Proverbs 8
1 Doth not wisdom cry? and understanding put forth her voice?
知恵は呼ばわらないのか、悟りは声をあげないのか。
2 She standeth in the top of high places, by the way in the places of the paths.
これは道のほとりの高い所の頂、また、ちまたの中に立ち、
3 She crieth at the gates, at the entry of the city, at the coming in at the doors.
町の入口にあるもろもろの門のかたわら、正門の入口で呼ばわって言う、
4 Unto you, O men, I call; and my voice [is] to the sons of man.
「人々よ、わたしはあなたがたに呼ばわり、声をあげて人の子らを呼ぶ。
5 O ye simple, understand wisdom: and, ye fools, be ye of an understanding heart.
思慮のない者よ、悟りを得よ、愚かな者よ、知恵を得よ。
6 Hear; for I will speak of excellent things; and the opening of my lips [shall be] right things.
聞け、わたしは高貴な事を語り、わがくちびるは正しい事を語り出す。
7 For my mouth shall speak truth; and wickedness [is] an abomination to my lips.
わが口は真実を述べ、わがくちびるは悪しき事を憎む。
8 All the words of my mouth [are] in righteousness; [there is] nothing froward or perverse in them.
わが口の言葉はみな正しい、そのうちに偽りと、よこしまはない。
9 They [are] all plain to him that understandeth, and right to them that find knowledge.
これはみな、さとき者の明らかにするところ、知識を得る者の正しとするところである。
10 Receive my instruction, and not silver; and knowledge rather than choice gold.
あなたがたは銀を受けるよりも、わたしの教を受けよ、精金よりも、むしろ知識を得よ。
11 For wisdom [is] better than rubies; and all the things that may be desired are not to be compared to it.
知恵は宝石にまさり、あなたがたの望むすべての物は、これと比べるにたりない。
12 I wisdom dwell with prudence, and find out knowledge of witty inventions.
知恵であるわたしは悟りをすみかとし、知識と慎みとをもつ。
13 The fear of the LORD [is] to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, do I hate.
主を恐れるとは悪を憎むことである。わたしは高ぶりと、おごりと、悪しき道と、偽りの言葉とを憎む。
14 Counsel [is] mine, and sound wisdom: I [am] understanding; I have strength.
計りごとと、確かな知恵とは、わたしにある、わたしには悟りがあり、わたしには力がある。
15 By me kings reign, and princes decree justice.
わたしによって、王たる者は世を治め、君たる者は正しい定めを立てる。
16 By me princes rule, and nobles, [even] all the judges of the earth.
わたしによって、主たる者は支配し、つかさたる者は地を治める。
17 I love them that love me; and those that seek me early shall find me.
わたしは、わたしを愛する者を愛する、わたしをせつに求める者は、わたしに出会う。
18 Riches and honour [are] with me; [yea], durable riches and righteousness.
富と誉とはわたしにあり、すぐれた宝と繁栄もまたそうである。
19 My fruit [is] better than gold, yea, than fine gold; and my revenue than choice silver.
わたしの実は金よりも精金よりも良く、わたしの産物は精銀にまさる。
20 I lead in the way of righteousness, in the midst of the paths of judgment:
わたしは正義の道、公正な道筋の中を歩み、
21 That I may cause those that love me to inherit substance; and I will fill their treasures.
わたしを愛する者に宝を得させ、またその倉を満ちさせる。
22 The LORD possessed me in the beginning of his way, before his works of old.
主が昔そのわざをなし始められるとき、そのわざの初めとして、わたしを造られた。
23 I was set up from everlasting, from the beginning, or ever the earth was.
いにしえ、地のなかった時、初めに、わたしは立てられた。
24 When [there were] no depths, I was brought forth; when [there were] no fountains abounding with water.
まだ海もなく、また大いなる水の泉もなかった時、わたしはすでに生れ、
25 Before the mountains were settled, before the hills was I brought forth:
山もまだ定められず、丘もまだなかった時、わたしはすでに生れた。
26 While as yet he had not made the earth, nor the fields, nor the highest part of the dust of the world.
すなわち神がまだ地をも野をも、地のちりのもとをも造られなかった時である。
27 When he prepared the heavens, I [was] there: when he set a compass upon the face of the depth:
彼が天を造り、海のおもてに、大空を張られたとき、わたしはそこにあった。
28 When he established the clouds above: when he strengthened the fountains of the deep:
彼が上に空を堅く立たせ、淵の泉をつよく定め、
29 When he gave to the sea his decree, that the waters should not pass his commandment: when he appointed the foundations of the earth:
海にその限界をたて、水にその岸を越えないようにし、また地の基を定められたとき、
30 Then I was by him, [as] one brought up [with him: ] and I was daily [his] delight, rejoicing always before him;
わたしは、そのかたわらにあって、名匠となり、日々に喜び、常にその前に楽しみ、
31 Rejoicing in the habitable part of his earth; and my delights [were] with the sons of men.
その地で楽しみ、また世の人を喜んだ。
32 Now therefore hearken unto me, O ye children: for blessed [are they that] keep my ways.
それゆえ、子供らよ、今わたしの言うことを聞け、わたしの道を守る者はさいわいである。
33 Hear instruction, and be wise, and refuse it not.
教訓を聞いて、知恵を得よ、これを捨ててはならない。
34 Blessed [is] the man that heareth me, watching daily at my gates, waiting at the posts of my doors.
わたしの言うことを聞き、日々わたしの門のかたわらでうかがい、わたしの戸口の柱のわきで待つ人はさいわいである。
35 For whoso findeth me findeth life, and shall obtain favour of the LORD.
それは、わたしを得る者は命を得、主から恵みを得るからである。
36 But he that sinneth against me wrongeth his own soul: all they that hate me love death.
わたしを失う者は自分の命をそこなう、すべてわたしを憎む者は死を愛する者である」。
