Ecclesiastes 4
1 So I returned, and saw all the oppressions that were done under the sun: and behold the tear of the oppressed, and they had no comforter; and on the side of them that oppressed them was power; but they had no comforter:
೧ಆ ಮೇಲೆ ಪುನಃ ದೃಷ್ಟಿಸಿ ಸೂರ್ಯನ ಕೆಳಗೆ ನಡೆಯುತ್ತಿರುವ ಹಿಂಸೆಗಳನ್ನೆಲ್ಲಾ ನೋಡಿದೆನು. ಆಹಾ! ಹಿಂಸೆಗೊಂಡವರ ಕಣ್ಣೀರನ್ನು ನೋಡು. ಅವರನ್ನು ಸಂತೈಸುವವರು ಯಾರೂ ಇಲ್ಲ. ಅವರನ್ನು ಹಿಂಸಿಸುವವರಿಗೆ ಬಹಳ ಬಲ ಇದೆ. ಹಿಂಸೆಗೊಂಡವರನ್ನು ಸಂತೈಸುವವರು ಒಬ್ಬರೂ ಇಲ್ಲ.
2 and I praised all the dead that had already died more than the living, as many as are alive until now.
೨ಇದನ್ನು ನೋಡಿ ಇನ್ನೂ ಜೀವದಿಂದಿದ್ದು ಬದುಕುವವರಿಗಿಂತ ಸತ್ತವರೇ ಮೇಲೆಂದು ಹೊಗಳಿದೆನು.
3 Better also than both these is he who has not yet been, who has not seen all the evil work that is done under the sun.
೩ಹೌದು, ಈ ಇಬ್ಬರಿಗಿಂತಲೂ ಇನ್ನೂ ಹುಟ್ಟದೇ, ಲೋಕದಲ್ಲಿ ನಡೆಯುತ್ತಿರುವ ಅಧರ್ಮವನ್ನು ನೋಡದೆ ಇರುವುದೇ ಒಳ್ಳೆಯದೆಂದು ತಿಳಿದುಕೊಂಡೆನು.
4 And I saw all labor, and all the diligent work, that this is a man's envy from his neighbor. This is also vanity and waywardness of spirit.
೪ಆಗ ಸಮಸ್ತ ಪ್ರಯಾಸವನ್ನು, ಕೈಗೂಡುವ ಸಕಲ ಕಾರ್ಯವನ್ನು ನೋಡಿ ಇವು ಪರಸ್ಪರ ಮತ್ಸರಕ್ಕೆ ಆಸ್ಪದವೆಂದು ಗ್ರಹಿಸಿಕೊಂಡೆನು. ಇದು ಗಾಳಿಯನ್ನು ಹಿಂದಟ್ಟಿದ ಹಾಗೆ ವ್ಯರ್ಥವೇ.
5 The fool folds his hands together, and eats his own flesh.
೫ಮೂಢನು ತನ್ನ ಕೈಗಳನ್ನು ಮುಚ್ಚಿಕೊಂಡು ಯಾವ ಕೆಲಸವನ್ನು ಮಾಡದೆ, ತನ್ನನ್ನು ತಾನು ನಾಶಪಡಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವನು.
6 Better is a handful of rest than two handfuls of trouble and waywardness of spirit.
೬ಗಾಳಿಯನ್ನು ಹಿಂದಟ್ಟುವ ಹಾಗೆಯೇ ಪ್ರಯಾಸದಿಂದ ತುಂಬಿದ ಎರಡು ಕೈಗಳಿಂದ ಮಾಡಿದ ಕೆಲಸಕ್ಕಿಂತ ನೆಮ್ಮದಿಯಾಗಿ ಒಂದು ಕೈಯಿಂದ ಮಾಡಿದ ಕೆಲಸವೇ ಲೇಸು.
7 So I returned, and saw vanity under the sun.
೭ಆಗ ನಾನು ಲೋಕದಲ್ಲಿ ಮತ್ತೊಂದು ವ್ಯರ್ಥ ವಿಷಯವನ್ನು ಕಂಡೆನು.
8 There is one [alone], and there is not a second; yes, he has neither son nor brother: yet there is no end to all his labor; neither is his eye satisfied with wealth; and for whom do I labor, and deprive my soul of good? this is also vanity, and an evil trouble.
೮ಒಬ್ಬಂಟಿಗನಾದ ಒಬ್ಬ ಮನುಷ್ಯನಿದ್ದಾನೆ. ಅವನಿಗೆ ಅಣ್ಣತಮ್ಮಂದಿರು ಇಲ್ಲ, ಮಕ್ಕಳೂ ಇಲ್ಲ. ಆದರೂ ಅವನ ಪ್ರಯಾಸಕ್ಕೆ ಅಂತ್ಯವಿಲ್ಲ, ಐಶ್ವರ್ಯದಿಂದ ಅವನ ಕಣ್ಣಿಗೆ ತೃಪ್ತಿಯಿಲ್ಲ. ಅವನು, “ನಾನು ಸುಖವನ್ನು ತೊರೆದು ಯಾರಿಗೋಸ್ಕರ ಪ್ರಯಾಸಪಡುತ್ತಾ ಇದ್ದೇನೆ?” ಅಂದುಕೊಳ್ಳುವನು. ಇದೂ ಸಹ ವ್ಯರ್ಥವೇ. ಕೇವಲ ಪ್ರಯಾಸದ ಕೆಲಸವೇ ಸರಿ.
