< Psalms 45 >
1 To the chief Musician upon Shoshannim, for the sons of Korah, Maschil, A Song of loves. My heart is inditing a good matter: I speak of the things which I have made touching the king: my tongue [is] the pen of a ready writer.
For the end, for alternate [strains] by the sons of Core; for instruction, a Song concerning the beloved. My heart has uttered a good matter: I declare my works to the king: my tongue is the pen of a quick writer.
2 Thou art fairer than the children of men: grace is poured into thy lips: therefore God hath blessed thee for ever.
You are more beautiful than the sons of men: grace has been shed forth on your lips: therefore God has blessed you for ever.
3 Gird thy sword upon [thy] thigh, O [most] mighty, with thy glory and thy majesty.
Gird your sword upon your thigh, O Mighty One, in your comeliness, and in your beauty;
4 And in thy majesty ride prosperously because of truth and meekness [and] righteousness; and thy right hand shall teach thee terrible things.
and bend [your bow], and prosper, and reign, because of truth and meekness and righteousness; and your right hand shall guide you wonderfully.
5 Thine arrows [are] sharp in the heart of the king’s enemies; [whereby] the people fall under thee.
Your weapons are sharpened, Mighty One, (the nations shall fall under you) [they are] in the heart of the king's enemies.
6 Thy throne, O God, [is] for ever and ever: the sceptre of thy kingdom [is] a right sceptre.
Your throne, O God, is for ever and ever: the sceptre of your kingdom is a sceptre of righteousness.
7 Thou lovest righteousness, and hatest wickedness: therefore God, thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows.
You have loved righteousness, and hated iniquity: therefore God, your God, has anointed you with the oil of gladness beyond your fellows.
8 All thy garments [smell] of myrrh, and aloes, [and] cassia, out of the ivory palaces, whereby they have made thee glad.
Myrrh, and stacte, and cassia [are exhaled] from your garments, [and] out of the ivory palaces,
9 Kings’ daughters [were] among thy honourable women: upon thy right hand did stand the queen in gold of Ophir.
with which kings' daughters have gladdened you for your honour: the queen stood by on your right hand, clothed in vesture wrought with gold, [and] arrayed in various colours.
10 Hearken, O daughter, and consider, and incline thine ear; forget also thine own people, and thy father’s house;
Hear, O daughter, and see, and incline your ear; forget also your people, and your father's house.
11 So shall the king greatly desire thy beauty: for he [is] thy Lord; and worship thou him.
Because the king has desired your beauty; for he is your Lord.
12 And the daughter of Tyre [shall be there] with a gift; [even] the rich among the people shall intreat thy favour.
And the daughter of Tyre shall adore him with gifts; the rich of the people of the land shall supplicate your favour.
13 The king’s daughter [is] all glorious within: her clothing [is] of wrought gold.
All her glory [is that] of the daughter of the king of Esebon, robed [as she is] in golden fringed garments,
14 She shall be brought unto the king in raiment of needlework: the virgins her companions that follow her shall be brought unto thee.
in embroidered [clothing]: virgins shall be brought to the king after her: her fellows shall be brought to you.
15 With gladness and rejoicing shall they be brought: they shall enter into the king’s palace.
They shall be brought with gladness and exultation: they shall be led into the king's temple.
16 Instead of thy fathers shall be thy children, whom thou mayest make princes in all the earth.
Instead of your fathers children are born to you: you shall make them princes over all the earth.
17 I will make thy name to be remembered in all generations: therefore shall the people praise thee for ever and ever.
They shall make mention of your name from generation to generation: therefore shall the nations give thanks to you for ever, even for ever and ever.
