Kings III 19
1 And Achaab told Jezabel his wife all that Eliu [had] done, and how he [had] slain the prophets with the sword.
Und Ahab sagte Isebel an alles was Elia getan hatte, und wie er hätte alle Propheten Baals mit dem Schwert erwürget.
2 And Jezabel sent to Eliu, and said, If you are Eliu and I am Jezabel, God do so to me, and more also, if I do not make your life by this time to-morrow as the life of one of them.
Da sandte Isebel einen Boten zu Elia und ließ ihm sagen: Die Götter tun mir dies und das, wo ich nicht morgen um diese Zeit deiner Seele tue wie dieser Seelen einer!
3 And Eliu feared, and rose, and departed for his life: and he comes to Bersabee [to] the land of Juda, and he left his servant there.
Da er das sah, machte er sich auf und ging, wo er hin wollte, und kam gen Berseba in Juda und ließ seinen Knaben daselbst.
4 And he himself went a day's journey in the wilderness, and came and sat under a juniper tree; and asked concerning his life that he might die, and said, Let it be enough now, O Lord, take, I pray you, my life from me; for I am no better than my fathers.
Er aber ging hin in die Wüste eine Tagreise; und kam hinein und setzte sich unter einen Wacholder und bat, daß seine Seele stürbe, und sprach: Es ist genug; nimm nun, HERR, meine Seele! Ich bin nicht besser denn meine Väter.
5 And he lay down and slept there under a tree; and behold, some one touched him, and said to him, Arise and eat.
Und legte sich und schlief unter dem Wacholder. Und siehe, der Engel rührete ihn und sprach zu ihm: Stehe auf und iß!
6 And Eliu looked, and, behold, at his head there was a cake of meal and a cruse of water; and he arose, and ate and drank, and returned and lay down.
Und er sah sich um, und siehe, zu seinen Häupten lag ein geröstet Brot und eine Kanne mit Wasser. Und da er gegessen und getrunken hatte, legte er sich wieder schlafen.
7 And the angel of the Lord returned again, and touched him, and said to him, Arise, and eat, for the journey [is] far from you.
Und der Engel des HERRN kam zum andernmal wieder und rührete ihn und sprach: Stehe auf und iß; denn du hast einen großen Weg vor dir.
8 And he arose, and ate and drank, and went in the strength of that meat forty days and forty nights to mount Choreb.
Und er stund auf und aß und trank; und ging durch Kraft derselben Speise vierzig Tage und vierzig Nächte bis an den Berg Gottes Horeb.
9 And he entered there into a cave, and rested there; and, behold, the word of the Lord [came] to him, and he said, What [do] you here, Eliu?
Und kam daselbst in eine Höhle und blieb daselbst über Nacht. Und siehe, das Wort des HERRN kam zu ihm und sprach zu ihm: Was machst du hie, Elia?
10 And Eliu said, I have been very jealous for the Lord Almighty, because the children of Israel have forsaken you: they have digged down your altars, and have slain your prophets with the sword; and I only am left alone, and they seek my life to take it.
Er sprach: Ich habe geeifert um den HERRN, den Gott Zeboath; denn die Kinder Israel haben deinen Bund verlassen und deine Altäre zerbrochen und deine Propheten mit dem Schwert erwürget; und ich bin allein überblieben, und sie stehen danach, daß sie mir mein Leben nehmen.
11 And he said, You shall go forth to-morrow, and shall stand before the Lord in the mount; behold, the Lord will pass by. And, behold, a great [and] strong wind rending the mountains, and crushing the rocks before the Lord; [but] the Lord [was] not in the wind; and after the wind an earthquake; [but] the Lord [was] not in the earthquake:
Er sprach: Gehe heraus und tritt auf den Berg vor den HERRN. Und siehe, der HERR ging vorüber, und ein großer, starker Wind, der die Berge zerriß und die Felsen zerbrach, vor dem HERRN her; der HERR aber war nicht im Winde. Nach dem Winde aber kam ein Erdbeben; aber der HERR war nicht im Erdbeben.
