Proverbs 26
1 As snow in summer, and as rain in harvest, so honour is not seemly for a fool.
१उन्हाळ्यात जसे बर्फ किंवा कापणीच्यावेळी पाऊस, त्याचप्रमाणे मूर्खाला सन्मान शोभत नाही.
2 As the bird by wandering, as the swallow by flying, so the curse causeless shall not come.
२जशी भटकणारी चिमणी आणि उडणारी निळवी, याप्रमाणे विनाकारण दिलेला शाप कोणावरही येत नाही.
3 A whip for the horse, a bridle for the ass, and a rod for the fool’s back.
३घोड्याला चाबूक, गाढवाला लगाम, आणि मूर्खाच्या पाठीला काठी आहे.
4 Answer not a fool according to his folly, lest thou also be like unto him.
४मूर्खाला उत्तर देऊ नको आणि त्याच्या मूर्खपणात सामील होऊ नकोस, किंवा देशील तर तू त्यांच्यासारखाच होशील.
5 Answer a fool according to his folly, lest he be wise in his own conceit.
५मूर्खाला उत्तर दे आणि त्याच्या मूर्खतेत सामील हो, नाहीतर तो आपल्या स्वतःच्या दृष्टीने शहाणा होईल.
6 He that sendeth a message by the hand of a fool cutteth off the feet, [and] drinketh damage.
६जो कोणी मूर्खाच्या हाती निरोप पाठवतो, तो आपले पाय कापून टाकतो आणि तो उपद्रव पितो.
7 The legs of the lame are not equal: so [is] a parable in the mouth of fools.
७पांगळ्याचे पाय जसे खाली लोंबकळतात तसे मूर्खाच्या तोंडचे नीतिवचन आहे.
8 As he that bindeth a stone in a sling, so [is] he that giveth honour to a fool.
८मूर्खाला आदर देणारा, गोफणीत दगड बांधण्याऱ्यासारखा आहे.
9 [As] a thorn goeth up into the hand of a drunkard, so [is] a parable in the mouth of fools.
९मूर्खाच्या तोंडचे नीतिवचन, झिंगलेल्याच्या हातात रुतलेल्या काट्यासारखे आहे.
10 The great [God] that formed all [things] both rewardeth the fool, and rewardeth transgressors.
१०एखादा तिरंदाज प्रत्येकाला जखमी करतो, तसेच जो मूर्खाला किंवा जवळून आल्या गेल्यास मोलाने काम करायला लावतो तो तसाच आहे.
11 As a dog returneth to his vomit, [so] a fool returneth to his folly.
११जसा कुत्रा आपल्या स्वतःच्या ओकीकडे फिरतो. तसा मूर्ख आपली मूर्खता पुन्हा करतो.
12 Seest thou a man wise in his own conceit? [there is] more hope of a fool than of him.
१२आपल्या दृष्टीने स्वतःला शहाणा समजतो असा कोणी तुझ्या पाहण्यात आहे का? त्यापेक्षा मूर्खाला अधिक आशा आहे.
13 The slothful [man] saith, [There is] a lion in the way; a lion [is] in the streets.
१३आळशी मनुष्य म्हणतो, “रस्त्यावर सिंह आहे!” तेथे उघड्या जागेमध्ये सिंह आहे.
14 [As] the door turneth upon his hinges, so [doth] the slothful upon his bed.
१४दार जसे बिजागरीवर फिरते, तसा आळशी मनुष्य अंथरुणावर लोळत असतो.
15 The slothful hideth his hand in [his] bosom; it grieveth him to bring it again to his mouth.
१५आळशी आपला हात ताटात घालून ठेवतो, आणि तरी त्यास आपला हात तोंडापर्यंत नेण्यास शक्ती नसते.
16 The sluggard [is] wiser in his own conceit than seven men that can render a reason.
१६विवेक दृष्टी असणाऱ्या सात मनुष्यांपेक्षा आळशी मनुष्य आपल्या दृष्टीने शहाणा समजतो.
17 He that passeth by, [and] meddleth with strife [belonging] not to him, [is like] one that taketh a dog by the ears.
१७जो दुसऱ्यांच्या वादात पडून संतप्त होतो, तो जवळून जाणाऱ्या कुत्र्याचे कान धरुन ओढणाऱ्यासारखा आहे.
18 As a mad [man] who casteth firebrands, arrows, and death,
१८जो कोणी मूर्खमनुष्य जळते बाण मारतो,
19 So [is] the man [that] deceiveth his neighbour, and saith, Am not I in sport?
१९तो अशा मनुष्यासारखा आहे जो आपल्या एका शेजाऱ्याला फसवतो, आणि म्हणतो, मी विनोद सांगत नव्हतो काय?
20 Where no wood is, [there] the fire goeth out: so where [there is] no talebearer, the strife ceaseth.
२०लाकडाच्या अभावी, अग्नी विझतो. आणि जेथे कोठे गप्पाटप्पा करणारे नसतील तर भांडणे थांबतात.
21 [As] coals [are] to burning coals, and wood to fire; so [is] a contentious man to kindle strife.
२१जसे लोणारी कोळसा जळत्या कोळश्याला आणि लाकडे अग्नीला, त्याचप्रमाणे भांडण पेटवायला भांडखोर लागतो.
22 The words of a talebearer [are] as wounds, and they go down into the innermost parts of the belly.
२२गप्पाटप्पा करणाऱ्याचे शब्द स्वादिष्ट पक्वान्नासारखे असतात. ते पोटाच्या आंतील भागापर्यंत खाली जातात.
23 Burning lips and a wicked heart [are like] a potsherd covered with silver dross.
२३जसे वाणी कळवळ्याची आणि दुष्ट हृदय असणे, हे मातीच्या पात्राला रुप्याचा मुलामा दिल्यासारखे आहे.
24 He that hateth dissembleth with his lips, and layeth up deceit within him;
२४जो कोणी प्रबंधाचा द्वेष करतो तो आपल्या ओठांनी आपल्या भावना लपवतो, आणि तो आपल्या अंतर्यामात कपट बाळगतो;
25 When he speaketh fair, believe him not: for [there are] seven abominations in his heart.
२५तो विनम्रपणे बोलेल, पण त्याच्यावर विश्वास ठेवू नका, कारण त्याच्या हृदयात सात घृणा आहेत;
26 [Whose] hatred is covered by deceit, his wickedness shall be shewed before the [whole] congregation.
२६तरी त्याचा द्वेष कपटाने झाकला जाईल, आणि दुष्टपणा मंडळीसमोर उघड केला जाईल.
27 Whoso diggeth a pit shall fall therein: and he that rolleth a stone, it will return upon him.
२७जो कोणी खड्डा खणतो तो तिच्यात पडेल, आणि जो धोंडा लोटतो त्याच्यावर तो उलट येईल.
28 A lying tongue hateth [those that are] afflicted by it; and a flattering mouth worketh ruin.
२८लबाड बोलणारी जिव्हा आपण चिरडून टाकलेल्या लोकांचा द्वेष करते, आणि फाजील स्तुती करणारे तोंड नाशाला कारण होते.
