< Joel 1 >
1 The word of the Lord which came to Joel the son of Bathuel.

2 Hear these [words], you elders, and listen all you that inhabit the land. Have such things happen in your days, or in the days of your fathers?
Nangcae mitongnawk hae hae thaih oh, prae thung kaom kaminawk boih, tahngai oh. Nangmacae dung ah maw, to tih ai boeh loe nam panawk dung ah hae baktih hmuen hae oh vaih boeh maw?
3 Tell your children concerning them, and [let] your children [tell] their children, and their children another generation.
Hae hmuen hae na caanawk khaeah thui pae oh, na caanawk mah angmacae ih caanawk khaeah thui pae o patoeng nasoe loe, nihcae ih caanawk mah doeh angmacae ih caanawk khaeah thui pae o patoeng nasoe.
4 The leavings of the caterpillar has the locust eaten, and the leavings of the locust has the palmerworm eaten, and the leavings of the palmerworm has the cankerworm eaten.
Pakhuh mah caak ih kanghmat hmuen to pakhuh kalen mah caak; pakhuh kalen mah caak ih kanghmat hmuen to, langkawk mah caak; langkawk mah caak ih kanghmat hmuen to kalah langkawk mah caak o.
5 Awake, you drunkards, from your wine, and weep: mourn, all you that drink wine to drunkenness: for joy and gladness and removed are from your mouth.

6 For a strong and innumerable nation is come up against my land, their teeth are lion's teeth, and their back teeth those of a [lion's] whelp.
Thacak, kroek laek ai ah kaom acaeng maeto mah, ka prae to lak hanah angzoh boeh; anih ih haa loe kaipui haa baktiah oh moe, hmawsaeng kaipui baktiah ano tawnh.
7 He has ruined my vine, and utterly broken my fig-trees: he has utterly searched [my vine], and cast it down; he has peeled its branches.
Anih mah kai ih misur takha to phraek moe, kai ih thaiduetkung to pahum boih boeh; ahin to khok moe, a vah boih; tanghangnawk doeh anglung rawk ah a suek boih.
8 Lament to me more than a virgin girded with sackcloth for the husband of her youth.
Tangla cuem mah tangla naah angmah ih sava ah hamh ih kami mah anih to duek taak ving naah, buri kahni to angzaeng moe, qah baktih toengah qah oh.
9 The meat-offering and drink-offering are removed from the house of the Lord: mourn, you priests that serve at the altar of the Lord.
Cang hoi nawnto paek ih naek koi tui to Angraeng im hoiah pakha pae ving boeh; to pongah qaimanawk hoi Angraeng toksah kaminawk loe palungset o.
10 For the plains languish: let the land mourn, for the corn languishes; the wine is dried up, the oil becomes scarce;
Lawk loe pongsut boeh moe, long doeh roem boih boeh; cangnawk loe amro boeh moe, misurtui kangtha doeh atui kang ving boeh, situi doeh om ai boeh.
11 the husbandmen are consumed: mourn your property on account of the wheat and barley; for the harvest has perished from off the field.
Nangcae lawksah kaminawk, azathaih hoiah om oh, nangcae misurkung thling kaminawk, cang hoi barli cang aahhaih ahmuen to anghmat ving boeh pongah, qah oh.
12 The vine is dried up, and the fig-trees are become few; the pomegranate, and palm tree, and apple, and all trees of the field are dried up: for the sons of men have have abolished joy.
Misurtui kang boih boeh moe, thaiduetkung doeh azaem boih boeh; pomegranat thing, ungsikung baktih kaom thing, appal thing hoi lawk ih thingnawk doeh azaem boih boeh: kami capanawk khae hoi anghoehaih doeh azaem boih boeh.
13 Gird yourselves [with sackcloth], and lament, you priests: mourn, you that serve at the altar: go in, sleep in sackcloths, you that minister to God: for the meat-offering and drink-offering are withheld from the house of your God.
Qaimanawk, buri kahni angzaeng oh loe, qah oh; hmaicam hmaa ah toksah nangcae doeh, qah oh; kai ih Sithaw khaeah toksah nangcae, angzo oh loe aqum puek buri kahni angkhuk hoiah om oh; cang hoi naek koi paek ih hmuennawk to na Sithaw im ah paek o ai boeh.
14 Sanctify a fast, proclaim a [solemn] service, gather the elders [and] all the inhabitants of the land into the house of your God, and cry earnestly to the Lord,
Kaciim buhzahhaih to sah oh loe, kaciim amkhuenghaih to sah oh; mitongnawk hoi prae thung kaom kaminawk Angraeng na Sithaw ih imthung ah pakhuengh boih ah loe, Angraeng khaeah qah oh.
15 Alas, Alas, Alas for the day! for the day of the Lord is near, and it will come as trouble upon trouble.
Ala Angraeng ih ni, to ani loe anghnai boeh; to ni loe Thacak Sithaw khae hoi angzo amrohaih baktiah angzo tih.
16 [Your] meat has been destroyed before your eyes, joy and gladness from out of the house of your God.
Aicae hma roe ah caaknaek to kha boeh moe, Sithaw im ah anghoehaih hoi oephaih to om ai boeh na ai maw?
17 The heifers have started at their mangers, the treasures are abolished, the wine presses are broken down; for the corn is withered.
Cangtii doeh long thungah aap sut boeh, hmuenmae suekhaih ahmuen loe angqai krang boeh, tapupnawk doeh hmawn boih boeh; cang doeh azaem boih boeh.
18 What shall we store up for ourselves? the herds of cattle have mourned, because they had no pasture; and the flocks of sheep have been utterly destroyed.
Moinawk loe kawkruk maw patangkhang o! Caak han phroh kahoih om ai boeh pongah, maitawnawk doeh thazok o sut moe, tuunawk doeh patangkhang o boeh.
19 To you, O Lord, will I cry: for fire has devoured the fair places of the wilderness, and a flame has burnt up all the trees of the field.
Aw Angraeng, taw ih saphoinawk loe hmai mah kangh boih boeh, taw ih thingnawk doeh hmaipalai mah kang boih boeh pongah, nang ni kang palawk boeh.
20 And the cattle of the field have looked up to you: for the fountains of waters have been dried up, and fire has devoured the fair places of the wilderness.
Vapui tuinawk loe kang ving boeh moe, hmai mah taw ih saphoinawk to kang boih boeh pongah, taw ih moinawk mah doeh nang ni ang palawk o boeh.
