Esias 1
1 The vision which Esaias the son of Amos saw, which he saw against Juda, and against Jerusalem, in the reign of Ozias, and Joatham, and Achaz, and Ezekias, who reigned over Judea.
Vision d'Isaïe, fils d'Amos, qu'il a vue touchant Juda et Jérusalem, aux jours d'Osias, de Joatham, d'Achaz et d'Ezéchias, rois de Juda.
2 Hear, O heaven, and listen, O earth: for the Lord has spoken, [saying], I have begotten and reared up children, but they have rebelled against me.
Cieux, écoutez, et toi, terre, prête l'oreille, car Yahweh parle: J'ai nourri des enfants et je les ai élevés, et eux se sont révoltés contre moi.
3 The ox knows his owner, and the ass his master's crib: but Israel does not know me, and the people has not regarded me.
Le bœuf connaît son possesseur et l'âne la crèche de son maître; mais Israël n'a point de connaissance, mon peuple n'a point d'intelligence.
4 Ah sinful nation, a people full of sins, an evil seed, lawless children: you have forsaken the Lord, and provoked the Holy One of Israel.
Ah! nation pécheresse, peuple chargé d'iniquité, race de méchants, fils criminels. Ils ont abandonné Yahweh, ils ont outragé le Saint d'Israël, ils se sont retirés en arrière.
5 Why should you be struck [any] more, transgressing more and more? the whole head is pained, and the whole heart sad.
Où vous frapper encore, si vous continuez vos révoltes? Toute la tête est malade, et tout le cœur est languissant.
6 From the feet to the head, there is no soundness in them; neither wound, nor bruise, nor festering ulcer [are healed]: it is not possible to apply a plaister, nor oil, nor bandages.
De la plante des pieds au sommet de la tête, il n'y a en lui rien de sain: ce n'est que blessures, meurtrissures, plaies vives, qui n'ont pas été pansées, ni bandées, ni adoucies avec de l'huile.
7 Your land is desolate, your cities burned with fire: your land, strangers devour it in your presence, and it is made desolate, overthrown by strange nations.
Votre pays est un désert; vos villes sont consumées par le feu; votre sol, des étrangers le dévorent sous vos yeux; la dévastation est comme le ravage fait par des étrangers.
8 The daughter of Sion shall be deserted as a tent in a vineyard, and as a storehouse of fruits in a garden of cucumbers, as a besieged city.
Et la fille de Sion est restée comme une cabane dans une vigne, comme une hutte dans un champ de concombres, comme une tour de garde.
9 And if the Lord of Sabaoth had not left us a seed, we should have been as Sodom, and we should have been made like Gomorrha.
Si Yahweh des armées ne nous eût pas laissé un faible reste, nous serions comme Sodome, nous ressemblerions à Gomorrhe.
10 Hear the word of the Lord, you rulers of Sodoma; attend to the law of God, you people of Gomorrha.
Ecoutez la parole de Yahweh, juges de Sodome; prêtez l'oreille à la loi de notre Dieu, peuple de Gomorrhe.
11 Of what [value] to me is the abundance of your sacrifices? says the Lord: I am full of whole burnt offerings of rams; and I delight not in the fat of lambs, and the blood of bulls and goats:
Que m'importe la multitude de vos sacrifices? dit Yahweh. Je suis rassasié des holocaustes de béliers, et de la graisse des veaux; je ne prends point plaisir au sang des taureaux, des brebis et des boucs.
12 neither shall you come [with these] to appear before me; for who has required these things at your hands? You shall no more tread my court.
Quand vous venez vous présenter devant ma face, qui vous a demandé de fouler mes parvis?
13 Though you bring fine flour, [it is] vain; incense is an abomination to me; I can’t bear your new moons, and your sabbaths, and the great day;
Ne continuez pas de m'apporter de vaines oblations; l'encens m'est en abomination; quant aux nouvelles lunes, aux sabbats et aux convocations, je ne puis voir ensemble le crime et l'assemblée solennelle.
14 [your] fasting, and rest from work, your new moons also, and your feasts my soul hates: you have become loathsome to me; I will no more pardon your sins.
Mon âme hait vos nouvelles lunes et vos fêtes; elles me sont à charge, je suis las de les supporter.
