Chronicles II 19
1 And Josaphat king of Juda returned to his house at Jerusalem.
Et Josaphat, roi de Juda, s’en retourna dans sa maison, en paix, à Jérusalem.
2 And there went out to meet him Jeu the prophet the son of Anani, and said to him, King Josaphat, do you help a sinner, or act friendly towards one hated of the Lord? Therefore has wrath come upon you from the Lord.
Et Jéhu, fils de Hanani, le voyant, sortit au-devant de lui, et dit au roi Josaphat: Aides-tu au méchant, et aimes-tu ceux qui haïssent l’Éternel? À cause de cela il y a colère sur toi de la part de l’Éternel.
3 Nevertheless [some] good things have been found in you, forasmuch as you did remove the groves from the land of Juda, and did direct your heart to seek after the Lord.
Cependant il s’est trouvé de bonnes choses en toi, car tu as ôté du pays les ashères, et tu as appliqué ton cœur à rechercher Dieu.
4 And Josaphat lived in Jerusalem: and he again went out among the people from Bersabee to the mount of Ephraim, and turned them back to the Lord God of their fathers.
Et Josaphat habita à Jérusalem. Et de nouveau il sortit parmi le peuple, depuis Beër-Shéba jusqu’à la montagne d’Éphraïm; et il les ramena à l’Éternel, le Dieu de leurs pères.
5 And he appointed judges in all the strong cities of Juda, city by city.
Et il établit des juges dans le pays, dans toutes les villes fortes de Juda, de ville en ville.
6 And he said to the judges, Take good heed what you do: for you judge not for man, but for the Lord, and with you are matters of judgment.
Et il dit aux juges: Voyez ce que vous ferez; car ce n’est pas pour l’homme que vous jugerez, mais pour l’Éternel, et il sera avec vous dans ce qui concerne le jugement.
7 And now let the fear of the Lord be upon you, and be wary, and do [your duty]: for there is no unrighteousness with the Lord our God, neither [is it for him] to respect persons, nor take bribes.
Et maintenant, que la frayeur de l’Éternel soit sur vous: prenez garde en agissant; car auprès de l’Éternel, notre Dieu, il n’y a point d’iniquité, ni acception de personnes, ni acceptation de présents.
8 Moreover Josaphat appointed in Jerusalem some of the priests, and Levites, and heads of houses of Israel, for the judgment of the Lord, and to judge the dwellers in Jerusalem.
Et à Jérusalem aussi, Josaphat établit des lévites, et des sacrificateurs, et des chefs des pères d’Israël, pour le jugement de l’Éternel et pour les procès. Et ils étaient revenus à Jérusalem.
9 And he charged them, saying, Thus shall you do in the fear of the Lord, in truth and with a perfect heart.
Et il leur commanda, disant: Vous agirez ainsi dans la crainte de l’Éternel, avec fidélité et d’un cœur parfait.
10 Whatsoever man of your brethren that dwell in their cities [shall bring] the cause that comes before you, between blood [and] blood, and between precept and commandment, and ordinances and judgments, you shall even decide for them; so they shall not sin against the Lord, and there shall not be wrath upon you, and upon your brethren: thus you shall do, and you shall not sin.
Et quelque procès qui vienne devant vous de la part de vos frères qui habitent dans leurs villes, entre sang et sang, entre loi et commandement, statuts et ordonnances, vous les avertirez afin qu’ils ne se rendent pas coupables envers l’Éternel, et qu’il n’y ait pas de la colère contre vous et contre vos frères: vous agirez ainsi, et vous ne vous rendrez pas coupables.
11 And, behold, Amarias the priest is head over you in every matter of the Lord; and Zabdias the son of Ismael is head over the house of Juda in every matter of the king; and the scribes and Levites are before you: be strong and active, and the Lord shall be with the good.
Et voici, Amaria, le principal sacrificateur, est [préposé] sur vous dans toutes les affaires de l’Éternel, et Zebadia, fils d’Ismaël, prince de la maison de Juda, dans toutes les affaires du roi; et vous avez devant vous, pour officiers, les lévites. Fortifiez-vous, et agissez, et l’Éternel sera avec l’[homme] de bien.