9 Two [are] better than one, [seeing] they have a good reward for their labor.
೯ಒಬ್ಬನಿಗಿಂತ ಇಬ್ಬರು ಕೆಲಸ ಮಾಡುವುದು ಒಳ್ಳೆಯದು. ಅವರ ಪ್ರಯಾಸಕ್ಕೆ ಒಳ್ಳೆಯ ಲಾಭವನ್ನು ಸಂಪಾದಿಸಬಹುದು.
10 For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow: but woe to him that is alone when he falls, and there is not a second to lift him up.
೧೦ಒಬ್ಬನು ಬಿದ್ದರೆ, ಇನ್ನೊಬ್ಬನು ತನ್ನ ಸ್ನೇಹಿತನನ್ನು ಮೇಲಕ್ಕೆ ಎಬ್ಬಿಸುವನು. ಒಬ್ಬನು ಒಬ್ಬಂಟ್ಟಿಗನಾಗಿ ಬಿದ್ದರೆ, ಅವನನ್ನು ಮೇಲಕ್ಕೆ ಎಬ್ಬಿಸುವವನು ಯಾರೂ ಇಲ್ಲ, ಅವನ ಗತಿ ದುರ್ಗತಿಯೇ.
11 Also if two should lie together, they also get heat: but how shall one be warmed [alone?]
೧೧ಮತ್ತು ಇಬ್ಬರು ಜೊತೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಮಲಗಿಕೊಂಡರೆ ಅವರಿಗೆ ಬೆಚ್ಚಗಾಗುತ್ತದೆ, ಆದರೆ ಒಬ್ಬನು ಹೇಗೆ ಬೆಚ್ಚಗಿರುತ್ತಾನೆ?
12 And if one should prevail against [him], the two shall withstand him; and a threefold cord shall not be quickly broken.
೧೨ಒಬ್ಬನನ್ನು ಮತ್ತೊಬ್ಬನು ಜಯಿಸಬಹುದು, ಆದರೆ ಗೆದ್ದವನನ್ನು ಇಬ್ಬರು ಎದುರಿಸಿ ನಿಲ್ಲಿಸಬಹುದು. ಮೂರು ಹುರಿಯ ಹಗ್ಗ ಬೇಗನೆ ಕಿತ್ತುಹೋಗುವುದಿಲ್ಲ.
13 Better is a poor and wise child than an old and foolish king, who knows not how to take heed any longer.
೧೩ಎಚ್ಚರಿಕೆಯ ಮಾತಿಗೆ ಕಿವಿಗೊಡದ ಮುದಕನೂ, ಮೂಢನೂ ಆದ ಅರಸನಿಗಿಂತ ಜ್ಞಾನಿಯಾದ ಬಡ ಯುವಕನೇ ಮೇಲು.
14 For he shall come forth out of the house of the prisoners to reign, because [he] also that was in his kingdom has become poor.
೧೪ಇಂಥ ಯುವಕನೊಬ್ಬನು ರಾಜನಾಗಲು ಸೆರೆಮನೆಯಿಂದ ಬಂದಿರಬಹುದು ಅಥವಾ ತನ್ನ ರಾಜ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಬಡ ಪ್ರಜೆಯಾಗಿ ಹುಟ್ಟಿರಬಹುದು.
15 I saw all the living who were walking under the sun, with the second youth who shall stand up in each one's place.
೧೫ಸೂರ್ಯನ ಕೆಳಗೆ ಜೀವಿಸಿ ಮತ್ತು ನಡೆದಾಡಿದವರೆಲ್ಲರೂ ಅರಸನ ಉತ್ತರಾಧಿಕಾರಿಯಾದ ಯುವಕನ ಪಕ್ಷವಹಿಸುವುದನ್ನು ನಾನು ನೋಡಿದೆನು.
16 There is no end to all the people, to all who were before them: and the last shall not rejoice in him: for this also is vanity and waywardness of spirit.
೧೬ಇವನ ಅಧಿಪತ್ಯಕ್ಕೆ ಒಳಪಟ್ಟ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಜನರ ಸಂಖ್ಯೆಯು ಅಪಾರ. ಅವನ ಆಳ್ವಿಕೆಯ ನಂತರ ಇವನಲ್ಲಿ ಆನಂದಿಸುವುದಿಲ್ಲ. ಇದೂ ಸಹ ಗಾಳಿಯನ್ನು ಹಿಂದಟ್ಟಿದ ಹಾಗೆ ವ್ಯರ್ಥವಾಗಿದೆ.