15 When you stretch forth your hands, I will turn away mine eyes from you: and though you make many supplications, I will not listen to you; for your hands are full of blood.
Quand vous étendez vos mains, je voile mes yeux devant vous; quand vous multipliez les prières, je n'écoute pas: Vos mains sont pleines de sang.
16 Wash you, be clean; remove your iniquities from your souls before mine eyes; cease from your iniquities;
Lavez-vous, purifiez-vous; ôtez la malice de vos actions de devant mes yeux; cessez de mal faire,
17 learn to do well; diligently seek judgment, deliver him that is suffering wrong, plead for the orphan, and obtain justice for the widow.
apprenez à bien faire; recherchez la justice, redressez l'oppresseur, faites droit à l'orphelin, défendez la veuve.
18 And come, let us reason together, says the Lord: and though your sins be as purple, I will make them white as snow; and though they be as scarlet, I will make [them] white as wool.
Venez et discutons ensemble: Si vos péchés sont comme l'écarlate, ils deviendront blancs comme la neige; s'ils sont rouges comme la pourpre, ils deviendront comme la laine.
19 And if you be willing, and listen to me, you shall eat the good of the land:
Si vous obéissez de bon cœur, vous mangerez les biens de votre pays;
20 but if you be not willing, nor listen to me, a sword shall devour you: for the mouth of the Lord has spoken this.
mais si vous résistez, et si vous êtes rebelles, vous serez mangés par l'épée; car la bouche de Yahweh a parlé.
21 How has the faithful city Sion, [once] full of judgment, become a harlot! wherein righteousness lodged, but now murderers.
Comment est-elle devenue une prostituée, la cité fidèle, elle, pleine d'équité, dans laquelle la justice habitait, et maintenant... des meurtriers!
22 Your silver is worthless, your wine merchants mix the wine with water.
Ton argent s'est changé en scories, ton vin a été coupé d'eau.
23 Your princes are rebellious, companions of thieves, loving bribes, seeking after rewards; not pleading for orphans, and not heeding the cause of widows.
Tes princes sont des rebelles, et des compagnons de voleurs; tous aiment les présents, et courent après les récompenses; ils ne font pas droit à l'orphelin, et la cause de la veuve ne vient pas devant eux.
24 Therefore thus says the Lord, the Lord of hosts, Woe to the mighty [men] of Israel; for my wrath shall not cease against mine adversaries, and I will execute judgment on mine enemies.
C'est pourquoi — oracle du Seigneur, Yahweh des armées, le Fort d'Israël: Ah! je tirerai satisfaction de mes adversaires, et je me vengerai de mes ennemis.
25 And I will bring my hand upon you, and purge you completely, and I will destroy the rebellious, and will take away from you all transgressors.
J'étendrai ma main sur toi, et je fondrai tes scories comme avec de la potasse, et j'ôterai toutes tes parcelles de plomb.
26 And I will establish your judges as before, and your counselors as at the beginning: and afterward you shall be called the city of righteousness, the faithful mother-city of Sion.
Je te rendrai des juges comme ceux d'autrefois, et des conseillers comme aux premiers temps. Après cela on t'appellera la ville de justice, la cité fidèle.
27 For her captives shall be saved with judgment, and with mercy.
Sion sera rachetée par la droiture, et ses convertis, par la justice.
28 And the transgressors and the sinners shall be crushed together, and they that forsake the Lord shall be utterly consumed.
Mais les rebelles et les pécheurs seront brisés ensemble, et ceux qui abandonnent Yahweh périront.
29 For they shall be ashamed of their idols, which they delighted in, and they are made ashamed of the gardens which they coveted.
Car ils auront honte des térébinthes que vous avez aimés, et vous rougirez des jardins dont vous faites vos délices.
30 For they shall be as a turpentine tree that has cast its leaves, and as a garden that has no water.
Car vous serez comme un térébinthe au feuillage flétri, et comme un jardin sans eau.
31 And their strength shall be as a thread of tow, and their works as sparks, and the transgressors and the sinners shall be burnt up together, and there shall be none to quench [them].
Et l'homme fort sera l'étoupe, et ses œuvres, l'étincelle; ils brûleront tous deux ensemble, et personne n'éteindra.
