< Chronicles I 10 >
1 Now the Philistines warred against Israel; and they fled from before the Philistines, and fell down slain in mount Gelbue.
Pea ko eni, naʻe fai ʻae tau ʻe he kakai Filisitia ki ʻIsileli; pea naʻe feholaki ʻae kau tangata ʻo ʻIsileli mei he ʻao ʻoe kakai Filisitia, pea naʻa nau tō hifo ʻo lavea ʻi he moʻunga ko Kilipoa.
2 And the Philistines pursued after Saul, and after his sons; and the Philistines struck Jonathan, and Aminadab, and Melchisue, sons of Saul.
Pea naʻe tuli mālohi ʻe he kakai Filisitia kia Saula pea mo hono ngaahi foha; pea naʻe tāmateʻi ʻe he kakai Filisitia ʻa Sonatane, mo ʻApinatapi, mo Malikisua, ko e ngaahi foha ʻo Saula.
3 And the battle prevailed against Saul, and the archers hit him with bows and arrows, and they were wounded of the bows.
Pea naʻe mālohi lahi ʻae tau kia Saula, pea naʻe fanaʻi ia ʻe he kau toʻo meʻa fana, pea naʻe lavea ia ʻe he kau tangata fana.
4 And Saul said to his armor-bearer, Draw your sword, and pierce me through with it, lest these uncircumcised come and mock me. But his armor-bearer would not, for he was greatly afraid: so Saul took a sword, and fell upon it.
5 And his armor-bearer saw that Saul was dead, and he also fell upon his sword.
Pea ʻi heʻene sio ʻe hono tangata toʻo mahafutau kuo mate ʻa Saula, naʻa ne hinga foki ia ki he heletā, mone mate ai.
6 So Saul died, and his three sons on that day, and all his family died at the same time.
Ko ia, naʻe mate ʻa Saula, pea mo hono ngaahi foha ʻe toko tolu, pea mate fakataha mo hono fale kotoa pē.
7 And all the men of Israel that were in the valley saw that Israel fled, and that Saul and his sons were dead, and they left their cities, and fled: and the Philistines came and lived in them.
Pea ʻi heʻene sio ʻe he kau tangata ʻIsileli kotoa pē ʻakinautolu naʻe ʻi he potu talalo, ki heʻenau feholaki, pea kuo mate ʻa Saula pea mo hono ngaahi foha, naʻa nau toki liʻaki honau ngaahi kolo, mo nau hola: pea naʻe haʻu ʻae kakai Filisitia mo nofo atu ki ai.
8 And it came to pass on the next [day] that the Philistines came to strip the slain, and they found Saul and his sons fallen on mount Gelbue.
Pea ʻi heʻene hoko ki he pongipongi naʻe feholoi, ʻi heʻene ʻalu ange ʻae kakai Filisitia ke vete ʻae ngaahi kofu mei he kakai mate, naʻa nau ʻilo ʻa Saula pea mo hono ngaahi foha kuo tō hifo ʻi he moʻunga ko Kilipoa.
9 And they stripped him, and took his head, and his armor, and sent them into the land of the Philistines round about, to proclaim the glad tidings to their idols, and to the people.
Pea ʻosi ʻenau fakatelefuaʻi ia, naʻa nau toʻo ʻa hono ʻulu, mo hono mahafu, mo nau fekau atu ki he fonua ʻoe kakai Filisitia ʻi he potu fulipē, ke fanongonongo hono tala ki honau ngaahi tamapua, pea mo e kakai.
10 And they put their armor in the house of their god, and they put his head in the house of Dagon.
Pea naʻa nau tuku ʻa hono mahafu ki he fale ʻo honau ngaahi ʻotua, mo nau tautau ʻa hono ʻulu ʻi he fale tapu ʻo Takoni.
11 And all the dwellers in Galaad heard of all that the Philistines had done to Saul and to Israel.
Pea ʻi heʻene ongo atu ki Sepesi-Kiliati kotoa pē ʻae meʻa kotoa pē naʻe fai kia Saula ʻe he kakai Filisitia,
12 And all the mighty men rose up from Galaad, and they took the body of Saul, and the bodies of his sons, and brought them to Jabis, and buried their bones under the oak in Jabis, and fasted seven days.
Naʻa nau tuʻu hake, ʻae kau tangata toʻa kotoa pē, ʻonau ʻave ʻae sino ʻo Saula, mo e sino ʻo hono ngaahi foha, mo nau ʻomi ia ki Sepesi, pea naʻa nau tanu ʻa honau ngaahi hui ʻi he lolo ʻoke ʻi Sepesi, pea [naʻa nau ]ʻaukai ʻi he ʻaho ʻe fitu.
13 So Saul died for his transgressions, wherein he transgressed against God, against the word of the Lord, forasmuch as he kept [it] not, because Saul enquired of a wizard to seek [counsel], and Samuel the prophet answered him:
Ko ia, naʻe mate ʻa Saula koeʻuhi ko ʻene angahala ʻaia naʻa ne fai angahala ai kia Sihova, mo ʻene talangataʻa ai ki he folofola ʻa Sihova, ʻaia naʻe ʻikai te ne fai ki ai, pea koeʻuhi foki ko ʻene fakafehuʻi ki ha taha naʻe kau mo e laumālie kovi ke fakaongo ki ai:
14 and he sought not the Lord: so he killed him, and turned the kingdom to David the son of Jesse.
ʻO ʻikai fakaongo ia kia Sihova: ko ia naʻa ne tāmateʻi ai ia, mo ne fakafoki atu ʻae puleʻanga kia Tevita ko e foha ʻo Sese.
