Proverbs 6
1 My son, if thou be surety for thy friend, [if] thou hast stricken thy hand with a stranger,
ऐ मेरे बेटे, अगर तू अपने पड़ोसी का ज़ामिन हुआ है, अगर तू हाथ पर हाथ मारकर किसी बेगाने का ज़िम्मेदार हुआ है,
2 Thou art snared with the words of thy mouth, thou art taken with the words of thy mouth.
तो तू अपने ही मुँह की बातों में फंसा, तू अपने ही मुँह की बातों से पकड़ा गया।
3 Do this now, my son, and deliver thyself, when thou art come into the hand of thy friend; go, humble thyself, and make sure thy friend.
इसलिए ऐ मेरे बेटे, क्यूँकि तू अपने पड़ोसी के हाथ में फँस गया है, अब यह कर और अपने आपको बचा ले, जा, ख़ाकसार बनकर अपने पड़ोसी से इसरार कर।
4 Give not sleep to thine eyes, nor slumber to thine eyelids.
तू न अपनी आँखों में नींद आने दे, और न अपनी पलकों में झपकी।
5 Deliver thyself as a roe from the hand [of the hunter], and as a bird from the hand of the fowler.
अपने आपको हरनी की तरह और सय्याद के हाथ से, और चिड़िया की तरह चिड़ीमार के हाथ से छुड़ा।
6 Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise:
ऐ काहिल, चींटी के पास जा, चाल चलन पर ग़ौर कर और 'अक़्लमंद बन।
7 Which having no guide, overseer, or ruler,
जो बावजूद यह कि उसका न कोई सरदार, न नाज़िर न हाकिम है,
8 Provideth her meat in the summer, [and] gathereth her food in the harvest.
गर्मी के मौसिम में अपनी खू़राक मुहय्या करती है, और फ़सल कटने के वक़्त अपनी ख़ुराक जमा' करती है।
9 How long wilt thou sleep, O sluggard? when wilt thou arise out of thy sleep?
ऐ काहिल, तू कब तक पड़ा रहेगा? तू नींद से कब उठेगा?
10 [Yet] a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep:
थोड़ी सी नींद, एक और झपकी, ज़रा पड़े रहने को हाथ पर हाथ:
11 So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth, and thy want as an armed man.
इसी तरह तेरी ग़रीबी राहज़न की तरह, और तेरी तंगदस्ती हथियारबन्द आदमी की तरह आ पड़ेगी।
12 A naughty person, a wicked man, walketh with a froward mouth.
ख़बीस — ओ — बदकार आदमी, टेढ़ी तिरछी ज़बान लिए फिरता है।
13 He winketh with his eyes, he speaketh with his feet, he teacheth with his fingers;
वह आँख मारता है, वह पाँव से बातें, और ऊँगलियों से इशारा करता है।
14 Frowardness [is] in his heart, he deviseth mischief continually; he soweth discord.
उसके दिल में कजी है, वह बुराई के मन्सूबे बाँधता रहता है, वह फ़ितना अंगेज़ है।
15 Therefore shall his calamity come suddenly; suddenly shall he be broken without remedy.
इसलिए आफ़त उस पर अचानक आ पड़ेगी, वह एकदम तोड़ दिया जाएगा और कोई चारा न होगा।
16 These six [things] doth the LORD hate: yea, seven [are] an abomination unto him:
छ: चीजें हैं जिनसे ख़ुदावन्द को नफ़रत है, बल्कि सात हैं जिनसे उसे नफ़रत है:
17 A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,
ऊँची आँखें, झूटी ज़बान, बेगुनाह का खू़न बहाने वाले हाथ,
18 An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief,
बुरे मन्सूबे बाँधने वाला दिल, शरारत के लिए तेज़ रफ़्तार पाँव,
19 A false witness [that] speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.
झूटा गवाह जो दरोग़गोई करता है, और जो भाइयों में निफ़ाक़ डालता है।
20 My son, keep thy father’s commandment, and forsake not the law of thy mother:
ऐ मेरे बेटे, अपने बाप के फ़रमान को बजा ला, और अपनी माँ की ता'लीम को न छोड़।
21 Bind them continually upon thine heart, [and] tie them about thy neck.
इनको अपने दिल पर बाँधे रख, और अपने गले का तौक़ बना ले।
22 When thou goest, it shall lead thee; when thou sleepest, it shall keep thee; and [when] thou awakest, it shall talk with thee.
यह चलते वक़्त तेरी रहबरी, और सोते वक़्त तेरी निगहबानी, और जागते वक़्त तुझ से बातें करेगी।
23 For the commandment [is] a lamp; and the law [is] light; and reproofs of instruction [are] the way of life:
क्यूँकि फ़रमान चिराग़ है और ता'लीम नूर, और तरबियत की मलामत ज़िन्दगी की राह है,
24 To keep thee from the evil woman, from the flattery of the tongue of a strange woman.
ताकि तुझ को बुरी 'औरत से बचाए, या'नी बेगाना 'औरत की ज़बान की चापलूसी से।
25 Lust not after her beauty in thine heart; neither let her take thee with her eyelids.
तू अपने दिल में उसके हुस्न पर 'आशिक़ न हो, और वह तुझ को अपनी पलकों से शिकार न करे।
26 For by means of a whorish woman [a man is brought] to a piece of bread: and the adulteress will hunt for the precious life.
क्यूँकि धोके की वजह से आदमी टुकड़े का मुहताज हो जाता है, और ज़ानिया क़ीमती जान का शिकार करती है।
27 Can a man take fire in his bosom, and his clothes not be burned?
क्या मुम्किन है कि आदमी अपने सीने में आग रख्खे, और उसके कपड़े न जलें?
28 Can one go upon hot coals, and his feet not be burned?
या कोई अंगारों पर चले, और उसके पाँव न झुलसें?
29 So he that goeth in to his neighbour’s wife; whosoever toucheth her shall not be innocent.
वह भी ऐसा है जो अपने पड़ोसी की बीवी के पास जाता है; जो कोई उसे छुए बे सज़ा न रहेगा।
30 [Men] do not despise a thief, if he steal to satisfy his soul when he is hungry;
चोर अगर भूक के मारे अपना पेट भरने को चोरी करे, तो लोग उसे हक़ीर नहीं जानते;
31 But [if] he be found, he shall restore sevenfold; he shall give all the substance of his house.
लेकिन अगर वह पकड़ा जाए तो सात गुना भरेगा, उसे अपने घर का सारा माल देना पड़ेगा।
32 [But] whoso committeth adultery with a woman lacketh understanding: he [that] doeth it destroyeth his own soul.
जो किसी 'औरत से ज़िना करता है वह बे'अक़्ल है; वही ऐसा करता है जो अपनी जान को हलाक करना चाहता है।
33 A wound and dishonour shall he get; and his reproach shall not be wiped away.
वह ज़ख़्म और ज़िल्लत उठाएगा, और उसकी रुस्वाई कभी न मिटेगी।
34 For jealousy [is] the rage of a man: therefore he will not spare in the day of vengeance.
क्यूँकि गै़रत से आदमी ग़ज़बनाक होता है, और वह इन्तिक़ाम के दिन नहीं छोड़ेगा।
35 He will not regard any ransom; neither will he rest content, though thou givest many gifts.
वह कोई फ़िदिया मंजूर नहीं करेगा, और चाहे तू बहुत से इन'आम भी दे तोभी वह राज़ी न होगा।
