Kings II 1
1 And it came to pass after Saul was dead, that David returned from striking Amalec, and David abode two days in Sekelac.
Or, il arriva, après que Saül fut mort, que David revint de la défaite d’Amalec, et qu’il demeura à Siceleg pendant deux jours.
2 And it came to pass on the third day, that, behold, a man came from the camp, from the people of Saul, and his garments were tore, and earth [was] upon his head: and it came to pass when he went in to David, that he fell upon the earth, and did obeisance to him.
Mais au troisième jour, il parut un homme, venant du camp de Saül, le vêtement déchiré et la tête couverte de poussière; et dès qu’il arriva auprès de David, il tomba sur sa face, et se prosterna.
3 And David said to him, Whence come you? and he said to him, I have escaped out of the camp of Israel.
Et David lui demanda: D’où viens-tu? Celui-ci lui répondit: Je me suis échappé du camp d’Israël.
4 And David said to him, What [is] the matter? tell me. And he said, The people fled out of the battle, and many of the people have fallen and are dead, and Saul and Jonathan his son are dead.
David lui demanda encore: Qu’est-ce qui a été fait? Apprends-le moi. Il répondit: Le peuple s’est enfui de la bataille, et beaucoup d’entre le peuple, ayant succombé, sont morts; et Saül même et Jonathas son fils ont péri.
5 And David said to the young man who brought him the tidings, How know you that Saul and Jonathan his son are dead?
Et David dit au jeune homme qui lui apportait la nouvelle: D’où sais-tu que Saül est mort, et Jonathas son fils?
6 And the young man that brought the tidings, said to him, I happened accidentally to be upon mount Gelbue; and, behold, Saul was leaning upon his spear, and, behold, the chariots and captains of horse pressed hard upon him.
Et le jeune homme qui lui apportait la nouvelle lui répondit: Je suis venu par hasard sur la montagne de Gelboé, et Saül était appuyé sur sa lance; or, les chariots et les cavaliers s’avançaient vers lui,
7 And he looked behind him, and saw me, and called me; and I said, Behold, [here am] I.
Et s’étant retourné, et me voyant, il m’a appelé. Et quand je lui eus répondu: Me voici,
8 And he said to me, Who are you? and I said, I am an Amalekite.
Il me demanda: Qui es-tu? Et je lui répondis: Je suis Amalécite.
9 And he said to me, Stand, I pray you, over me, and kill me, for a dreadful darkness has come upon me, for all my life [is] in me.
Alors il me dit: Jette-toi sur moi, et tue-moi, parce que je suis en proie aux angoisses, et que toute mon âme est encore en moi.
10 So I stood over him and killed him, because I knew he would not live after he was fallen; and I took the crown that was upon his head, and the bracelet that was upon his arm, and I have brought them hither to my lord.
Me jetant donc sur lui, je le tuai; car je savais qu’il ne pouvait pas vivre après son désastre; alors je pris le diadème qui était sur sa tête, et le bracelet de son bras, et je les apportai ici à vous, mon seigneur.
11 And David laid hold of his garments, and tore them; and all the men who were with him tore their garments.
Mais David prenant ses vêtements, les déchira; ce que firent aussi tous les hommes qui étaient avec lui.
12 And they lamented, and wept, and fasted till evening, for Saul and for Jonathan his son, and for the people of Juda, and for the house of Israel, because they were struck with the sword.
Et ils furent dans le deuil, et ils pleurèrent et ils jeûnèrent jusqu’au soir, au sujet de Saül, de Jonathas, son fils, du peuple du Seigneur et de la maison d’Israël, parce qu’ils avaient succombé au glaive.
13 And David said to the young man who brought the tidings to him, Whence are you? and he said, I am the son of an Amalekite sojourner.
Et David dit au jeune homme qui lui avait apporté la nouvelle: D’où es-tu? Il répondit: Je suis fils d’un étranger, d’un Amalécite.
14 And David said to him, How was it you were not afraid to lift your hand to destroy the anointed of the Lord?
Et David lui dit: Pourquoi n’as-tu pas craint de lever ta main, pour tuer le christ du Seigneur?
15 And David called one of his young men, and said, Go and fall upon him: and he struck him, and he died.
Et David appelant un de ses serviteurs, dit: Approche-toi, jette-toi sur lui. Le serviteur le frappa, et il mourut,
16 And David said to him, Your blood [be] upon your own head; for your mouth has testified against you, saying, I have slain the anointed of the Lord.
Et David ajouta: Ton sang sur ta tête! car ta bouche a parlé contre toi, disant: C’est moi qui ai tué le christ du Seigneur.
17 And David lamented with this lamentation over Saul and over Jonathan his son.
Alors David fit entendre cette complainte sur Saül et sur Jonathas, son fils
18 And he gave orders to teach it the sons of Juda: behold, it is written in the book of Right.
(Et il ordonna qu’on enseignât l’arc aux enfants de Juda, comme il est écrit dans le Livre des Justes), et il dit: Considère, ô Israël, ceux qui sont morts sur tes hauts lieux, couverts de blessures.
19 Set up a pillar, O Israel, for the slain that died upon your high places: how are the mighty fallen!
Les illustres, ô Israël, ont été tués sur tes montagnes: comment des forts sont-ils tombés?
20 Tell it not in Geth, and tell it not as glad tidings in the streets of Ascalon, lest the daughters of the Philistines rejoice, lest the daughters of the uncircumcised triumph.
Ne l’annoncez pas dans Geth, ne l’annoncez pas dans les carrefours d’Ascalon, de peur que les filles des Philistins ne se livrent à la joie, et que les filles des incirconcis ne bondissent d’allégresse.
21 You mountains of Gelbue, let not dew no rain descend upon you, nor fields of first fruits [be upon you], for there the shield of the mighty ones has been grievously assailed; the shield of Saul was not anointed with oil.
Montagnes de Gelboé, que ni pluie, ni rosée ne viennent sur vous: qu’il n’y ait point de champs de prémices, parce que là a été jeté un bouclier de forts, le bouclier de Saül, comme s’il n’avait pas été oint avec l’huile.
22 From the blood of the slain, and from the fat of the mighty, the bow of Jonathan returned not empty; and the sword of Saul turned not back empty.
La flèche de Jonathas n’est jamais retournée en arrière, sans avoir du sang de ceux qui ont été tués, et de la graisse des forts, et le glaive de Saül n’est pas revenu en vain.
23 Saul and Jonathan, the beloved and the beautiful, were not divided: comely [were they] in their life, and in their death they were not divided: [they were] swifter than eagles, and they were stronger than lions.
Saül et Jonathas, aimables et beaux dans leur vie, même à leur mort, n’ont pas été séparés; plus rapides que des aigles, plus forts que des lions.
24 Daughters of Israel, weep for Saul, who clothed you with scarlet together with your adorning, who added golden ornaments to your apparel.
Filles d’Israël, pleurez sur Saül, qui vous revêtait d’écarlate au milieu des délices, et vous fournissait de l’or pour votre parure.
25 How are the mighty fallen in the midst of the battle! O Jonathan, even the slain ones upon your high places!
Comment des forts sont-ils tombés dans la bataille? Jonathas a été tué sur tes hauteurs.
26 I am grieved for you, my brother Jonathan; you were very lovely to me; your love to me was wonderful beyond the love of women.
Je pleure sur toi, mon frère, Jonathas, de la plus grande beauté, aimable au-dessus de l’amour des femmes. Comme une mère aime son fils unique, ainsi moi je te chérissais.
27 How are the mighty fallen, and the weapons of war perished!
Comment des forts sont-ils tombés, et des armes guerrières ont-elles péri?
