Esias 20

1 In the year when Tanathan came to Azotus, when he was sent by Arna king of the Assyrians, and warred against Azotus, and took it;

L’anno che Tartan, mandato da Sargon, re d’Assiria, mosse contro Asdod, la cinse d’assedio e la prese,

2 then the Lord spoke to Esaias the son of Amos, saying, Go and take the sackcloth off your loins, and loose your sandals from off your feet, and do thus, going naked and barefoot.

verso quel tempo, l’Eterno parlò per mezzo d’Isaia, figliuolo di Amots, e gli disse: “Va’, sciogliti il sacco di su i fianchi, e togliti i calzari dai piedi”. Questi fece così, e camminò seminudo e scalzo.

3 And the Lord said, As my servant Esaias has walked naked and barefoot three years, there shall be three years for signs and wonders to the Egyptians and Ethiopians;

E l’Eterno disse: “Come il mio servo Isaia va seminudo e scalzo, segno e presagio, durante tre anni, contro l’Egitto e contro l’Etiopia,

4 for thus shall the king of the Assyrians lead the captivity of Egypt and the Ethiopians, young men and old, naked and barefoot, having the shame of Egypt exposed.

così il re d’Assiria menerà via i prigionieri dall’Egitto e i deportati dall’Etiopia, giovani e vecchi, seminudi e scalzi, con la natiche scoperte, a vergogna dell’Egitto.

5 And the Egyptians being defeated shall be ashamed of the Ethiopians, in whom they had trusted; for they were their glory.

E quelli saranno costernati e confusi, a motivo dell’Etiopia in cui avevan riposta la loro speranza, e a motivo dell’Egitto in cui si gloriavano.

6 And they that dwell in this island shall say in that day, Behold, we trusted to flee to them for help, who could not save themselves from the king of the Assyrians: and how shall we be saved?

E gli abitanti di questa costa diranno in quel giorno: “Ecco a che è ridotto il paese in cui speravamo, al quale avevamo ricorso in cerca d’aiuto, per essere liberati dal re d’Assiria! Come scamperemo noi?”
