Daniel 4

1 King Nabuchodonosor to all nations, tribes, and tongues, who dwell in all the earth; Peace be multiplied to you.

El rey Nabucodonosor, a todos los pueblos, naciones y lenguas que habitan en toda la tierra: Que la paz se multiplique para ti.

2 It seemed good to me to declare to you the signs and wonders which the most high God has wrought with me,

Me ha parecido bien mostrar las señales y los prodigios que el Dios Altísimo ha hecho conmigo.

3 how great and mighty [they are]: his kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and his power to all generations.

¡Qué grandes son sus signos! ¡Qué poderosas son sus maravillas! Su reino es un reino eterno. Su dominio es de generación en generación.

4 I Nabuchodonosor was thriving in my house, and prospering.

Yo, Nabucodonosor, estaba tranquilo en mi casa y floreciente en mi palacio.

5 I saw a vision, and it terrified me, and I was troubled on my bed, and the visions of my head troubled me.

Vi un sueño que me hizo temer, y los pensamientos de mi cama y las visiones de mi cabeza me turbaron.

6 And I made a decree to bring in before me all the wise men of Babylon, that they might make known to me the interpretation of the dream.

Por lo tanto, decreté traer a todos los sabios de Babilonia ante mí, para que me dieran a conocer la interpretación del sueño.

7 So the enchanters, magicians, soothsayers, [and] Chaldeans came in: and I told the dream before them; but they did not make known to me the interpretation thereof;

Entonces entraron los magos, los encantadores, los caldeos y los adivinos; y les conté el sueño, pero no me dieron a conocer su interpretación.

8 until Daniel came, whose name is Baltasar, according to the name of my God, who has within him the Holy Spirit of God; to whom I said,

Pero al fin entró ante mí Daniel, cuyo nombre era Beltsasar, según el nombre de mi dios, y en quien está el espíritu de los dioses santos. Conté el sueño ante él, diciendo

9 O Baltasar, chief of the enchanters, of whom I know that the Holy Spirit of God is in you, and no mystery is too hard for you, hear the vision of my dream which I had, and tell me the interpretation of it.

“Beltsasar, maestro de los magos, porque sé que el espíritu de los dioses santos está en ti y que ningún secreto te perturba, cuéntame las visiones de mi sueño que he visto y su interpretación.

10 I had a vision upon my bed; and behold a tree in the midst of the earth, and its height was great.

Estas fueron las visiones de mi cabeza en mi lecho: Vi, y he aquí un árbol en medio de la tierra; y su altura era grande.

11 The tree grew large and strong, and its height reached to the sky, and its extent to the extremity of the whole earth:

El árbol crecía y era fuerte. Su altura llegaba hasta el cielo y su vista hasta el final de toda la tierra.

12 its leaves were fair, and its fruit abundant, and in it was meat for all; and under it the wild beasts of the field took shelter, and the birds of the sky lodged in the branches of it, and all flesh was fed of it.

Sus hojas eran hermosas y tenía mucho fruto, y en él había alimento para todos. Los animales del campo tenían sombra bajo él, y las aves del cielo vivían en sus ramas, y toda carne se alimentaba de él.

13 I saw in the night vision upon my bed, and, behold, a watcher and an holy one came down from heaven and cried aloud, and thus he said,

“Vi en las visiones de mi cabeza en mi cama, y he aquí que un santo vigilante bajó del cielo.

14 Cut down the tree, and pluck off its branches, and shake off its leaves, and scatter its fruit: let the wild beasts be removed from under it, and the birds from its branches.

Gritó en voz alta y dijo esto ‘¡Derriben el árbol y corten sus ramas! Sacudan sus hojas y esparzan sus frutos. Que los animales se alejen de él y los pájaros de sus ramas.

15 Only leave the stump of its roots in the earth, and [bind it] with an iron and brass band; and it shall lie in the grass that is without and in the dew of heaven, and its portion [shall be] with the wild beasts in the grass of the field.

Sin embargo, deja el muñón de sus raíces en la tierra, con una banda de hierro y bronce, en la hierba tierna del campo; y que se moje con el rocío del cielo. Que su parte sea con los animales en la hierba de la tierra.

