Genesis 38
1 And it came to pass at that time that Judas went down from his brethren, and came as far as to a certain man of Odollam, whose name was Iras.
E aconteceu no mesmo tempo que Judá desceu de entre seus irmãos, e entrou na casa dum varão de Adullam, cujo nome era Hirah,
2 And Judas saw there the daughter of a Chananitish man, whose name was Sava; and he took her, and went in to her.
E viu Judá ali a filha dum varão cananeu, cujo nome era Shuah; e tomou-a, e entrou a ela.
3 And she conceived and bore a son, and called his name, Er.
E ela concebeu, e pariu um filho, e chamou o seu nome Er;
4 And she conceived and bore a son again; and called his name, Aunan.
E tornou a conceber, e pariu um filho, e chamou o seu nome Onan;
5 And she again bore a son; and called his name, Selom: and she was in Chasbi when she bore them.
E continuou ainda, e pariu um filho, e chamou o seu nome Selah; e ele estava em Chezib, quando ela o pariu.
6 And Judas took a wife for Er his firstborn, whose name was Thamar.
Judá pois tomou uma mulher para Er, o seu primogênito, e o seu nome era Tamar.
7 And Er, the firstborn of Judas, was wicked before the Lord; and God killed him.
Er, porém, o primogênito de Judá, era mau aos olhos do Senhor, pelo que o Senhor o matou.
8 And Judas said to Aunan, Go in to your brother's wife, and marry her as her brother-in-law, and raise up seed to your brother.
Então disse Judá a Onan: Entra à mulher do teu irmão, e casa-te com ela, e suscita semente a teu irmão.
9 And Aunan, knowing that the seed should not be his—it came to pass when he went in to his brother's wife, that he spilled [it] upon the ground, so that he should not give seed to his brother's wife.
Onan, porém, soube que esta semente não havia de ser para ele; e aconteceu que, quando entrava à mulher de seu irmão, derramava-a na terra, para não dar semente a seu irmão.
10 And his doing this appeared evil before God; and he killed him also.
E o que fazia era mau aos olhos do Senhor, pelo que também o matou.
11 And Judas said to Thamar, his daughter-in-law, Sit you a widow in the house of your father-in-law, until Selom my son be grown; for he said, lest he also die as his brethren; and Thamar departed, and sat in the house of her father.
Então disse Judá a Tamar sua nora: Fica-te viúva na casa de teu pai, até que Selah, meu filho, seja grande. Porquanto disse: Para que porventura não morra também este, como seus irmãos. Assim foi-se Tamar, e ficou-se na casa de seu pai.
12 And the days were fulfilled, and Sava the wife of Judas died; and Judas, being comforted, went to them that sheared his sheep, himself and Iras his Shepherd the Odollamite, to Thamna.
Passando-se pois muitos dias, morreu a filha de Shuah, mulher de Judá; e depois se consolou Judá, e subiu aos tosquiadores das suas ovelhas em Timnah, ele e Hirah seu amigo, o adullamita.
13 And it was told Thamar his daughter-in-law, saying, Behold, your father-in-law goes up to Thamna, to shear his sheep.
E deram aviso a Tamar, dizendo: Eis que o teu sogro sobe a Timnah, a tosquiar as suas ovelhas.
14 And having taken off the garments of her widowhood from her, she put on a veil, and ornamented her face, and sat by the gates of Aenan, which is in the way to Thamna, for she saw that Selom was grown; but he gave her not to him for a wife.
Então ela tirou de sobre si os vestidos da sua viuvez, e cobriu-se com o véu, e envolveu-se, e assentou-se à entrada das duas fontes que estão no caminho de Timnah, porque via que Selah já era grande, e ela lhe não fôra dada por mulher
15 And when Judas saw her, he thought her to be a harlot; for she covered her face, and he knew her not.
E vendo-a Judá, teve-a por uma prostituta; porque ela tinha coberto o seu rosto.
16 And he went out of his way to her, and said to her, Let me come in to you; for he knew not that she was his daughter-in-law; and she said, What will you give me if you should come in to me?
