it.
Maka kelima raja bangsa Amori itu mengumpulkan pasukan mereka, lalu maju mengepung dan menyerang kota Gibeon.
6 And the inhabitants of Gabaon sent to Joshua into the camp to Galgala, saying, Slack not your hands from your servants: come up quickly to us, and help us, and rescue us; for all the kings of the Amorites who dwell in the hill country are gathered together against us.
Orang-orang Gibeon pun mengirim pesan kepada Yosua di perkemahan di Gilgal, “Tuan, janganlah membiarkan hamba-hambamu ini! Segeralah datang menyelamatkan kami. Tolong! Semua raja bangsa Amori yang tinggal di pegunungan sudah bergabung untuk menyerang kami.”
7 And Joshua went up from Galgala, he and all the people of war with him, every one mighty in strength.
Maka Yosua dan seluruh pasukannya, termasuk pejuang-pejuang terbaiknya, berangkat mendaki dari Gilgal.
8 And the Lord said to Joshua, Fear them not, for I have delivered them into your hands; there shall not one of them be left before you.
TUHAN berkata kepada Yosua, “Jangan takut, karena Aku sudah menyerahkan mereka kepadamu. Tidak ada seorang pun dari mereka yang akan mengalahkanmu.”
9 And when Joshua came suddenly upon them, he [had] advanced all the night out of Galgala.
Sepanjang malam Yosua dan pasukannya mendaki dari Gilgal ke kota Gibeon, lalu mereka menyerang orang Amori dengan tiba-tiba.
10 And the Lord struck them with terror before the children of Israel; and the Lord destroyed them with a great slaughter at Gabaon; and they pursued them by the way of the going up of Oronin, and they struck them to Azeca and to Makeda.
TUHAN membuat orang Amori panik, dan pasukan Israel membantai mereka secara besar-besaran di Gibeon. Orang Israel kemudian mengejar yang masih hidup melewati Bet Horon di puncak gunung dan membunuh mereka di sepanjang jalan sampai ke Azeka dan Makeda.
11 And when they fled from the face of the children of Israel at the descent of Oronin, then the Lord cast upon them hailstones from heaven to Azeca; and they were more that died by the hailstones, than those whom the children of Israel killed with the sword in the battle.
Sementara orang Amori lari dari orang Israel, TUHAN menurunkan hujan es yang besar dari langit, sejak mereka turun dari Bet Horon sampai ke Azeka. Jumlah orang Amori yang mati karena hujan es itu lebih banyak daripada yang dibunuh oleh pasukan Israel.
12 Then Joshua spoke to the Lord, in the day in which the Lord delivered the Amorite into the power of Israel, when he destroyed them in Gabaon, and they were destroyed from before the children of Israel: and Joshua said, Let the sun stand over against Gabaon, and the moon over against the valley of Aelon.
Pada hari itu, ketika TUHAN menyerahkan orang Amori kepada orang Israel, Yosua berkata kepada TUHAN di hadapan bangsanya, “Hai matahari, berhentilah di atas Gibeon! Hai bulan, diamlah di atas lembah Ayalon!”
13 And the sun and the moon stood still, until God executed vengeance on their enemies; and the sun stood still in the midst of heaven; it did not proceed to set till the end of one day.
Maka berhentilah matahari dan bulan sampai bangsa Israel mengalahkan musuh mereka. Peristiwa ini dicatat dalam kitab Yasar. Matahari berhenti di tengah langit selama hampir satu hari penuh waktu itu.
14 And there was not such a day either before or after, so that God should listen to a man, because the Lord fought on the side of Israel.
Tidak pernah ada hari seperti hari itu, baik sebelumnya maupun sesudahnya, bahwa TUHAN mengabulkan doa seperti itu. TUHANlah yang berperang untuk Israel.
Sesudah pertempuran itu selesai, Yosua dan pasukan Israel kembali ke perkemahan mereka di Gilgal.
16 And these five kings fled, and hid themselves in a cave that is in Makeda.
Selama pertempuran, kelima raja Amori tadi melarikan diri dan bersembunyi di dalam sebuah gua di Makeda.
17 And it was told Joshua, saying, The five kings have been found hid in the cave that is in Makeda.
Ketika Yosua mendengar bahwa mereka sudah ditemukan bersembunyi di sana,
18 And Joshua said, Roll stones to the mouth of the cave, and set men to watch over them.
dia berkata, “Tutuplah gua itu dengan batu-batu besar dan tempatkan beberapa orang untuk menjaga mereka.