16 His heart shall be changed from that of man, and the heart of a wild beast shall be given to him; and seven times shall pass over him.

Que su corazón sea cambiado del de los hombres, y que se le dé un corazón de animal. Entonces que pasen sobre él siete tiempos.

17 The matter is by the decree of the watcher, and the demand is a word of the holy ones; that the living may known that the Lord is most high [over] the kingdom of men, and he will give it to whoever he shall please, and will set up over it that which is set at nothing of men.

“‘La sentencia es por decreto de los vigilantes y la demanda por palabra de los santos, con el fin de que los vivos sepan que el Altísimo gobierna en el reino de los hombres, y lo da a quien quiere, y pone sobre él a los más bajos de los hombres.’

18 This is the vision which I king Nabuchodonosor saw: and do you, Baltasar, declare the interpretation, for none of the wise men of my kingdom are able to show me the interpretation of it: but you, Daniel, are able; for the Holy Spirit of God is in you.

“Este sueño lo he visto yo, el rey Nabucodonosor, y tú, Beltsasar, declara la interpretación, porque todos los sabios de mi reino no son capaces de darme a conocer la interpretación, pero tú sí, porque el espíritu de los dioses santos está en ti.”

19 Then Daniel, whose name is Baltasar, was amazed about one hour, and his thoughts troubled him. And Baltasar answered and said, [My] lord, let the dream be to them that hate you, and the interpretation of it to your enemies.

Entonces Daniel, cuyo nombre era Beltsasar, se quedó mudo por un momento, y sus pensamientos lo perturbaron. El rey respondió: “Beltsasar, no dejes que el sueño o la interpretación te perturben”. Beltsasar respondió: “Señor mío, que el sueño sea para los que te odian, y su interpretación para tus adversarios.

20 The tree which you saw, that grew large and strong, whose height reached to the sky and its extent to all the earth;

El árbol que viste, que crecía y era fuerte, cuya altura llegaba al cielo y su vista a toda la tierra;

21 and whose leaves were flourishing, and its fruit abundant, (and it was meat for all; under it the wild beasts lodged, and the birds of the sky took shelter in its branches: )

cuyas hojas eran hermosas y su fruto abundante, y en él había alimento para todos; bajo el cual vivían los animales del campo, y en cuyas ramas tenían su morada las aves del cielo —

22 is yourself, O king; for you are grown great and powerful, and your greatness has increased and reached to heaven, and your dominion to the ends of the earth.

eres tú, oh rey, el que ha crecido y se ha hecho fuerte; pues tu grandeza ha crecido, y llega hasta el cielo, y tu dominio hasta el fin de la tierra.

23 And whereas the king saw a watcher and a holy one coming down from heaven, and he said, Strip the tree, and destroy it; only leave the stump of its roots in the ground, and [bind it] with a band of iron and brass; and it shall lie in the grass that is without, and in the dew of heaven, and its portion shall be with wild beasts, until seven times have passed over it;

“Mientras que el rey vio a un santo vigilante que bajaba del cielo y decía: ‘Corta el árbol y destrúyelo; sin embargo, deja el muñón de sus raíces en la tierra, con una banda de hierro y bronce, en la hierba tierna del campo, y que se moje con el rocío del cielo. Que su parte sea con los animales del campo, hasta que pasen siete tiempos sobre él’.

24 this is the interpretation of it, O king, and it is a decree of the Most High, which has come upon my lord the king.

“Esta es la interpretación, oh rey, y es el decreto del Altísimo que ha caído sobre mi señor el rey:

25 And they shall drive you forth from men, and your dwelling shall be with wild beasts, and they shall feed you with grass as an ox, and you shall have your lodging under the dew of heaven, and seven times shall pass over you, until you known that the Most High is Lord of the kingdom of men, and will give it to whom he shall please.

Serás expulsado de los hombres y tu morada será con los animales del campo. Se te hará comer hierba como a los bueyes, y te mojarás con el rocío del cielo, y pasarán siete veces sobre ti, hasta que sepas que el Altísimo gobierna en el reino de los hombres y lo da a quien él quiere.

26 And whereas they said, Leave the stumps of the roots of the tree; your kingdom abides [sure] to you from the time that you shall know the power of the heavens.

