Deuteronomy 31
1 And Moses finished speaking all these words to all the children of Israel;
Môi-se tiếp tục nói cùng dân Ít-ra-ên:
2 and said to them, I am this day a hundred and twenty years [old]; I shall not be able any longer to come in or go out; and the Lord said to me, You shall not go over this Jordan.
“Bây giờ tôi đã già, đã 120 tuổi, không còn đi lại như xưa được nữa, và Chúa Hằng Hữu cũng đã bảo tôi không được qua Sông Giô-đan.
3 The Lord your God who goes before you, he shall destroy these nations before you, and you shall inherit them: and [it shall be] Joshua that goes before your face, as the Lord has spoken.
Nhưng chính Chúa Hằng Hữu, Đức Chúa Trời của anh em, sẽ dẫn anh em qua sông. Ngài sẽ tiêu diệt các dân tộc sống bên ấy để anh em chiếm đất. Theo lệnh của Chúa Hằng Hữu, Giô-suê sẽ lãnh đạo anh em qua sông.
4 And the Lord your God shall do to them as he did to Seon and Og the two kings of the Amorites, who were beyond Jordan, and to their land, as he destroyed them.
Chúa Hằng Hữu sẽ tiêu diệt các dân tộc ấy, như Ngài đã tiêu diệt các vua A-mô-rít là Si-hôn và Óc, cùng với vương quốc của họ.
5 And the Lord has delivered them to you; and you shall do to them, as I charged you.
Chúa sẽ giao các dân tộc ấy cho anh em, và anh em phải tận diệt họ đúng theo lệnh tôi đã truyền.
6 Be courageous and strong, fear not, neither be cowardly neither be afraid before them; for [it is] the Lord your God that advances with you in the midst of you, neither will he by any means forsake you, nor desert you.
Phải mạnh bạo và can đảm lên! Đừng sợ gì cả! Có Chúa Hằng Hữu, Đức Chúa Trời của anh em, đi với anh em. Ngài không lìa bỏ anh em đâu.”
7 And Moses called Joshua, and said to him before all Israel, Be courageous and strong; for you shall go in before this people into the land which the Lord sware to your fathers to give to them, and you shall give it to them for an inheritance.
Nói xong, Môi-se cho mời Giô-suê đến, và nói với ông trước mặt toàn dân: “Phải mạnh bạo, can đảm, vì anh sẽ dẫn dân ta vào đất Chúa cho họ, theo lời Ngài hứa với các tổ tiên. Anh sẽ chỉ huy cuộc chinh phục này.
8 And the Lord that goes with you shall not forsake you nor abandon you; fear not, neither be afraid.
Chúa Hằng Hữu sẽ hướng dẫn đường đi. Chính Ngài sẽ ở cùng anh, không quên, không bỏ anh đâu, đừng sợ!”
9 And Moses wrote the words of this law in a book, and gave it to the priests the sons of Levi who bear the ark of the covenant of the Lord, and to the elders of the sons of Israel.
Môi-se chép trọn bộ luật, đem đến cho các thầy tế lễ, con cháu Lê-vi, những người khiêng Hòm Giao Ước của Chúa, các trưởng lão Ít-ra-ên và giao cho họ giữ.
10 And Moses charged them in that day, saying, After seven years, in the time of the year of release, in the feast of tabernacles,
Rồi Môi-se truyền lệnh: “Bảy năm một lần, vào Năm Giải Trừ, trong dịp Lễ Lều Tạm,
11 when all Israel come together to appear before the Lord your God, in the place which the Lord shall choose, you shall read this law before all Israel in their ears,
luật này phải được đem đọc cho toàn thể dân chúng nghe khi toàn dân Ít-ra-ên kéo nhau lên nơi Ngài sẽ chọn để ra mắt Chúa Hằng Hữu, Đức Chúa Trời của anh em.
12 having assembled the people, the men, and the women, and the children, and the stranger that is in your cities, that they may hear, and that they may learn to fear the Lord your God; and they shall listen to do all the words of this law.
Phải tập họp toàn dân, nam phụ lão ấu, và người ngoại kiều sống trong lãnh thổ, cho họ nghe đọc bộ luật này, để họ học tập kính sợ Chúa Hằng Hữu, Đức Chúa Trời của anh em, và thận trọng tuân hành luật lệ Ngài.
13 And their sons who have not known shall hear, and shall learn to fear the Lord your God all the days that they live upon the land, into which you go over Jordan to inherit it.
Nhờ vậy, con cháu anh em ai chưa nghe luật này sẽ được nghe và học tập kính sợ Chúa Hằng Hữu, Đức Chúa Trời của anh em, suốt thời gian sống trong đất ngang sông Giô-đan mà anh em sắp chiếm hữu.”
14 And the Lord said to Moses, Behold, the days of your death are at hand; call Joshua, and stand you by the doors of the tabernacle of testimony, and I will give him a charge. And Moses and Joshua went to the tabernacle of testimony, and stood by the doors of the tabernacle of testimony.
Hôm ấy, Chúa Hằng Hữu phán với Môi-se: “Này con, ngày qua đời của con sắp đến. Con gọi Giô-suê đi với con vào Đền Tạm, tại đó Ta sẽ có lời ủy nhiệm Giô-suê.” Hai ông vâng lời.
15 And the Lord descended in a cloud, and stood by the doors of the tabernacle of testimony; and the pillar of the cloud stood by the doors of the tabernacle of testimony.
