1 Moreover do you take up a lamentation for the prince of Israel,
“Pou nou menm, komanse fè gwo lamantasyon pou prens Israël yo,
2 and say, Why is your mother become a whelp in the midst of lions? in the midst of lions she has multiplied her whelps.
Epi di: ‘Kisa manman ou te ye? Yon manman lyon pami lyon yo! Li te kouche pami jenn ti lyon yo; pami jenn lyon yo, li te leve pitit li yo.
3 And one of her whelps sprang forth; he became a lion, and learned to take prey, he devoured men.
Lè l te fin leve youn nan pitit li yo, pitit la te devni yon lyon. Li te vin aprann jan pou li dechire bèt pou li manje; li te devore moun.
4 And the nations heard a report of him; he was caught in their pit, and they brought him into the land of Egypt in chains.
Alò, nasyon yo te tande de li; li te vin kaptire nan twou fòs pa yo, e yo te mennen li ak kwòk, rive nan peyi Égypte.
5 And she saw that he was driven away from her, [and] her hope [of him] perished, and she took another of her whelps; she made him a lion.
“‘Lè manman lyon an te wè ke li te tann, men ke espwa li te vin pèdi, li te pran yon lòt nan pitit li yo, e te fè l vin yon jenn ti lyon.
6 And he went up and down in the midst of lions, he became a lion, and learned to take prey, he devoured men.
Konsa, li te mache toupatou pami lyon yo. Li te devni yon jenn ti lyon. Li te aprann jan pou kenbe viktim li. Li te devore moun.
7 And he prowled in his boldness and laid waste their cities, and made the land desolate, and the fullness of it, by the voice of his roaring.
Li te konnen gran palè yo, e li te devaste vil yo. Peyi a ak tout bèlte li te vin gate nèt, akoz son a gwonde li.
8 Then the nations set upon him from the countries round about, and they spread their nets upon him: he was taken in their pit.
Nasyon yo te atake li tout kote soti nan pwovens yo. Yo te ouvri filè yo sou li. Li te vin kaptire nan twou fòs yo.
9 And they put him in chains and in a cage, [and] he came to the king of Babylon; and he cast him into prison, that his voice should not be heard on the mountains of Israel.
Yo te mete li nan yon kalòj ak kwòk, e te mennen li kote wa Babylone nan. Yo te mennen li andedan fò yo pou vwa l pa tande menm ankò sou mòn Israël yo.
10 Your mother was as a vine and as a blossom on a pomegranate tree, planted by water: her fruit and her shoot abounded by reason of much water.
“‘Manman ou te tankou yon lyann nan san ou an. Li te plante bò kote dlo. Li te plen fwi ak anpil branch, akoz dlo an abondans.
11 And she became a rod for a tribe of princes, and was elevated in her bulk in the midst of [other] trees, and she saw her bulk in the multitude of her branches.
Li te gen branch ki dyanm, ki ta ka sèvi pou baton wa yo. Wotè li te leve pi wo nwaj yo pou moun ta ka wè l nan tout wotè li ak tout branch li yo.
12 But she was broken down in wrath, she was cast upon the ground, and the east wind dried up her choice [branches]: vengeance came upon them, and the rod of her strength was withered; fire consumed it.
Men li te vin rache ak kòlè. Li te jete atè nèt, epi van nan lès te seche fwi li yo. Gwo branch dyanm li yo te vin rache. Yo te fennen. Dife te manje yo nèt.
13 And now they have planted her in the wilderness, in a dry land.
Epi koulye a, li vin plante nan dezè a, nan yon peyi ki sèch e ki swaf.
14 And fire is gone out of a rod of her choice [boughs], and has devoured her; and there was no rod of strength in her. Her race is become a parable of lamentation, and it shall be for a lamentation.
Dife a fin gaye nan tout branch li yo. Li te konsonmen boujon ak fwi li yo, jiskaske pa t gen ladann yon branch ki dyanm, pou fè baton pou wa a.’ Sa se yon lamantasyon. Konsa, li va sèvi kon yon lamantasyon.”
