Aggaeus 2
1 In the seventh month, on the twenty-first [day] of the month, the Lord spoke by Aggaeus the prophet, saying,
Au septième mois, au vingt-unième jour du mois, la parole du Seigneur fut adressée par l’entremise d’Aggée, le prophète, disant:
2 Speak now to Zorobabel the son of Salathiel, of the tribe of Juda, and to Jesus the son of Josedec, the high priest, and to all the remnant of the people, saying,
Parle à Zorobabel, fils de Salathiel, chef de Juda, et à Jésus, fils de Josédec, le grand-prêtre, et à ceux qui sont restés du peuple, en disant:
3 Who [is there] of you that saw this house in her former glory? and how do you now look upon it, as it were nothing before your eyes?
Qui est celui parmi vous qui, étant resté, a vu cette maison dans sa première gloire? et comment la voyez-vous maintenant? Est-ce qu’elle n’est pas à vos yeux comme si elle n’existait pas?
4 Yet now be strong, O Zorobabel, says the Lord; and strengthen yourself, O Jesus the high priest, the son of Josedec; and let all the people of the land strengthen themselves, says the Lord, and work, for I am with you, says the Lord Almighty;
Mais maintenant, Zorobabel, prends courage, dit le Seigneur; prends courage, Jésus, fils de Josédec, grand-prêtre; prends courage aussi, peuple entier de la terre, dit le Seigneur des armées; et observez (parce que, moi, je suis avec vous, dit le Seigneur des armées)
5 and my Spirit remains in the midst of you; be of good courage.
L’alliance que j’ai faite avec vous, lorsque vous êtes sortis de la terre d’Egypte: et mon esprit sera au milieu de vous; ne craignez point.
6 For thus says the Lord Almighty; Yet once I will shake the heaven, and the earth, and the sea, and the dry [land];
Parce que voici ce que dit le Seigneur des armées: Encore un peu de temps, et j’ébranlerai le ciel, et la terre, et la mer, et la partie aride.
7 and I will shake all nations, and the choice [portions] of all the nations shall come: and I will fill this house with glory, says the Lord Almighty.
Et j’ébranlerai toutes les nations: ET VIENDRÀ LE DÉSIRÉ de toutes les nations; et je remplirai cette maison de gloire, dit le Seigneur des armées.
8 Mine is the silver, and mine the gold, says the Lord Almighty.
À moi est l’argent, et à moi est l’or, dit le Seigneur des armées.
9 For the glory of this house shall be great, the latter more than the former, says the Lord Almighty: and in this place will I give peace, says the Lord Almighty, even peace of soul for a possession to every one that builds, to raise up this temple.
La gloire de cette dernière maison sera plus grande que celle de la première, dit le Seigneur des armées; et en ce lieu je donnerai la paix, dit le Seigneur des armées.
10 On the four and twentieth [day] of the ninth month, in the second year of Darius, the word of the Lord came to Aggaeus the prophet, saying,
Au vingt-quatrième jour du neuvième mois, en la seconde année du roi Darius, la parole du Seigneur fut adressée à Aggée, le prophète, disant:
11 Thus says the Lord Almighty; Inquire now of the priest [concerning] the law, saying,
Voici ce que dit le Seigneur des armées: Interroge les prêtres sur la loi, en disant:
12 If a man should take holy flesh in the skirt of his garment, and the skirt of his garment should touch bread, or pottage, or wine, or oil, or any meat, shall it be holy? And the priests answered and said, No.
Si un homme porte de la chair sanctifiée dans un coin de son vêtement, et que ce coin de son vêtement touche du pain ou de la viande, ou du vin, ou de l’huile, ou tout autre aliment, ce qu’il aura touché sera-t-il sanctifié? Or, répondant, les prêtres dirent: Non.
13 And Aggaeus said, If a defiled person who is unclean by reason of a dead body, touch any of these, shall it be defiled? And the priests answered and said, It shall be defiled.
Aggée dit: Si un homme souillé par l’attouchement d’un cadavre touche quelqu’une de toutes ces choses, sera-t-elle souillée? Et les prêtres répondirent et dirent: Elle sera souillée.
14 And Aggaeus answered and said, So is this people, and so is this nation before me, says the Lord; and so are all the works of their hands: and whoever shall approach them, shall be defiled [because of their early burdens: they shall be pained because of their toils; and you have hated him that reproved in the gates].
Et Aggée reprit et dit: Ainsi est ce peuple, ainsi est cette nation devant ma face, dit le Seigneur, et ainsi est-il de toute œuvre de leurs mains, et tout ce qu’ils m’ont offert en ce lieu sera souillé.
15 And now consider, I pray you, from this day and beforetime, before they laid a stone on a stone in the temple of the Lord, what manner of men you were.
Et maintenant appliquez vos cœurs à ce qui s’est passé depuis ce jour et au-delà, avant qu’une pierre eût été posée sur une pierre au temple du Seigneur.
16 When you cast into the corn-bin twenty measures of barley, and there were [only] ten measures of barley: and you went to the vat to draw out fifty measures, and there were [but] twenty.
Lorsque vous vous approchiez d’un tas de vingt boisseaux de grains, ils se réduisaient à dix; et lorsque vous entriez au pressoir pour faire cinquante cruches de vin, il s’en faisait vingt.
17 I struck you with barrenness, and with blasting, and all the works of your hands with hail; yet you returned not to me, says the Lord.
Je vous ai frappés d’un vent brûlant; et j’ai frappé de la nielle et de la grêle tous les travaux de vos mains; et il n’y a eu personne parmi vous qui revînt à moi, dit le Seigneur.
18 Set your hearts now [to think] from this day and upward, from the four and twentieth [day] of the ninth month, even from the day when the foundation of the temple of the Lord was laid;
Appliquez vos cœurs à ce qui se fera depuis ce jour et à l’avenir, depuis le vingt-quatrième jour du neuvième mois; depuis le jour que les fondements du temple du Seigneur ont été jetés, appliquez votre cœur.
19 consider in your hearts, whether [this] shall be known on the corn-floor, and whether yet the vine, and the fig tree, and the pomegranate, and the olive-trees that bear no fruit [are with you]: from this day will I bless [you].
Est-ce que les grains n’ont déjà pas germé? et la vigne, et le figuier et le grenadier et l’olivier n’ont-ils pas fleuri? Depuis ce jour je bénirai.
20 And the word of the Lord came the second time to Aggaeus the prophet, on the four and twentieth [day] of the month, saying,
Et la parole du Seigneur fut adressée une seconde fois à Aggée le vingt-quatrième jour du mois, disant:
21 Speak to Zorobabel the son of Salathiel, of the tribe of Juda, saying, I shake the heaven, and the earth, and the sea, and the dry [land];
Parle à Zorobabel, chef de Juda, en disant: Moi j’ébranlerai à la fois le ciel et la terre.
22 and I will overthrow the thrones of kings, and I will destroy the power of the kings of the nations; and I will overthrow chariots and riders; and the horses and their riders shall come down, every one by the sword striving against his brother.
Et je renverserai le trône des royaumes, et je briserai la force du règne des nations; et je renverserai le quadrige, et celui qui le monte; les chevaux tomberont ainsi que leurs cavaliers; un homme tombera sous le glaive -de son frère.
23 In that day, says the Lord Almighty, I will take you, O Zorobabel, the son of Salathiel, my servant, says the Lord, and will make you as a seal: for I have chosen you, says the Lord Almighty.
En ce jour-là, dit le Seigneur des armées, je te prendrai, Zorobabel, fils de Salathiel, mon serviteur, dit le Seigneur, et je te poserai comme un sceau, parce que je t’ai choisi, dit le Seigneur des armées.