Chúa Hằng Hữu hiện ra tại Đền Tạm, trong một trụ mây. Trụ mây dừng lại tại cửa lều.
16 And the Lord said to Moses, Behold, you shall sleep with your fathers, and this people will arise and go a whoring after the strange gods of the land, into which they are entering: and they will forsake me, and break my covenant, which I made with them.
Chúa Hằng Hữu phán bảo Môi-se: “Con sẽ an giấc cùng tổ tiên. Còn dân này sẽ đi thờ các thần của những nơi họ sắp vào. Họ sẽ bỏ Ta, bội ước với Ta.
17 And I will be very angry with them in that day, and I will leave them and turn my face away from them, and they shall be devoured; and many evils and afflictions shall come upon them; and they shall say in that day, Because the Lord my God is not with me, these evils have come upon me.
Ta sẽ nổi giận và lìa bỏ họ. Khi Ta quay mặt làm ngơ, họ sẽ bị tiêu vong, sẽ gặp nhiều tai họa khủng khiếp. Đến lúc ấy, họ sẽ thắc mắc: ‘Chắc Đức Chúa Trời không ở cùng ta, nên ta mới gặp hoạn nạn thế này!’
18 And I will surely turn away my face from them in that day, because of all their evil doings which they have done, because they turned aside after strange gods.
Nhưng Ta quay mặt đi vì những điều ác họ đã làm, bởi họ đi thờ các thần khác.
19 And now write the words of this song, and teach it to the children of Israel, and you shall put it into their mouth, that this song may witness for me among the children of Israel to their face.
Thế thì bây giờ, con viết một bài ca và đem dạy cho toàn dân Ít-ra-ên. Bài ca đó dùng để cảnh cáo họ.
20 For I will bring them into the good land, which I sware to their fathers, to give to them a land flowing with milk and honey: and they shall eat and be filled and satisfy [themselves]; then will they turn aside after other gods, and serve them, and they will provoke me, and break my covenant.
Vì Ta sẽ đem họ vào đất Ta hứa cho tổ tiên họ, một vùng đất phì nhiêu; nhưng khi họ đã no béo liền khinh bỏ Ta, bội ước với Ta, đi thờ các thần khác.
21 And this song shall stand up to witness against them; for they shall not forget it out of their mouth, or out of the mouth of their seed; for I know their wickedness, what they are doing here this day, before I have brought them into the good land, which I sware to their fathers.
Họ sẽ gặp tai họa khủng khiếp. Lúc ấy bài ca này (vì được truyền tụng từ đời này qua đời kia) sẽ là những lời cảnh cáo họ. Vì Ta biết họ, biết cả tư tưởng họ, trước khi đem họ vào đất hứa.”
22 And Moses wrote this song in that day, and taught it to the children of Israel.
Vậy hôm ấy, Môi-se chép bài ca này, đem dạy cho toàn dân Ít-ra-ên.
23 And he charged Joshua, and said, Be courageous and strong, for you shall bring the sons of Israel into the land, which the Lord sware to them, and he shall be with you.
Chúa Hằng Hữu ủy nhiệm chức vụ cho Giô-suê, con của Nun, và phán bảo ông: “Phải mạnh bạo, đầy lòng can đảm, vì con sẽ đem người Ít-ra-ên vào đất Ta hứa cho họ. Ta sẽ luôn luôn ở cạnh bên con.”
24 And when Moses finished writing all the words of this law in a book, even to the end,
Khi Môi-se chép xong hết các luật lệ vào một cuốn sách,
25 then he charged the Levites who bear the ark of the covenant of the Lord, saying,
ông bảo những người Lê-vi khiêng Hòm Giao Ước của Chúa Hằng Hữu:
26 Take the book of this law, and you shall put it in the side of the ark of the covenant of the Lord your God; and it shall be there among you for a testimony.
“Đem đặt Sách Luật Pháp này bên cạnh Hòm Giao Ước của Chúa Hằng Hữu, Đức Chúa Trời của anh em, dùng để cảnh cáo người Ít-ra-ên.
27 For I know your provocation, and your stiff neck; for yet during my life with you at this day, you have been provoking in your conduct toward God: how shall you not also be so after my death?
Vì tôi biết họ là một dân tộc ngoan cố và bướng bỉnh. Ngay lúc tôi còn sống, họ đã dám nổi loạn chống Chúa Hằng Hữu, huống chi khi tôi chết rồi, họ còn loạn đến đâu!
28 Gather together to me the heads of your tribes, and your elders, and your judges, and your officers, that I may speak in their ears all these words; and I call both heaven and earth to witness against them.
Xin các ông mời các trưởng lão và viên chức trong các đại tộc họp lại để tôi có đôi lời nói với họ. Tôi cũng xin trời đất chứng giám cho những lời này.
29 For I know that after my death you will utterly transgress, and turn aside out of the way which I have commanded you; and evils shall come upon you in the latter days, because you will do evil before the Lord, to provoke him to anger by the works of your hands. And Moses spoke all the words of this song even to the end, in the ears of the whole assembly.
Tôi biết rằng, sau khi tôi chết đi, họ sẽ hư hỏng, từ bỏ đường lối tôi đã dạy họ, và trong tương lai, tai ương sẽ xảy đến cho họ, vì họ làm điều ác trước mặt Chúa Hằng Hữu, chọc Ngài giận.”
Sau đó, Môi-se lặp lại từ đầu đến cuối bài ca này cho toàn dân Ít-ra-ên nghe:
