Chronicles II 10
1 And Roboam came to Sychem: for all Israel came to Sychem to make him king.
Roboamo andò a Sichem, perché tutto Israele era venuto a Sichem per farlo re.
2 And it came to pass when Jeroboam the son of Nabat heard [it], (now he was in Egypt, forasmuch as he had fled there from the face of king Solomon, and Jeroboam lived in Egypt, ) that Jeroboam returned out of Egypt.
Quando Geroboamo, figliuolo di Nebat, ebbe di ciò notizia, si trovava ancora in Egitto, dov’era fuggito per scampare dal re Salomone; e tornò dall’Egitto.
3 And they sent and called him: and Jeroboam and all the congregation came to Roboam, saying,
Lo mandarono a chiamare, e Geroboamo e tutto Israele vennero a parlare a Roboamo, e gli dissero:
4 Your father made our yoke grievous: now then abate [somewhat] of your father's grievous rule, and of his heavy yoke which he put upon us, and we will serve you.
“Tuo padre ha reso duro il nostro giogo; ora rendi tu più lieve la dura servitù e il giogo pesante che tuo padre ci ha imposti, e noi ti serviremo”. Ed egli rispose loro:
5 And he said to them, Go away for three days, and [then] come to me. So the people departed.
“Tornate da me fra tre giorni”. E il popolo se ne andò.
6 And king Roboam assembled the elders that stood before his father Solomon in his life-time, saying, How do you counsel [me] to return an answer to this people?
Il re Roboamo si consigliò coi vecchi ch’erano stati al servizio del re Salomone suo padre mentre era vivo, e disse: “Che mi consigliate voi di rispondere a questo popolo?”
7 And they spoke to him, saying, If you would this day befriend this people, and be kind to them, and speak to them good words, then will they be your servants for ever.
E quelli gli parlarono così: “Se ti mostri benevolo verso questo popolo, e gli compiaci, e se gli parli con bontà, ti sarà servo per sempre”.
8 But he forsook the advice of the old men, who took counsel with him, and he took counsel with the young men who had been brought up with him, who stood before him.
Ma Roboamo abbandonò il consiglio datogli dai vecchi, e si consigliò coi giovani ch’eran cresciuti con lui ed erano stati al suo servizio,
9 And he said to them, What do you advise that I should answer this people, who spoke to me, saying, Ease [somewhat] of the yoke which your father laid upon us?
e disse loro: “Come consigliate voi che rispondiamo a questo popolo che m’ha parlato dicendo: Allevia il giogo che tuo padre ci ha imposto?”
10 And the young men that had been brought up with him spoke to him, saying, Thus shall you speak to the people that spoke to you, saying, Your father made our yoke heavy, and do you lighten [somewhat of it] from us; thus shall you say, My little finger [shall be] thicker than my father's loins.
E i giovani ch’eran cresciuti con lui gli parlarono così: “Ecco quel che dirai a questo popolo che s’è rivolto a te dicendo: Tuo padre ha reso pesante il nostro giogo, e tu ce lo allevia! Gli risponderai così: Il mio dito mignolo è più grosso del corpo di mio padre;
11 And whereas my father chastised you with a heavy yoke, I will also add to your yoke: my father chastised you with whips, and I will chastise you with scorpions.
ora, mio padre vi ha caricati d’un giogo pesante, ma io lo renderò più pesante ancora; mio padre vi ha castigati con la frusta, e io vi castigherò coi flagelli a punte”.
12 And Jeroboam and all the people came to Roboam on the third day, as the king had spoken, saying, Return to me on the third day.
Tre giorni dopo, Geroboamo e tutto il popolo vennero da Roboamo, come aveva ordinato il re dicendo: “Tornate da me fra tre giorni”.
13 And the king answered harshly; and king Roboam forsook the counsel of the old men,
E il re rispose loro duramente, abbandonando il consiglio che i vecchi gli aveano dato;
14 and spoke to them according to the counsel of the young men, saying, My father made your yoke heavy, but I will add to it: my father chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions.
e parlò loro secondo il consiglio de’ giovani, dicendo: “Mio padre ha reso pesante il vostro giogo, ma io lo renderò più pesante ancora; mio padre vi ha castigati con la frusta, e io vi castigherò coi flagelli a punte”.
15 And the king listened not to the people, for there was a change [of their minds] from God, saying, The Lord has confirmed his word, which he spoke by the hand of Achia the Selonite concerning Jeroboam the son of Nabat, and [concerning] all Israel;
Così il re non diede ascolto al popolo; perché questa era cosa diretta da Dio, affinché si adempisse la parola che l’Eterno avea pronunziata per mezzo di Ahija di Scilo a Geroboamo, figliuolo di Nebat.
16 for the king did not listen to them. And the people answered the king, saying, What portion have we in David, or inheritance in the son of Jessae? to your tents, O Israel: now see to your own house, David. So all Israel went to their tents.
E quando tutto Israele vide che il re non gli dava ascolto, rispose al re, dicendo: “Che abbiam noi da fare con Davide? Noi non abbiamo nulla di comune col figliuolo d’Isai! Ognuno alle sue tende, o Israele! Provvedi ora alla tua casa, o Davide!” E tutto Israele se ne andò alle sue tende.
17 But the men of Israel, even those who lived in the cities of Juda, [remained] and made Roboam king over them.
Ma sui figliuoli d’Israele che abitavano nelle città di Giuda, regnò Roboamo.
18 And king Roboam sent to them Adoniram that was over the tribute; and the children of Israel stoned him with stones, and he died. And king Roboam hasted to mount [his] chariot, to flee to Jerusalem.
E il re Roboamo mandò loro Adoram, preposto ai tributi; ma i figliuoli d’Israele lo lapidarono ed egli morì. E il re Roboamo salì in fretta sopra un carro per fuggire a Gerusalemme.
19 So Israel rebelled against the house of David until this day.
Così Israele si ribellò alla casa di Davide, ed e rimasto ribelle fino al dì d’oggi.