12 and after the earthquake a fire; [but] the Lord [was] not in the fire: and after the fire the voice of a gentle breeze.
Und nach dem Erdbeben kam ein Feuer; aber der HERR war nicht im Feuer. Und nach dem Feuer kam ein still sanftes Sausen.
13 And it came to pass when Eliu heard, that he wrapt his face in his mantle, and went forth and stood in the cave: and, behold, a voice [came] to him and said, What [do] you here, Eliu?
Da das Elia hörete, verhüllete er sein Antlitz mit seinem Mantel und ging heraus und trat in die Tür der Höhle. Und siehe, da kam eine Stimme zu ihm und sprach: Was hast du hie zu tun, Elia?
14 And Eliu said, I have been very jealous for the Lord Almighty; for the children of Israel have forsaken your covenant, and they have overthrown your altars, and have slain your prophets with the sword! and I am left entirely alone, and they seek my life to take it.
Er sprach: Ich habe um den HERRN, den Gott Zebaoth, geeifert; denn die Kinder Israel haben deinen Bund verlassen, deine Altäre zerbrochen, deine Propheten mit dem Schwert erwürget; und ich bin allein überblieben, und sie stehen danach, daß sie mir das Leben nehmen.
15 And the Lord said to him, Go, return, and you shall come into the way of the wilderness of Damascus: and you shall go and anoint Azael to be king over Syria.
Aber der HERR sprach zu ihm: Gehe wiederum deines Weges durch die Wüste gen Damaskus; und geh hinein und salbe Hasael zum Könige über Syrien
16 And Ju the son of Namessi shall you anoint to be king over Israel; and Elisaie the son of Saphat shall you anoint to be prophet in your room.
und Jehu, den Sohn Nimsis, zum Könige über Israel und Elisa, den Sohn Saphats, von Abel-Mehola, zum Propheten an deiner Statt.
17 And it shall come to pass, that him that escapes from the sword of Azael, Ju shall kill; and him that escapes from the sword of Ju, Elisaie shall kill.
Und soll geschehen, daß, wer dem Schwert Hasaels entrinnet, den soll Jehu töten, und wer dem Schwert Jehus entrinnet den soll Elisa töten.
18 And you shall leave in Israel seven thousand men, all the knees which had not bowed themselves to Baal, and every mouth which had not worshipped him.
Und ich will lassen überbleiben siebentausend in Israel, nämlich alle Kniee, die sich nicht gebeuget haben vor Baal, und allen Mund, der ihn nicht geküsset hat.
19 And he departed thence, and finds Elisaie the son of Saphat, and he was plowing with oxen; [there were] twelve yoke before him, and he with the twelve, and he passed by to him, and cast his mantle upon him.
Und er ging von dannen und fand Elisa, den Sohn Saphats, daß er pflügete mit zwölf Jochen vor sich hin; und er war selbst unter den Zwölfen. Und Elia ging zu ihm und warf seinen Mantel auf ihn.
20 And Elisaie left the cattle, and ran after Eliu and said, I will kiss my father, and follow after you. And Eliu said, Return, for I have done [a work] for you.
Er aber ließ die Rinder und lief Elia nach und sprach: Laß mich meinen Vater und meine Mutter küssen, so will ich dir nachfolgen. Er sprach zu ihm: Gehe hin und komm wieder; denn ich habe etwas mit dir zu tun.
21 And he returned from following him, and took a yoke of oxen, and killed them, and boiled them with the instruments of the oxen, and gave to the people, and they ate: and he arose, and went after Eliu, and ministered to him.
Und er lief wieder von ihm und nahm ein Joch Rinder und opferte es; und kochte das Fleisch mit dem Holzwerk an den Rindern und gab's dem Volk, daß sie aßen. Und machte sich auf und folgte Elia nach und dienete ihm.
