Esias 23
1 THE WORD CONCERNING TYRE. Howl, you ships of Carthage; for she has perished, and [men] no longer arrive from the land of the Citians: she is led captive.
L’oracle sur Tyr. Hurlez, navires de Tarsis, car elle est dévastée, de sorte qu’il n’y a pas de maisons, personne qui entre. Du pays de Kittim cela leur est révélé.
2 To whom are the dwellers in the island become like, the merchants of Phoenice, passing over the sea
Tenez-vous en silence, habitants de l’île! Les marchands de Sidon qui passent par la mer t’ont remplie!
3 in great waters, a generation of merchants? as when the harvest is gathered in, [so are] these traders with the nations.
Et sur de grandes eaux la semence du Shikhor, la moisson du Nil, était son revenu; et elle était le marché des nations.
4 Be ashamed, O Sidon: the sea has said, yes, the strength of the sea has said, I have not travailed, nor brought forth, nor have I brought up young men, nor reared virgins.
Aie honte, Sidon, car la mer a parlé, la force de la mer, disant: Je n’ai pas été en travail d’enfant, je n’ai pas enfanté, et je n’ai pas nourri de jeunes hommes, ni élevé de vierges. –
5 Moreover when it shall be heard in Egypt, sorrow shall seize them for Tyre.
Quand la rumeur est arrivée en Égypte, ils ont été dans l’angoisse à [l’ouïe des] nouvelles de Tyr.
6 Depart you to Carthage; howl, you that dwell in this island.
Traversez vers Tarsis, hurlez, vous, les habitants de l’île!
7 Was not this your pride from the beginning, before she was given up?
Est-ce là votre [ville] joyeuse, qui avait son origine dès les jours d’autrefois? Ses pieds la porteront pour demeurer au loin en étrangère.
8 Who has devised this counsel against Tyre? Is she inferior? or has she no strength? her merchants were the glorious princes of the earth.
Qui a pris ce conseil à l’égard de Tyr, distributrice de couronnes, dont les négociants étaient des princes, dont les marchands étaient les nobles de la terre?
9 The Lord of hosts has purposed to bring down all the pride of the glorious ones, and to disgrace every glorious thing on the earth.
L’Éternel des armées a pris ce conseil, pour profaner l’orgueil de toute gloire, pour réduire à néant tous les nobles de la terre.
10 Till your land; for ships no more come out of Carthage.
Répands-toi sur ton pays comme le Nil, fille de Tarsis; il n’y a plus rien qui retienne!
11 And your hand prevails no more by sea, which troubled kings: the Lord of hosts has given a command concerning Chanaan, to destroy the strength thereof.
Il a étendu sa main sur la mer; il a fait trembler les royaumes. L’Éternel a commandé contre Canaan, d’en détruire les forteresses,
12 And [men] shall say, You shall no longer at all continue to insult and injure the daughter of Sidon: and if you depart to the Citians, neither there shall you have rest.
et il a dit: Tu ne t’égaieras plus, vierge opprimée, fille de Sidon! Lève-toi, passe à Kittim; là encore il n’y aura pas de repos pour toi.
13 And [if you depart] to the land of the Chaldeans, this also is laid waste by the Assyrians, for her wall is fallen.
Vois le pays des Chaldéens: ce peuple n’existait pas; Assur l’a fondé pour les habitants des déserts: ils ont élevé leurs tours, ils ont renversé ses palais; il en a fait des ruines.
14 Howl, you ships of Carthage: for your strong hold is destroyed.
Hurlez, navires de Tarsis, car votre forteresse est détruite.
15 And it shall come to pass in that day, [that] Tyre shall be left seventy years, as the time of a king, as the time of a man: and it shall come to pass after seventy years, [that] Tyre shall be as the song of a harlot.
Et il arrivera, en ce jour-là, que Tyr sera oubliée 70 ans, selon les jours d’un roi. Au bout de 70 ans, ce sera pour Tyr comme la chanson d’une prostituée.
16 Take a harp, go about, O city, you harlot that have been forgotten; play well on the harp, sing many [songs], that you may be remembered.
Prends la harpe, fais le tour de la ville, prostituée oubliée! Touche habilement les cordes, multiplie tes chansons, afin qu’on se souvienne de toi.
17 And it shall come to pass after the seventy years, [that] God will visit Tyre, and she shall be again restored to her primitive state, and she shall be a mart for all the kingdoms of the world on the face of the earth.
Et il arrivera qu’au bout de 70 ans, l’Éternel visitera Tyr; et elle reviendra à ses présents et se prostituera avec tous les royaumes de la terre, sur la face du sol.
18 And her trade and her gain shall be holiness to the Lord: it shall not be gathered for them, but for those that dwell before the Lord, [even] all her trade, to eat and drink and be filled, and for a covenant [and] a memorial before the Lord.
Et ses marchandises et les présents qu’on lui fera seront saints, [consacrés] à l’Éternel; ils ne seront pas accumulés et ils ne seront pas amassés; car sa marchandise sera pour ceux qui demeurent devant l’Éternel, afin qu’ils mangent et soient rassasiés, et afin qu’ils aient des vêtements magnifiques.