E apartou-se a ela ao caminho, e disse: Vem, peço-te, deixa-me entrar a ti. Porquanto não sabia que era sua nora: e ela disse: Que darás, para que entres a mim
17 And he said, I will send you a kid of the goats from my flock; and she said, [Well], if you will give me an earnest, until you send it.
E ele disse: Eu te enviarei um cabrito do rebanho. E ela disse: das-me penhor até que o envies?
18 And he said, What is the earnest that I shall give you? and she said, Your ring, and your bracelet, and the staff in your hand; and he gave them to her, and went in to her, and she conceived by him.
Então ele disse: Que penhor é que te darei? E ela disse: O teu selo, e o teu lenço, e o cajado que está em tua mão. O que ele lhe deu, e entrou a ela, e ela concebeu dele.
19 And she arose and departed, and took her veil from off her, and put on the garments of her widowhood.
E ela levantou-se, e foi-se, e tirou de sobre si o seu véu, e vestiu os vestidos da sua viuvez.
20 And Judas sent the kid of the goats by the hand of his shepherd the Odollamite, to receive the pledge from the woman; and he found her not.
E Judá enviou o cabrito por mão do seu amigo o adullamita, para tomar o penhor da mão da mulher, porém não a achou.
21 And he asked the men of the place, Where is the harlot who was in Aenan by the wayside? and they said, There was no harlot here.
E perguntou aos homens daquele lugar, dizendo: Onde está a prostituta que estava no caminho junto às duas fontes? E disseram: Aqui não esteve prostituta alguma.
22 And he returned to Judas, and said, I have not found her; and the men of the place say, There is no harlot here.
E tornou-se a Judá, e disse: Não a achei; e também disseram os homens daquele lugar: Aqui não esteve prostituta.
23 And Judas said, Let her have them, but let us not be ridiculed; I sent this kid, but you have not found her.
Então disse Judá: Tome-o para si, para que porventura não venhamos em desprezo; eis que tenho enviado este cabrito; mas tu não a achaste.
24 And it came to pass after three months, that it was told Judas, saying, Thamar your daughter-in-law has grievously played the harlot, and behold she is with child by whoredom; and Judas said, Bring her out, and let her be burnt.
E aconteceu que, quase três meses depois, deram aviso a Judá, dizendo: Tamar, tua nora, tem fornicado, e eis que está pejada da fornicação. Então disse Judá: tirai-a fora para que seja queimada.
25 And as they were bringing her, she sent to her father-in-law, saying, I am with child by the man whose these things are; and she said, See whose is this ring and bracelet and staff.
E tirando-a fora, ela mandou dizer a seu sogro: Do varão de quem são estas coisas eu concebi. E ela disse mais: Conhece, peço-te, de quem é este selo, e estes lenços e este cajado.
26 And Judas knew [them], and said, Thamar is cleared rather than I, forasmuch as I gave her not to Selom my son: and he knew her not again.
E conheceu-os Judá, e disse: Mais justa é ela do que eu. porquanto não a tenho dado a Selah meu filho. E nunca mais a conheceu.
27 And it came to pass when she was in labor, that she also had twins in her womb.
E aconteceu ao tempo de parir, eis que havia gêmeos em seu ventre;
28 And it came to pass as she was bringing forth, one thrust forth his hand, and the midwife having taken hold of it, bound upon his hand a scarlet [thread], saying, This one shall come out first.
E aconteceu que, parindo ela, que um pôs fora a mão, e a parteira tomou-a, e atou em sua mão um fio de grã, dizendo: Este saiu primeiro.
29 And when he drew back his hand, then immediately came forth his brother; and she said, Why has the barrier been cut through because of you? and she called his name, Phares.
Mas aconteceu que, tornando ele a recolher a sua mão, eis que saiu o seu irmão, e ela disse: Como tu tens rompido? sobre ti é a rotura. E chamaram o seu nome Perez;
30 And after this came forth his brother, on whose hand was the scarlet thread; and she called his name, Zara.
E depois saiu o seu irmão, em cuja mão estava o fio de grã; e chamaram o seu nome Zerah.