19 But do not you stand, but pursue after your enemies, and attack the rear of them, and do not suffer them to enter into their cities; for the Lord our God has delivered them into our hands.
Tetapi yang lain jangan berhenti di sana. Kejarlah musuh dan seranglah mereka dari belakang. Jangan biarkan mereka kembali masuk ke kota-kota berbenteng mereka, karena TUHAN Allahmu, sudah menyerahkan mereka kepada kalian.”
20 And it came to pass when Joshua and all Israel ceased destroying them utterly with a very great slaughter, that they that escaped took refuge in the strong cities.
Yosua dan pasukan Israel terus membantai orang Amori sampai hampir semuanya tewas. Hanya beberapa yang berhasil menyelamatkan diri ke dalam kota-kota berbenteng.
21 And all the people returned safe to Joshua to Makeda; and no one of the children of Israel murmured with his tongue.
Kemudian seluruh pasukan Israel kembali dengan selamat kepada Yosua di perkemahan mereka di Makeda. Sejak itu, tidak ada seorang pun yang berani melawan orang Israel.
22 And Joshua said, Open the cave, and bring out these five kings out of the cave.
Sesudah itu, Yosua memerintahkan, “Singkirkanlah batu-batu dari mulut gua dan bawalah kelima raja itu kepadaku.”
23 And they brought out the five kings out of the cave, the king of Jerusalem, and the king of Chebron, and the king of Jerimuth, and the king of Lachis, and the king of Odollam.
Maka dibawalah kepada Yosua lima raja itu dari dalam gua: raja Yerusalem, raja Hebron, raja Yarmut, raja Lakis, dan raja Eglon.
24 And when they brought them out to Joshua, then Joshua called together all Israel, and the chiefs of the army that went with him, saying to them, Come forward and set your feet on their necks; and they came and set their feet on their necks.
Ketika mereka membawa raja-raja itu kepadanya, Yosua memanggil seluruh pasukan Israel berkumpul. Dia berkata kepada panglima-panglima pasukan, “Mendekatlah dan taruhlah kaki kalian di atas leher raja-raja ini.” Lalu mereka melakukannya.
25 And Joshua said to them, Do not fear them, neither be cowardly; be courageous and strong, for thus the Lord will do to all your enemies, against whom you fight.
Kata Yosua kepada mereka, “Jangan takut dan jangan patah semangat. Kalian harus kuat dan berani, karena beginilah TUHAN akan memperlakukan semua musuh yang kalian perangi.”
26 And Joshua killed them, and hanged them on five trees; and they hung upon the trees until the evening.
Kemudian Yosua membunuh kelima raja itu dan menggantung mereka pada lima tiang. Mayat kelima raja itu dibiarkan tergantung sampai petang.
27 And it came to pass toward the setting of the sun, Joshua commanded, and they took them down from the trees, and cast them into the cave into which they [had] fled for refuge, and rolled stones to the cave, [which remain] till this day.
Ketika matahari mulai terbenam, Yosua menyuruh orang menurunkan mayat-mayat itu dari tiang dan membuangnya ke dalam gua tempat mereka tadi bersembunyi. Lalu para suruhan Yosua menutup gua itu dengan batu-batu besar. Sampai kitab ini ditulis, batu-batu itu masih ada di sana.
28 And they took Makeda on that day, and killed the inhabitants with the edge of the sword, and they utterly destroyed every living thing that was in it; and there was none left in it that was preserved and had escaped; and they did to the king of Makeda, as they did to the king of Jericho.
Pada hari itu, Yosua dan pasukannya merebut serta menghancurkan kota Makeda. Mereka membunuh semua orang di kota itu. Tidak ada seorang pun yang dibiarkan hidup. Yosua membunuh raja Makeda sama seperti dia sudah membunuh raja Yeriko.
29 And Joshua and all Israel with him departed out of Makeda to Lebna, and besieged Lebna.
Dari Makeda, Yosua bersama seluruh pasukan Israel pergi ke Libna dan menyerang kota itu.
30 And the Lord delivered it into the hands of Israel: and they took it, and its king, and killed the inhabitants with the edge of the sword, and every thing breathing in it; and there was not left in it any that survived and escaped; and they did to its king, as they did to the king of Jericho.
