Kings III 19
1 And Achaab told Jezabel his wife all that Eliu [had] done, and how he [had] slain the prophets with the sword.
Als nun Ahab der Isebel alles erzählte, was Elia gethan, und wie er sämtliche Propheten mit dem Schwerte getötet hatte,
2 And Jezabel sent to Eliu, and said, If you are Eliu and I am Jezabel, God do so to me, and more also, if I do not make your life by this time to-morrow as the life of one of them.
da sandte Isebel einen Boten an Elia und ließ ihm sagen: Mögen mir die Götter anthun, was sie wollen: ja, morgen um diese Zeit will ich mit deinem Leben verfahren, wie mit dem Leben eines jeden von ihnen geschehen ist!
3 And Eliu feared, and rose, and departed for his life: and he comes to Bersabee [to] the land of Juda, and he left his servant there.
Da fürchtete er sich, brach auf und ging davon, um sein Leben zu retten. Als er aber nach Beerseba gelangt war, das zu Juda gehört, ließ er seinen Diener daselbst.
4 And he himself went a day's journey in the wilderness, and came and sat under a juniper tree; and asked concerning his life that he might die, and said, Let it be enough now, O Lord, take, I pray you, my life from me; for I am no better than my fathers.
Er aber ging hinein in die Wüste, eine Tagereise weit, kam und setzte sich unter einen Ginsterstrauch. Da wünschte er sich den Tod und sprach: Es ist genug! Nimm nunmehr, Jahwe, mein Leben hin, denn ich bin nicht besser als meine Väter!
5 And he lay down and slept there under a tree; and behold, some one touched him, and said to him, Arise and eat.
Hierauf legte er sich nieder unter einem Ginsterstrauch und schlief ein. Da mit einem Male rührte ihn ein Engel an und sprach zu ihm: Stehe auf und iß!
6 And Eliu looked, and, behold, at his head there was a cake of meal and a cruse of water; and he arose, and ate and drank, and returned and lay down.
Und als er hinblickte, da fand sich zu seinen Häupten ein gerösteter Brotfladen und ein Krug mit Wasser. Da aß und trank er und legte sich sodann wieder schlafen.
7 And the angel of the Lord returned again, and touched him, and said to him, Arise, and eat, for the journey [is] far from you.
Aber der Engel Jahwes kam zum zweiten Male wieder, rührte ihn an und sprach: Stehe auf und iß, sonst ist der Weg für dich zu weit!
8 And he arose, and ate and drank, and went in the strength of that meat forty days and forty nights to mount Choreb.
Da stand er auf, aß und trank und wanderte vermöge der Kraft, die diese Speise wirkte, vierzig Tage und vierzig Nächte hindurch bis zum Gottesberge Horeb;
9 And he entered there into a cave, and rested there; and, behold, the word of the Lord [came] to him, and he said, What [do] you here, Eliu?
dort aber trat er in eine Höhle ein und blieb daselbst über Nacht. Da nun erging das Wort Jahwes, und er sprach zu ihm: Was willst du hier, Elia?
10 And Eliu said, I have been very jealous for the Lord Almighty, because the children of Israel have forsaken you: they have digged down your altars, and have slain your prophets with the sword; and I only am left alone, and they seek my life to take it.
Er antwortete: Geeifert habe ich für Jahwe, den Gott der Heerscharen; denn die Israeliten haben deine Verordnungen außer Acht gelassen, deine Altäre niedergerissen und deine Propheten mit dem Schwerte getötet, so daß ich allein übrig geblieben bin, und sie trachten darnach, mir das Leben zu nehmen!
11 And he said, You shall go forth to-morrow, and shall stand before the Lord in the mount; behold, the Lord will pass by. And, behold, a great [and] strong wind rending the mountains, and crushing the rocks before the Lord; [but] the Lord [was] not in the wind; and after the wind an earthquake; [but] the Lord [was] not in the earthquake:
Da sprach er: gehe hinaus und tritt auf den Berg vor Jahwe! Jahwe aber zog an der Höhle vorüber, und ein großer und heftiger Sturmwind, der Berge zerriß und Felsen zerschmetterte, ging Jahwe voran; Jahwe aber war nicht in dem Sturmwind. Nach dem Sturmwind aber kam ein Erdbeben; Jahwe war nicht in dem Erdbeben.
