Job 14
1 For a mortal born of a woman [is] short lived, and full of wrath.
“Con người thật yếu đuối mong manh! Đời sống thật ngắn ngủi, nhưng đầy phiền muộn!
2 Or he falls like a flower that has bloomed; and he departs like a shadow, and can’t continue.
Chúng con như hoa sớm nở tối tàn. Như bóng câu vụt qua, chúng con vội vàng khuất bóng.
3 Hast you not taken account even of him, and caused him to enter into judgment before you?
Chúa cần gì phải theo dõi gắt gao, và rồi đưa con ra xét xử?
4 For who shall be pure from uncleanness? not even one;
Ai có thể đem điều trong sạch ra từ người ô uế? Không một người nào!
5 if even his life should be [but] one day upon the earth: and his months are numbered by him: you have appointed [him] for a time, and he shall by no means exceed [it].
Chúa đã an bài số ngày của đời sống chúng con. Chúa biết rõ chúng con sống bao nhiêu tháng, và giới hạn không thể vượt qua.
6 Depart from him, that he may be quiet, and take pleasure in his life, [though] as a hireling.
Xin Chúa ngoảnh mặt để chúng con yên thân! Chúng con như người làm thuê, được nghỉ ngơi sau ngày làm việc.
7 For there is hope for a tree, even if it should be cut down, [that] it shall blossom again, and its branch shall not fail.
Ngay cả cây cũng còn hy vọng! Nếu bị đốn xuống, nó vẫn mọc lại và nứt ra nhiều cành lá xanh tươi.
8 For though its root should grow old in the earth, and its stem die in the rock;
Dù rễ nó già cỗi trong đất và gốc thối rữa mụt nát,
9 it will blossom from the scent of water, and will produce a crop, as one newly planted.
vừa có hơi nước, nó sẽ nẩy chồi và cây liền nứt đọt như hạt giống mới.
10 But a man that has died is utterly gone; and when a mortal has fallen, he is no more.
Nhưng khi người chết, sức họ liền tan biến. Tắt hơi rồi người đến nơi đâu?
11 For the sea wastes in [length of] time, and a river fails and is dried up.
Như nước bốc hơi khỏi hồ, như sông cạn khô nứt nẻ,
12 And man that has lain down [in death] shall certainly not rise again till the heaven be dissolved, and they shall not awake from their sleep.
con người nằm xuống và không trổi dậy nữa. Cho dù bầu trời cao tan biến, họ cũng sẽ không dậy, không gì đánh thức họ giữa giấc ngủ triền miên.
13 For oh that you had kept me in the grave, and had hidden me until your wrath should cease, and you should set me a time in which you would remember me! (Sheol h7585)
Ước gì Chúa đem con giấu nơi âm phủ, và quên hẳn con cho đến khi cơn giận Ngài nguôi. Nhưng đến kỳ định, xin Ngài nhớ lại con! (Sheol h7585)
14 For if a man should die, shall he live [again], having accomplished the days of his life? I will wait till I exist again?
Người chết đi có thể sống lại chăng? Trọn những ngày lao khổ của đời con, con sẽ đợi cho đến kỳ giải thoát.
15 Then shall you call, and I will listen to you: but do not you reject the work of your hands.
Bấy giờ Chúa gọi, con sẽ lên tiếng đáp lời, Chúa nhớ mong con, tạo vật của tay Chúa.
16 But you have numbered my devices: and not one of my sins shall escape you?
Bấy giờ Chúa sẽ canh giữ bước chân con, thay vì canh chừng tội lỗi con.
17 An you have sealed up my transgressions in a bag, and marked if I have been guilty of any transgression unawares.
Tội lỗi con phạm sẽ được niêm phong trong túi, và Ngài sẽ che đậy gian ác của con.
18 And verily a mountain falling will utterly be destroyed, and a rock shall be worn out of its place.
Nhưng, như núi lở tan tành từng mảnh, như đá lăn ra muôn phía,
19 The waters wear the stones, and waters falling headlong [overflow] a heap of the earth: and you destroy the hope of man.
như nước chảy đá mòn, như thác lũ cuốn trôi bùn đất, vì Chúa phá tan hy vọng của con người.
20 You drive him to an end, and he is gone: you set your face against him, and send him away;
Chúa đè bẹp con người, rồi người phải qua đi. Chúa thay sắc diện người và đuổi người đi khuất.
21 and though his children be multiplied, he knows [it] not; and if they be few, he is not aware.
Họ không bao giờ biết con cháu họ sẽ được tôn trọng hay thất bại ê chề, Nào ai biết được.
22 But his flesh is in pain, and his soul mourns.
Họ chỉ biết thân mình đau đớn; đời sống họ đầy dẫy khổ đau.”
