< Psalms 123 >
1 A Song of degrees. Unto thee lift I up mine eyes, O thou that dwellest in the heavens.
Yahweh, I look up toward you, up to heaven, from where you rule.
2 Behold, as the eyes of servants [look] unto the hand of their masters, [and] as the eyes of a maiden unto the hand of her mistress; so our eyes [wait] upon the LORD our God, until that he have mercy upon us.
Like servants ask [IDM] their masters [for what they need] and like maids ask t their mistresses [for what they need], we ask you, Yahweh our God, [for what we need], and we ask you to be merciful to us.
3 Have mercy upon us, O LORD, have mercy upon us: for we are exceedingly filled with contempt.
Yahweh, be very merciful [DOU] to us because [our enemies] have acted very contemptuously toward us.
4 Our soul is exceedingly filled with the scorning of those that are at ease, [and] with the contempt of the proud.
Rich people have made fun of us for a long time, and proud [people] who have (oppressed/acted cruelly toward) us have acted toward us as though we were worthless.