12 and after the earthquake a fire; [but] the Lord [was] not in the fire: and after the fire the voice of a gentle breeze.
Und nach dem Erdbeben kam ein Feuer; Jahwe war nicht in dem Feuer. Nach dem Feuer aber ließ sich ein sanftes Säuseln vernehmen.
13 And it came to pass when Eliu heard, that he wrapt his face in his mantle, and went forth and stood in the cave: and, behold, a voice [came] to him and said, What [do] you here, Eliu?
Als Elia das hörte, verhüllte er sein Antlitz mit seinem Mantel, ging heraus und trat an den Eingang der Höhle; da redete ihn eine Stimme an und sprach: Was willst du hier, Elia?
14 And Eliu said, I have been very jealous for the Lord Almighty; for the children of Israel have forsaken your covenant, and they have overthrown your altars, and have slain your prophets with the sword! and I am left entirely alone, and they seek my life to take it.
Er antwortete: Geeifert habe ich für Jahwe, den Gott der Heerscharen, denn die Israeliten haben deine Verordnungen außer Acht gelassen, deine Altäre niedergerissen und deine Propheten mit dem Schwerte getötet, so daß ich allein übrig geblieben bin; und sie trachten darnach, mir das Leben zu nehmen.
15 And the Lord said to him, Go, return, and you shall come into the way of the wilderness of Damascus: and you shall go and anoint Azael to be king over Syria.
Jahwe aber sprach zu ihm: gehe wiederum deines Wegs, nach der Wüste von Damaskus, und begieb dich hinein und salbe Hasael zum König über Aram.
16 And Ju the son of Namessi shall you anoint to be king over Israel; and Elisaie the son of Saphat shall you anoint to be prophet in your room.
Jehu aber, den Sohn Nimsis, salbe zum König über Israel, und Elisa, den Sohn Saphats, von Abel Mehola, salbe zum Propheten an deiner Statt.
17 And it shall come to pass, that him that escapes from the sword of Azael, Ju shall kill; and him that escapes from the sword of Ju, Elisaie shall kill.
Und es soll geschehen: wer dem Schwert Hasaels entrinnt, den wird Jehu töten, und wer dem Schwerte Jehus entrinnt, den wird Elisa töten.
18 And you shall leave in Israel seven thousand men, all the knees which had not bowed themselves to Baal, and every mouth which had not worshipped him.
Doch will ich in Israel siebentausend übrig bleiben lassen, nämlich alle die Kniee, die sich nicht vor dem Baal gebeugt haben, und jeglichen Mund, der ihn nicht geküßt hat!
19 And he departed thence, and finds Elisaie the son of Saphat, and he was plowing with oxen; [there were] twelve yoke before him, and he with the twelve, and he passed by to him, and cast his mantle upon him.
Als er nun von dannen ging, traf er auf Elisa, den Sohn Saphats; der war gerade mit Pflügen beschäftigt: zwölf Rinderpaare waren vor ihm, und er selbst befand sich bei dem zwölften. Da ging Elia zu ihm hinüber und warf seinen Mantel auf ihn.
20 And Elisaie left the cattle, and ran after Eliu and said, I will kiss my father, and follow after you. And Eliu said, Return, for I have done [a work] for you.
Er aber verließ die Rinder, eilte Elia nach und bat: Laß mich zuvor noch meinen Vater und meine Mutter küssen, dann will ich dir nachfolgen! Er antwortete ihm: Geh noch einmal hin, doch bedenke, was ich dir gethan habe!
21 And he returned from following him, and took a yoke of oxen, and killed them, and boiled them with the instruments of the oxen, and gave to the people, and they ate: and he arose, and went after Eliu, and ministered to him.
Da verließ er ihn und ging noch einmal zurück, nahm das Rinderpaar und schlachtete es; mit dem Geschirre der Rinder aber kochte er ihr Fleisch und gab's den Leuten, daß sie aßen. Sodann brach er auf und folgte Elia nach und ward sein Diener.
