Romans 9
1 I say the truth in Christ, I lie not, my conscience also bearing me witness in the Holy Ghost,
Digo a verdade em Cristo, não minto, e minha consciência dá testemunho comigo pelo Espírito Santo,
2 That I have great heaviness and continual sorrow in my heart.
de que tenho grande tristeza e contínuo tormento em meu coração.
3 For I could wish that myself were accursed from Christ for my brethren, my kinsmen according to the flesh:
Porque desejaria eu mesmo ser separado de Cristo em proveito dos meus irmãos, que são meus parentes segundo a carne;
4 Who are Israelites; to whom [pertaineth] the adoption, and the glory, and the covenants, and the giving of the law, and the service [of God], and the promises;
que são israelitas, e a quem pertencem a adoção como filhos, a glória, os pactos, a Lei, o culto, e as promessas;
5 Whose [are] the fathers, and of whom as concerning the flesh Christ [came], who is over all, God blessed for ever. Amen. (aiōn g165)
deles são os patriarcas, e deles, quanto à carne, é Cristo, que é sobre todos, Deus bendito eternamente, Amém! (aiōn g165)
6 Not as though the word of God hath taken none effect. For they [are] not all Israel, which are of Israel:
Não que a palavra de Deus tenha falhado; porque nem todos os que são de Israel são [verdadeiros] israelitas.
7 Neither, because they are the seed of Abraham, [are they] all children: but, In Isaac shall thy seed be called.
Nem por serem descendentes de Abraão são todos filhos, mas: “Em Isaque será chamada a tua descendência”.
8 That is, They which are the children of the flesh, these [are] not the children of God: but the children of the promise are counted for the seed.
Isto é, não são os filhos da carne que são os filhos de Deus; mas sim os filhos da promessa que são contados como descendência.
9 For this [is] the word of promise, At this time will I come, and Sara shall have a son.
Pois esta é a palavra da promessa: Aproximadamente a este tempo virei, e Sara terá um filho.
10 And not only [this]; but when Rebecca also had conceived by one, [even] by our father Isaac;
E não somente isso, mas também Rebeca, quando esteve grávida por intermédio de um só, Isaque, nosso ancestral
11 (For [the children] being not yet born, neither having done any good or evil, that the purpose of God according to election might stand, not of works, but of him that calleth; )
(pois, como não eram ainda nascidos, não haviam feito bem ou mal, para que o propósito de Deus, segundo a escolha, continuasse; não pelas obras, mas por causa daquele que chama),
12 It was said unto her, The elder shall serve the younger.
foi dito a ela: O mais velho servirá o mais jovem;
13 As it is written, Jacob have I loved, but Esau have I hated.
como está escrito: “Amei Jacó, mas odiei Esaú”.
14 What shall we say then? [Is there] unrighteousness with God? God forbid.
Que diremos, então? Que há injustiça da parte de Deus? De maneira nenhuma!
15 For he saith to Moses, I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion.
Pois ele diz a Moisés: “Terei misericórdia de quem eu tiver misericórdia, e me compadecerei de quem eu me compadecer”.
16 So then [it is] not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that sheweth mercy.
Portanto, não [depende] daquele que quer, nem daquele que se esforça, mas sim, de Deus, que se compadece.
17 For the scripture saith unto Pharaoh, Even for this same purpose have I raised thee up, that I might shew my power in thee, and that my name might be declared throughout all the earth.
Pois a Escritura diz a Faraó: “Para isto mesmo te levantei: para mostrar em ti o meu poder, e para que o meu nome seja anunciado em toda a terra”.
18 Therefore hath he mercy on whom he will [have mercy], and whom he will he hardeneth.
Portanto, ele tem misericórdia de quem quer, e endurece a quem quer.
19 Thou wilt say then unto me, Why doth he yet find fault? For who hath resisted his will?
Tu, então, me dirás: “Por que ele ainda se queixa? Pois quem resiste à sua vontade?”
20 Nay but, O man, who art thou that repliest against God? Shall the thing formed say to him that formed [it], Why hast thou made me thus?
Mas antes, quem és tu, ó, humano, para questionares a Deus? Por acaso a coisa formada dirá ao que a formou: “Por que me fizeste assim?”
21 Hath not the potter power over the clay, of the same lump to make one vessel unto honour, and another unto dishonour?
Ou não tem o oleiro poder sobre o barro, para da mesma massa fazer um vaso para honra, e outro para desonra?
22 [What] if God, willing to shew [his] wrath, and to make his power known, endured with much longsuffering the vessels of wrath fitted to destruction:
E se Deus, querendo mostrar a [sua] ira, e dar a conhecer o seu poder, suportou com muita paciência os vasos da ira, preparados para a perdição,
23 And that he might make known the riches of his glory on the vessels of mercy, which he had afore prepared unto glory,
a fim de fazer conhecidas as riquezas da sua glória nos vasos da misericórdia, que preparou com antecedência para a glória,
24 Even us, whom he hath called, not of the Jews only, but also of the Gentiles?
que somos nós, aos quais ele chamou, não somente dentre os judeus, mas também dentre os gentios?
25 As he saith also in Osee, I will call them my people, which were not my people; and her beloved, which was not beloved.
Como também diz em Oseias: “Ao que era Não-Meu-Povo, chamarei de Meu-Povo; e a que não era Não-Amada, [chamarei] de Amada”.
26 And it shall come to pass, [that] in the place where it was said unto them, Ye [are] not my people; there shall they be called the children of the living God.
E será que, no lugar onde lhes foi dito: “Vós não sois meu povo, Aí serão chamados filhos do Deus vivo”.
27 Esaias also crieth concerning Israel, Though the number of the children of Israel be as the sand of the sea, a remnant shall be saved:
Também Isaías clama acerca de Israel: “Ainda que o número dos filhos de Israel seja como a areia do mar, [apenas] o remanescente será salvo;
28 For he will finish the work, and cut [it] short in righteousness: because a short work will the Lord make upon the earth.
porque o Senhor concluirá e executará brevemente a sentença sobre a terra”.
29 And as Esaias said before, Except the Lord of Sabaoth had left us a seed, we had been as Sodoma, and been made like unto Gomorrha.
E como Isaías predisse: “Se o Senhor dos Exércitos não houvesse nos deixado descendência, nós nos teríamos tornado como Sodoma, e como Gomorra teríamos sido semelhantes”.
30 What shall we say then? That the Gentiles, which followed not after righteousness, have attained to righteousness, even the righteousness which is of faith.
Então, que diremos? Que os gentios, que não buscavam a justiça, alcançaram a justiça, mas a justiça que é pela fé;
31 But Israel, which followed after the law of righteousness, hath not attained to the law of righteousness.
porém, Israel, que buscava a Lei da justiça, não alcançou a Lei
32 Wherefore? Because [they sought it] not by faith, but as it were by the works of the law. For they stumbled at that stumblingstone;
Por quê? Porque não [a buscavam] pela fé, mas sim, como que pelas obras. Tropeçaram na pedra de tropeço,
33 As it is written, Behold, I lay in Sion a stumblingstone and rock of offence: and whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.
como está escrito: “Eis que ponho em Sião uma pedra de tropeço, e uma rocha que causa queda; e aquele que nela crer não será envergonhado”.
