Ezra 5
1 And Aggaeus the prophet, and Zacharias the [son] of Addo, prophesied a prophesy to the Jews in Juda and Jerusalem in the name of the God of Israel, [even] to them.
Damals weissagten die Seher Aggäus und Zacharias, Iddos Sohn, über die Judäer in Jerusalem und Juda im Namen des Gottes Israels.
2 Then rose up Zorobabel the [son] of Salathiel, and Jesus the son of Josedec, and began to build the house of God that was in Jerusalem: and with them [were] the prophets of God assisting them.
Darauf erhoben sich Zerubbabel, der Sohn Sealtiels, und Jesua, der Sohn des Josadak, und begannen, das Gotteshaus in Jerusalem zu bauen. Und die Propheten Gottes waren mit ihnen und unterstützten sie.
3 At the same time came there upon them Thanthanai, the governor on this side the river, and Satharbuzanai, and their fellow-servants, and spoke thus to them, Who has ordained a decree for you to build this house, and to [provide] this preparation?
Zu jener Zeit kam Syriens Landpfleger Tattenai zu ihnen und Setar Bozenai und ihre Amtsgenossen und sprachen also zu ihnen: "Wer hat euch erlaubt, dies Haus zu bauen und diese Mauer herzustellen?"
4 Then they spoke thus to them, What are the names of the men that build this city?
Auch fragten sie sie: "Wie heißen jene Männer, die dieses Gebäude bauen?"
5 But the eyes of God were upon the captivity of Juda, and they did not cause them to cease till the decree was brought to Darius; and then was sent by the tribute-gatherer concerning this
Aber ihres Gottes Augen ruhten auf den Ältesten der Judäer. Und so hinderten jene sie nicht, bis von Darius die Erlaubnis einlief und man hernach das Schreiben hierüber zustellte.
6 the copy of a letter, which Thanthanai, the governor of the part on this side the river, and Satharbuzanai, and their fellow-servants the Apharsachaeans who were on this side of the river, sent to king Darius.
Abschrift des Briefes, den Tattenai, Syriens Landpfleger, und Setar Bozenai und seine Amtsgenossen, die Statthalter in Syrien, an den König Darius geschickt hatten.
7 They sent an account to him, and thus it was written in it: All peace to king Darius.
Sie sandten den Bericht an ihn, und so stand darin geschrieben: "Dem König Darius allen Frieden!
8 Be it known to the king, that we went into the land of Judea, to the house of the great God; and it is building with choice stones, and they are laying timbers in the walls, and that work is prospering, and goes on favorably in their hands.
Dem König sei kundgetan, daß wir in der Provinz Juda zum Hause des Großgottes gekommen sind. Dieses wird aus Quadersteinen gebaut, und die Wände werden mit Holz getäfelt. Die Arbeit wird eifrig betrieben und gedeiht unter ihren Händen.
9 Then we asked those elders, and thus we said to them, Who gave you the order to build this house, and to [provide] this preparation?
Da haben wirjene Ältesten gefragt und so zu ihnen gesprochen: 'Wer hat euch Erlaubnis gegeben, dies Haus zu bauen und diese Mauern herzustellen?'
10 And we asked them their names, [in order] to declare [them] to you, so as to write to you the names of their leading men.
Auch nach ihren Namen haben wir sie gefragt, um sie dir mitzuteilen. Wir schrieben die Namen der Männer an ihrer Spitze auf.
11 And they answered us thus, saying, We [are] the servants of the God of heaven and earth, and we [are] building the house which had been built many years before this, and a great king of Israel built it, and established it for them.
Sie haben uns folgenden Bescheid gegeben: 'Wir sind Diener des Gottes Himmels und der Erden. Wir bauen dies Haus, das vor vielen Jahren gebaut worden ist. Ein großer König Israels hat es erbaut und vollendet.
12 But after that our fathers provoked the God of heaven, he gave them into the hands of Nabuchodonosor the Chaldean, king of Babylon, and he destroyed this house, and carried the people captive to Babylon.
Weil aber unsere Väter den Himmelsgott erzürnt haben, hat er sie in die Hand des Chaldäers Nebukadrezar, des Königs von Babel gegeben. Er hat dies Haus zerstört und das Volk nach Babel in die Gefangenschaft geführt.
13 And in the first year of king Cyrus, Cyrus the king made a decree that this house of God should be built.
Aber im ersten Jahre des Cyrus, des Königs von Babel, hat der König Cyrus den Befehl gegeben, dieses Haus aufzubauen.
14 And the gold and silver vessels of the house of God, which Nabuchodonosor brought out from the house that was in Jerusalem, and carried them into the temple of the king, them did king Cyrus bring out from the temple of the king, and gave them to Sabanasar the treasurer, who was over the treasurer;
Auch die goldenen und silbernen Geräte des Gotteshauses, die Nebukadrezar aus dem Tempel zu Jerusalem weggenonunen und in den Tempel zu Babel verbracht, hat der König Cyrus aus dem Tempel zu Babel geholt, und sie sind dem Sesbassar gegeben worden, der so heißt und den er zum Landpfleger eingesetzt hat.
15 and said to him, Take all the vessels, and go, put them in the house that is in Jerusalem in their place.
Er hat zu ihm gesagt: "Da hast du die Geräte. Nimm sie, zieh hin und lege sie im Tempel zu Jerusalem nieder! Das Gotteshaus soll an seiner Stätte aufgebaut werden!"
16 Then that Sabanazar came, and laid the foundations of the house of God in Jerusalem: and from that time even until now it has been building, and has not been finished.
Darauf ist jener Sesbassar gekommen und hat dem Gotteshaus zu Jerusalem Wehren gefertigt. Seitdem wird bis jetzt daran gebaut; es ist aber noch nicht fertig.'
17 And now, if it [seem] good to the king, lest search be made in the treasure-house of the king at Babylon, that you may know [if it be] that a decree was made by king Cyrus to build that house of God that was in Jerusalem, and let the king send to us when he has learned concerning this [matter].
Falls es dem König beliebt, möge im königlichen Schatzhaus dort zu Babel nachgeforscht werden, ob es so sei, daß vom König Cyrus Befehl ergangen ist, dies Gotteshaus zu bauen! Den Bescheid des Königs in dieser Sache lasse er uns zukommen!"
