Psalms 44
1 To the chief Musician for the sons of Korah, Maschil. We have heard with our ears, O God, our fathers have told us, [what] work thou didst in their days, in the times of old.
Auf den Siegesspender, von den Korachiten, ein Lehrgedicht. Wir wissen's, Gott, vom Hörensagen; uns haben unsere Ahnen es erzählt: das Werk, das Du in ihren Tagen, in alten Zeiten, ausgeführt.
2 [How] thou didst drive out the heathen with thy hand, and plantedst them; [how] thou didst afflict the people, and cast them out.
Mit Deinem Arme hast Du Heidenvölker ausgetrieben; dann pflanztest andere Du ein und riebest Nationen auf, und andere hast Du ausgebreitet.
3 For they got not the land in possession by their own sword, neither did their own arm save them: but thy right hand, and thine arm, and the light of thy countenance, because thou hadst a favour unto them.
Nicht ihrem Schwerte haben sie das Land verdankt; ihr Arm hat ihnen nicht den Sieg gebracht. Nein, Deine Rechte und Dein Arm und Deines Angesichtes Leuchten; Du bist ihnen hold gewesen. -
4 Thou art my King, O God: command deliverances for Jacob.
Du bist mein König, und mein Gott, der Jakob Sieg entbietet.
5 Through thee will we push down our enemies: through thy name will we tread them under that rise up against us.
Mit Dir nur stoßen wir die Gegner nieder, zertreten unsere Feinde nur in Deinem Namen.
6 For I will not trust in my bow, neither shall my sword save me.
Nicht meinem Bogen traue ich; den Sieg verschafft mir nicht mein Schwert.
7 But thou hast saved us from our enemies, and hast put them to shame that hated us.
Nur Du befreist uns von den Gegnern und machst zuschanden unsere Hasser.
8 In God we boast all the day long, and praise thy name for ever. (Selah)
Nur Gottes wollen wir uns allzeit rühmen und Deinen Namen preisen immerdar. (Sela)
9 But thou hast cast off, and put us to shame; and goest not forth with our armies.
Nun hast Du uns verworfen, gar zuschanden uns gemacht: Du ziehst nicht mehr mit unsere Scharen aus.
10 Thou makest us to turn back from the enemy: and they which hate us spoil for themselves.
Du läßt uns vor dem Gegner fliehen, und unsere Hasser holen Beute sich.
11 Thou hast given us like sheep [appointed] for meat; and hast scattered us among the heathen.
Du gibst uns hin wie Schlachtschafe, zerstreust uns unter Heiden, und die Nationen schütteln über uns den Kopf.
12 Thou sellest thy people for nought, and dost not increase [thy wealth] by their price.
Verkaufst Dein Volk um nichts, Gewinn aus ihrem Kaufpreis ziehst Du nimmer,
13 Thou makest us a reproach to our neighbours, a scorn and a derision to them that are round about us.
Du machst uns unsern Nachbarn zum Gespött, zum Hohn und Schimpfe allen um uns her.
14 Thou makest us a byword among the heathen, a shaking of the head among the people.
Zum Sprichwort für die Heiden machst Du uns, die Nationen alle schütteln über uns den Kopf.
15 My confusion [is] continually before me, and the shame of my face hath covered me,
Mein Schimpf steht täglich mir vor Augen, und Scham bedeckt mein Angesicht
16 For the voice of him that reproacheth and blasphemeth; by reason of the enemy and avenger.
bei dem Geschrei des Spötters und des Lästerers, vor Feinden und vor Rachegierigen. -
17 All this is come upon us; yet have we not forgotten thee, neither have we dealt falsely in thy covenant.
All das hat uns getroffen, obschon wir Deiner nicht vergessen, an Deinem Bunde nicht gefrevelt haben.
18 Our heart is not turned back, neither have our steps declined from thy way;
Doch unser Herz schreckt nicht zurück; nicht schwanken unsere Schritte ab von Deinem Pfade.
19 Though thou hast sore broken us in the place of dragons, and covered us with the shadow of death.
Obschon Du uns in Schrecken bringst an einer Stätte der Schakale, mit Todesschatten uns umhüllst,
20 If we have forgotten the name of our God, or stretched out our hands to a strange god;
Vergessen wir den Namen unseres Gottes? Und strecken wir nach einem fremden Gott die Hände aus?
21 Shall not God search this out? for he knoweth the secrets of the heart.
Erforschte dies nicht Gott? Er kennt des Herzens Heimlichkeiten.
22 Yea, for thy sake are we killed all the day long; we are counted as sheep for the slaughter.
Nein! Deinetwegen mordet man uns täglich und achtet uns wie Schlachtschafe.
23 Awake, why sleepest thou, O Lord? arise, cast [us] not off for ever.
Erwache doch! Was schläfst Du, Herr? Wach auf! Verwirf uns nicht für immer!
24 Wherefore hidest thou thy face, [and] forgettest our affliction and our oppression?
Warum verhüllst Du denn Dein Angesicht und denkst nicht mehr an unsere Pein und Not?
25 For our soul is bowed down to the dust: our belly cleaveth unto the earth.
Gebeugt zum Staub ist unser Körper, zu Boden unser Leib gedrückt.
26 Arise for our help, and redeem us for thy mercies’ sake.
Auf jetzt zu unserer Hilfe! Erlöse uns um Deiner Gnade willen!
