Job 38
1 And after Elius had ceased from speaking, the Lord spoke to Job through the whirlwind and clouds, [saying],
Potem je Gospod Jobu odgovoril iz vrtinčastega vetra in rekel:
2 Who is this that hides counsel from me, and confines words in [his] heart, and thinks to conceal [them] from me?
»Kdo je ta, ki zatemnjuje nasvet z besedami brez spoznanja?
3 Gird your loins like a man; and I will ask you, and do you answer me.
Opaši sedaj svoja ledja kakor mož, kajti od tebe bom zahteval in ti mi odgovori.
4 Where was you when I founded the earth? tell me now, if you have knowledge,
Kje si bil, ko sem položil temelje zemlji? Razglasi, če imaš razumevanje.
5 who set the measures of it, if you know? or who stretched a line upon it?
Kdo je položil njene mere, če veš? Ali kdo je na njej razprostrl [merilno] vrvico.
6 On what are its rings fastened? and who is he that laid the corner-stone upon it?
Na čem so njeni temelji pritrjeni? Ali kdo je položil njen vogalni kamen,
7 When the stars were made, all my angels praised me with a loud voice.
ko so jutranje zvezde skupaj prepevale in so vsi Božji sinovi vriskali od radosti.
8 And I shut up the sea with gates, when it rushed out, coming forth out its mother's womb.
Ali kdo je morje zaprl z vrati, ko je to izbruhnilo, kakor če bi to izšlo iz maternice?
9 And I made a cloud its clothing, and swathed it in mist.
Ko sem oblak naredil [za] njegovo oblačilo in gosto temo kot plenice zanj
10 And I set bounds to it, surrounding it with bars and gates.
in sem zanj zdrobil svoj določen kraj ter postavil zapahe in vrata
11 And I said to it, Hitherto shall you come, but you shall not go beyond, but your waves shall be confined within you.
in rekel: ›Do sem boš šel in nič dlje. Tukaj bodo tvoji ponosni valovi ustavljeni.‹
12 Or did I order the morning light in your time; and [did] the morning star [then first] see his appointed place;
Ali si zapovedal jutru, odkar so tvoji dnevi in svitanju storil, da pozna svoje mesto,
13 to lay hold of the extremities of the earth, to cast out the ungodly out of it?
da bi lahko zgrabil konce zemlje, da bi bili zlobni lahko streseni iz nje?
14 Or did you take clay of the ground, and form a living creature, and set it with the power of speech upon the earth?
Ta je spremenjena kakor ilo pod pečatom, in oni stojijo kakor oblačilo.
15 And have you removed light from the ungodly, and crushed the arm of the proud?
Pred zlobnimi je njihova svetloba zadržana in visok laket bo zlomljen.
16 Or have you gone to the source of the sea, and walked in the tracks of the deep?
Si vstopil v morske izvire? Ali si hodil v iskanju globin?
17 And do the gates of death open to you for fear; and did the porters of hell quake when they saw you? (questioned)
So ti bila odprta velika vrata smrti? Ali si videl vrata smrtne sence?
18 And have you been instructed in the breadth of the [whole earth] under heaven? tell me now, what is the extent of it?
Si zaznal širino zemlje? Razglasi, če veš vse to.
19 And in what kind of a land does the light dwell? and of what kind is the place of darkness?
Kje je pot, kjer prebiva svetloba? In glede teme, kje je njen kraj,
20 If you could bring me to their [utmost] boundaries, and if also you know their paths;
da bi jo odvedel do njene meje in da bi spoznal steze k njeni hiši?
21 I know then that you were born at that time, and the number of your years is great.
Mar veš to, ker si bil takrat rojen? Ali ker je število tvojih dni veliko?
22 But have you gone to the treasures of snow? and have you seen the treasures of hail?
Si vstopil v zakladnice snega? Si mar videl zakladnice toče,
23 And is there a store [of them], for you against the time of [your] enemies, for the day of wars and battle?
ki sem jih prihranil za čas stiske, za dan bitke in vojne?
24 And whence proceeds the frost? or [whence] is the south wind dispersed over the [whole world] under heaven?
Po kateri poti je svetloba razdeljena, ki vzhodnik razkropi po zemlji?
25 And who prepared a course for the violent rain, and a way for the thunders;
Kdo je razdelil vodni tok za poplavljanje voda ali pot za bliskanje groma,
26 to rain upon the land where [there is] no man, the wilderness, where there is not a man in it; so as to feed the untrodden and uninhabited [land],
da mu povzroči, da dežuje na zemljo, kjer ni nobenega moža, na divjino, kjer ni nobenega človeka,
27 and cause it to send forth a crop of green herbs?
da zadovolji zapuščena in opustošena tla in povzroči, da brsti nežnega zelišča vzbrstijo?
28 Who is the rain's father? and who has generated the drops of dew?
Ima dež očeta? Ali kdo je zaplodil rosne kaplje?
29 And out of whose womb comes the ice? and who has produced the frost in the sky,
Iz čigave maternice je prišel led? In slana z neba, kdo jo je zaplodil?
30 which descends like flowing water? who has terrified the face of the ungodly?
Vode so skrite kakor s kamnom in obličje globine je zamrznjeno.
31 And do you understand the band of Pleias, and have you opened the barrier of Orion?
Lahko združiš prijetne vplive Gostosevcev ali razvežeš čete Oriona?
32 Or will you reveal Mazuroth in his season, and the evening star with his rays? Will you guide them?
Lahko privedeš ozvezdje v svojem obdobju? Lahko usmerjaš Arkturja z njegovimi sinovi?
33 And know you the changes of heaven, or the events which take place together under heaven?
Ali poznaš odredbe neba? Lahko vzpostaviš njihovo gospostvo na zemlji?
34 And will you call a cloud with your voice, and will it obey you with a violent shower of much rain?
Mar lahko dvigneš svoj glas k oblakom, da te lahko pokrije obilje voda?
35 And will you send lightnings, and they shall go? and shall they say to you, What is [your pleasure]?
Mar lahko pošlješ bliske, da lahko gredo in ti rečejo: »Tukaj smo?«
36 And who has given to women skill in weaving, or knowledge of embroidery?
Kdo je v notranje dele položil modrost? Ali kdo je dal srcu razumevanje?
37 And who is he that numbers the clouds in wisdom, and has bowed the heaven [down] to the earth?
Kdo lahko v modrosti prešteje oblake? Ali kdo lahko zadržuje mehove neba,
38 For it is spread out as dusty earth, and I have cemented it as one hewn stone to another.
ko se prah strjuje in se grude trdno sprimejo skupaj?
39 And will you hunt a prey for the lions? and satisfy the desires of the serpents?
Mar boš lovil plen za leva? Ali tešil apetit mladim levom,
40 For they fear in their lairs, and lying in wait couch in the woods.
ko ležijo v svojih brlogih in ostajajo v skrivališču, da prežijo v zasedi?
41 And who has prepared food for the raven? for its young ones wander and cry to the Lord, in search of food.
Kdo krokarju pripravlja njegovo hrano? Ko njegovi mladiči kličejo k Bogu, se potikajo zaradi pomanjkanja hrane.