TUHAN juga menyerahkan kota itu beserta rajanya kepada bangsa Israel. Mereka membunuh semua orang di sana. Tidak ada satu pun yang dibiarkan hidup. Yosua membunuh raja Libna seperti dia sudah membunuh raja Yeriko.
31 And Joshua and all Israel with him departed from Lebna to Lachis, and he encamped about it, and besieged it.
Dari kota Libna, Yosua dan seluruh pasukan Israel pergi ke kota Lakis untuk mengepung dan menyerangnya.
32 And the Lord delivered Lachis into the hands of Israel; and they took it on the second day, and they put the inhabitants to death with the edge of the sword, and utterly destroyed it, as they had done to Lebna.
TUHAN juga menyerahkan kota Lakis kepada bangsa Israel. Mereka merebut kota itu pada hari kedua dan membunuh semua orang di kota itu, sama seperti mereka membunuh semua orang di kota Libna.
33 Then Elam the king of Gazer went up to help Lachis; and Joshua struck him and his people with the edge of the sword, until there was not left to him one that was preserved and escaped.
Ketika pasukan Israel menyerang kota Lakis, raja Horam dari kota Gezer datang membawa pasukannya untuk membantu kota Lakis. Tetapi Yosua dan pasukannya membunuh mereka. Tidak ada satu pun yang dibiarkan hidup.
34 And Joshua and all Israel with him departed from Lachis to Odollam, and he besieged it and took it.
Dari Lakis, Yosua dan seluruh pasukan Israel pergi ke kota Eglon. Mereka mengepung kota itu dan menyerangnya.
35 And the Lord delivered it into the hand of Israel; and he took it on that day, and killed the inhabitants with the edge of the sword, and killed every thing breathing in it, as they did to Lachis.
Mereka berhasil merebut Eglon pada hari itu juga dan membunuh semua orang di sana, sama seperti mereka sudah membunuh semua orang di kota Lakis.
36 And Joshua and all Israel with him departed to Chebron, and encamped about it.
Dari Eglon, Yosua dan seluruh pasukan Israel pergi mendaki ke kota Hebron, menyerang kota itu,
37 And he struck it with the edge of the sword, and all the living creatures that were in it; there was no one preserved: they destroyed it and all things in it, as they did to Odollam.
lalu merebutnya. Mereka membunuh rajanya dan semua orang di kota itu, serta di desa-desa sekitarnya. Tidak seorang pun mereka biarkan hidup, sama seperti yang sudah mereka lakukan terhadap kota Eglon.
38 And Joshua and all Israel returned to Dabir; and they encamped about it;
Berikutnya Yosua dan seluruh pasukan Israel turun kembali ke Debir dan menyerang kota itu.
39 and they took it, and its king, and its villages: and he struck it with the edge of the sword, and they destroyed it, and every thing breathing in it; and they did not leave in it any one that was preserved: as they did to Chebron and her king, so they did to Dabir and her king.
Mereka merebut kota itu dan membunuh rajanya dan semua orang di kota itu, serta di desa-desa sekitarnya. Tidak ada satu pun yang dibiarkan hidup. Mereka menghancurkan kota Debir dan membunuh rajanya, sama seperti yang mereka lakukan terhadap kota Libna dan Hebron.
40 And Joshua struck all the land of the hill country, and Nageb and the plain country, and Asedoth, and her kings, they did not leave of them one that was saved: and they utterly destroyed every thing that had the breath of life, as the Lord God of Israel commanded,
Demikianlah Yosua menaklukkan seluruh negeri itu— daerah pegunungan, padang belantara Negeb di sebelah selatan Kanaan, dataran rendah di sebelah barat, dan lereng-lereng gunung di sebelah timur. Mereka membunuh semua orang di daerah itu dan semua rajanya. Tidak ada seorang pun yang dibiarkan hidup, seperti yang sudah diperintahkan oleh TUHAN, Allah Israel.
41 from Cades Barne to Gaza, all Gosom, as far as Gabaon.
Yosua mengalahkan mereka dari kota Kades Barnea sampai kota Gaza, dan seluruh daerah Gosyen sampai ke kota Gibeon.
42 And Joshua struck, once for all, all their kings, and their land, because the Lord God of Israel fought on the side of Israel.
Yosua mengalahkan semua raja itu hanya dalam satu peperangan, karena TUHAN, Allah Israel, berperang bagi mereka.
Lalu Yosua dan pasukan Israel kembali ke perkemahan mereka di Gilgal.