Mientras que se ordenó dejar el tronco de las raíces del árbol, tu reino te será seguro después de que sepas que el Altísimo gobierna.

27 Therefore, O king, let my counsel please you, and atone for your sins by alms, and [your] iniquities by compassion on the poor: it may be God will be longsuffering to your trespasses.

Por lo tanto, oh rey, que mi consejo te sea aceptable, y rompe tus pecados con la justicia, y tus iniquidades mostrando misericordia a los pobres. Tal vez se prolongue tu tranquilidad”.

28 All these things came upon king Nabuchodonosor.

Todo esto le ocurrió al rey Nabucodonosor.

29 After a twelvemonth, as he walked in his palace in Babylon,

Al cabo de doce meses se paseaba por el palacio real de Babilonia.

30 the king answered and said, Is not this great Babylon, which I have built for a royal residence, by the might of my power, for the honor of my glory?

El rey habló y dijo: “¿No es ésta la gran Babilonia que he construido para morada real con la fuerza de mi poder y para gloria de mi majestad?”

31 While the word was yet in the king's mouth, there came a voice from heaven, [saying], To you, king Nabuchodonosor, they say, The kingdom has departed from you.

Mientras la palabra estaba en la boca del rey, una voz vino del cielo, diciendo: “Oh rey Nabucodonosor, a ti se te ha dicho: ‘El reino se ha alejado de ti.

32 And they [shall] drive you from men, and your dwelling shall be with the wild beasts of the field, and they shall feed you with grass as an ox: and seven times shall pass over you, until you know that the Most High is Lord of the kingdom of men, and he will give it to whoever he shall please.

Serás expulsado de los hombres y tu morada será con los animales del campo. Se te hará comer hierba como a los bueyes. Siete tiempos pasarán sobre ti, hasta que sepas que el Altísimo gobierna en el reino de los hombres, y lo da a quien él quiere’”.

33 In the same hour the word was fulfilled upon Nabuchodonosor: and he was driven forth from men, and he ate grass as an ox, and his body was bathed with the dew of heaven, until his hairs were grown like lions' [hairs], and his nails as birds' [claws].

Esto se cumplió en la misma hora sobre Nabucodonosor. Fue expulsado de los hombres y comió hierba como los bueyes; y su cuerpo se mojó con el rocío del cielo hasta que su pelo creció como las plumas de las águilas, y sus uñas como las garras de las aves.

34 And at the end of the time I Nabuchodonosor lifted up mine eyes to heaven, and my reason returned to me, and I blessed the Most High, and praised him that lives for ever, and gave [him] glory; for his dominion is an everlasting dominion, and his kingdom [lasts] to all generations:

Al final de los días yo, Nabucodonosor, levanté mis ojos al cielo, y mi entendimiento volvió a mí; y bendije al Altísimo, y alabé y honré al que vive para siempre, porque su dominio es un dominio eterno, y su reino de generación en generación.

35 and all the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing: and he does according to his will in the army of heaven, and among the inhabitants of the earth: and there is none who shall withstand his power, and say to him, What has you done?

Todos los habitantes de la tierra son reputados como nada; y hace según su voluntad en el ejército del cielo, y entre los habitantes de la tierra; y nadie puede detener su mano, o preguntarle: “¿Qué estás haciendo?”

36 At the same time my reason returned to me, and I came to the honor of my kingdom; and my [natural] form returned to me, and my princes, and my nobles, sought me, and I was established in my kingdom, and more abundant majesty was added to me.

Al mismo tiempo, mi entendimiento volvió a mí; y por la gloria de mi reino, mi majestad y brillo volvieron a mí. Mis consejeros y mis señores me buscaron; y fui establecido en mi reino, y se me añadió una grandeza excelente.

37 Now therefore I Nabuchodonosor praise and greatly exalt and glorify the King of heaven; for all his works are true, and his paths are judgment: and all that walk in pride he is able to abase.

Ahora yo, Nabucodonosor, alabo, ensalzo y honro al Rey de los cielos; porque todas sus obras son verdades, y sus caminos, justicia; y puede abatir a los que andan con soberbia.
