Genesis 4
1 And Adam knew Eve his wife, and she conceived and brought forth Cain and said, I have gained a man through God.
Az ember pedig megismerte Évát, az ő feleségét; ez fogant és szülte Káint, és mondta: Szereztem férfit az Örökkévaló által.
2 And she again bore his brother Abel. And Abel was a keeper of sheep, but Cain was a tiller of the ground.
Továbbá szülte annak testvérét Ábelt; és Ábel juhpásztor lett, Káin pedig földműves volt.
3 And it was so after some time that Cain brought of the fruits of the earth a sacrifice to the Lord.
És történt napok múltán, hogy Káin hozott: föld gyümölcséből áldozatot az Örökkévalónak.
4 And Abel also brought of the first born of his sheep and of his fatlings, and God looked upon Abel and his gifts,
És Ábel, őszintén hozott juhainak elsőszülötteiből és pedig a kövérjeikből; és fordult az Örökkévaló Ábelhez és áldozatához,
5 but Cain and his sacrifices he regarded not, and Cain was exceedingly sorrowful and his countenance fell.
Káinhoz pedig és áldozatához nem fordult; ez igen boszantotta Káint és beesett az arca.
6 And the Lord God said to Cain, Why are you become very sorrowful and why is your countenance fallen?
Ekkor mondta az Örökkévaló Káinnak: Miért bosszankodsz és miért esett be arcod?
7 Hast you not sinned if you have brought it rightly, but not rightly divided it? be still, to you shall be his submission, and you shall rule over him.
Nemde ha jót cselekszel, akkor emelkedsz, ha pedig nem cselekszel jót, az ajtónál hever a bűn, utánad van vágyakozása, de te uralkodjál rajta.
8 And Cain said to Abel his brother, Let us go out into the plain; and it came to pass that when they were in the plain Cain rose up against Abel his brother, and killed him.
És beszélt Káin Ábellel, az ő testvérével. történt, midőn a mezőn voltak, rátámadt Káin Ábelre az ő testvérére és megölte őt.
9 And the Lord God said to Cain, Where is Abel your brother? and he said, I know not, am I my brother's keeper?
És mondta az Örökkévaló Káinnak: Hol van Ábel, a te testvéred? És ő mondta: Nem tudom; vajon testvérem őrzője vagyok-e én?
10 And the Lord said, What have you done? the voice of your brother's blood cries to me out of the ground.
És mondta (az Örökkévaló): Mit tettél? a te testvéred vérének hangja kiált föl hozzám a földből!
11 And now you [are] cursed from the earth which has opened her mouth to receive your brother's blood from your hand.
Azért most kiátkozott légy te a földről, mely megnyitotta száját, hogy befogadja testvérednek vérét a te kezedből.
12 When you till the earth, then it shall not continue to give its strength to you: you shall be groaning and trembling on the earth.
Ha megmunkálod a földet, ne adja többé erejét neked, kóbor és bujdosó légy a földön.
13 And Cain said to the Lord God, My crime [is] too great for me to be forgiven.
És mondta Káin az Örökkévalónak: Nagyobb az én bűnöm, semhogy elviselhetném.
14 If you cast me out this day from the face of the earth, and I shall be hidden from your presence, and I shall be groaning and trembling upon the earth, then it will be that any one that finds me shall kill me.
Íme, elűztél engem ma a föld szinéról; a Te színed elől rejtőzzem el, kóbor és bujdosó legyek a földön, lesz tehát, hogy bárki rámtalál, megöl engem.
15 And the Lord God said to him, Not so, any one that slays Cain shall suffer sevenfold vengeance; and the Lord God set a mark upon Cain that no one that found him might kill him.
És mondta neki az Örökkévaló: Azért, aki a Káint megöli; hétszeres a bosszú őérte! És csinált az Örökkévaló jelt Káinra, hogy agyon ne üsse őt, bárki rátalál.
16 So Cain went forth from the presence of God and lived in the land of Nod over against Edem.
És elment Káin az Örökkévaló színe elől és letelepedett Nód országában, Édentől keletre.
17 And Cain knew his wife, and having conceived she bore Enoch; and he built a city; and he named the city after the name of his son, Enoch.
És megismerte Káin az ő feleségét, ez fogant és szülte Chánóchot; ő pedig épített várost és elnevezte a várost, az ő fiának neve szerint: Chánóchnak.
18 And to Enoch was born Gaidad; and Gaidad begot Maleleel; and Maleleel begot Mathusala; and Mathusala begot Lamech.
Chánóchnak pedig született Iród, és Iród nemzette Mechújoélt; Mechújoél pedig nemzette Meszúsoélt és Meszúsoél nemzette Lemecht.
19 And Lamech took to himself two wives; the name of the one was Ada, and the name of the second Sella.
És vett magának Lemech két feleséget; az egyiknek a neve Ódó, a másiknak a neve Cilló.
20 And Ada bore Jobel; he was the father of those that dwell in tents, feeding cattle.
És Ódó szülte Jóvolt; ez volt atyja a sátorlakóknak és baromtenyésztőknek.
21 And the name of his brother was Jubal; he it was who invented the lute and harp.
Testvérének neve pedig Júvol; ez volt atyja minden hárfásnak és fuvolásnak.
22 And Sella also bore Thobel; he was a smith, a manufacturer both of brass and iron; and the sister of Thobel was Noema.
És Cilló is szült; (szülte) Túvál-Káint, köszörülője volt minden érc- és vasszerszámnak; Túvál-Káin nővére pedig volt Náámo.
23 And Lamech said to his wives, Ada and Sella, Hear my voice, you wives of Lamech, consider my words, because I have slain a man to my sorrow and a youth to my grief.
És mondta Lemech az ő feleségeinek: Ódó és Cilló! halljátok szavamat, Lemech feleségei, figyeljetek szózatomra! Mert férfit öltem sebem miatt és ifjút sérülésem miatt.
24 Because vengeance has been exacted seven times on Cain's behalf, on Lamech's [it shall be] seventy times seven.
Mert hétszeres a bosszú Káinért, de Lemechért hetvenhétszeres.
25 And Adam knew Eve his wife, and she conceived and bore a son, and called his name Seth, saying, For God has raised up to me another seed instead of Abel, whom Cain killed.
És Ádám újból megismerte az ő feleségét és ez fiat szült és elnevezte Sésznek: Mert adott nekem Isten más magzatot Ábel helyett, mivelhogy megölte őt Káin.
26 And Seth had a son, and he called his name Enos: he hoped to call on the name of the Lord God.
És Sésznek is született fia és elnevezte Enósnak; akkor kezdték el hívni az Örökkévaló nevét.
