Chronicles II 14
1 And Abia died with his fathers, and they buried him in the city of David; and Asa his son reigned in his stead. In the days of Asa the land of Juda had rest ten years.
Und Abia legte sich zu seinen Vätern und man begrub ihn in der Stadt Davids. Und sein Sohn Asa ward König an seiner Statt. Unter ihm hatte das Land zehn Jahre lang Ruhe.
2 And he did that which was good and right in the sight of the Lord his God.
Asa that, was in den Augen Jahwes, seines Gottes, gut und recht war.
3 And he removed the altars of the strange [gods], and the high places, and broke the pillars in pieces, and cut down the groves:
er beseitigte die fremden Altäre und die Opferhöhen, zertrümmerte die Malsteine und hieb die heiligen Bäume um.
4 and he told Juda to seek earnestly the Lord God of their fathers, and to perform the law and commandments.
Und er gebot den Judäern, sich an Jahwe, den Gott ihrer Väter, zu halten und nach dem Gesetz und Gebot zu thun.
5 And he removed from all the cities of Juda the altars and the idols, and established in quietness
Er beseitigte aus allen Städten Judas die Opferhöhen und die Sonnensäulen, und das Reich hatte unter ihm Ruhe.
6 fortified cities in the land of Juda; for the land was quiet, and he had no war in these years; for the Lord gave him rest.
Er erbaute Festungen in Juda; denn das Land hatte Ruhe, und niemand führte in jenen Jahren Krieg mit ihm, weil ihm Jahwe Ruhe verschafft hatte.
7 And he said to Juda, Let us fortify these cities, and make walls, and towers, and gates, and bars: we shall prevail over the land, for as we have sought out the Lord our God, he has sought out us, and has given us rest round about, and prospered us.
Daher sprach er zu den Judäern: Laßt uns diese Städte erbauen und mit Mauern und Türmen, mit Thoren und Riegeln umgeben. Denn noch liegt das Land offen vor uns da, weil wir uns an Jahwe, unseren Gott, gehalten haben. Wir haben uns an ihn gehalten, und er hat uns ringsum Ruhe verschafft. Und so bauten sie und hatten Gelingen.
8 And Asa had a force of armed men bearing shields and spears in the land of Juda, [even] three hundred thousand, and in the land of Benjamin two hundred and eighty thousand targeteers and archers: all these were mighty warriors.
Und Asa hatte ein Heer, das Schild und Speer trug: aus Juda 300 000 und aus Benjamin 280 000, die Tartschen trugen und den Bogen spannten, - lauter tapfere Krieger.
9 And Zare the Ethiopian went out against them, with a force of a million, and three hundred chariots; and came to Maresa.
Es zog aber gegen sie der Kuschit Serah zu Felde mit einem Heere von einer Million Kriegern und dreihundert Wagen und gelangte bis Maresa.
10 And Asa went out to meet him, and set the battle in array in the valley north of Maresa.
Da zog Asa aus ihm entgegen, und sie stellten sich im Thale Zephatha bei Maresa in Schlachtordnung.
11 And Asa cried to the Lord his God, and said, O Lord, it is not impossible with you to save by many or by few: strengthen us, O Lord our God; for we trust in you, and in your name have we come against this great multitude. O Lord our God, let not man prevail against you.
Und Asa rief Jahwe, seinen Gott, an und betete: Jahwe, nur du kannst helfen in dem Streite zwischen einem Mächtigen und einem Ohnmächtigen. Hilf uns, Jahwe, unser Gott! Denn auf dich stützen wir uns und in deinem Namen sind wir gegen diesen Völkerhaufen in den Kampf gezogen. Jahwe, du bist unser Gott; dir gegenüber kann sich kein Sterblicher behaupten!
12 And the Lord struck the Ethiopians before Juda; and the Ethiopians fled.
Und Jahwe schlug die Kuschiten vor Asa und vor den Judäern, so daß die Kuschiten flohen.
13 And Asa and his people pursued them to Gedor; and the Ethiopians fell, so that they could not recover themselves; for they were crushed before the Lord, and before his host; and they took many spoils.
Asa aber und die Krieger, die er bei sich hatte, verfolgten sie bis Gerar, und es fielen von den Kuschiten so viele, daß ihrer keiner am Leben blieb; denn sie wurden zerschmettert vor Jahwe und seinem Heer. Und sie trugen ungeheure Beute davon
14 And they destroyed their towns roundabout Gedor; for a terror of the Lord was upon them: and they spoiled all their cities, for they had much spoil.
und überwältigten alle die Städte rings um Gerar; denn der Schrecken Jahwes war über sie gekommen. Und so plünderten sie alle diese Städte; denn es gab viel darin zu plündern.
15 Also they destroyed the tents of cattle, and the Alimazons, and took many sheep and camels, and returned to Jerusalem.
Auch die Zelte mit den Viehherden überwältigen sie und führten Schafe in Menge und Kamele als Beute von dannen und kehrten zurück nach Jerusalem.
