Proverbs 26
1 As snow in summer, and as rain in harvest, so honour is not seemly for a fool.
১যেমন গ্রীষ্মকালে বরফ ও শস্য কাটার দিন বৃষ্টি, তেমনি নির্বোধের পক্ষে সম্মান উপযুক্ত নয়।
2 As the bird by wandering, as the swallow by flying, so the curse causeless shall not come.
২যেমন চড়ুইপাখি ঘুরে বেড়ায়, দোয়েল উড়তে থাকে, তেমনি অকারণে দেওয়া শাপ কাছে আসে না।
3 A whip for the horse, a bridle for the ass, and a rod for the fool’s back.
৩ঘোড়ার জন্য চাবুক, গাধার জন্য বলগা, আর নির্বোধদের পিঠের জন্য ডান্ডা।
4 Answer not a fool according to his folly, lest thou also be like unto him.
৪নির্বোধকে উওর দিও না এবং তার বোকামিতে যুক্ত হয়ো না, পাছে তুমিও তারমত হও।
5 Answer a fool according to his folly, lest he be wise in his own conceit.
৫নির্বোধকে তার অজ্ঞানতা অনুসারে উওর দাও, যাতে সে নিজের চোখে জ্ঞানবান না হয়।
6 He that sendeth a message by the hand of a fool cutteth off the feet, [and] drinketh damage.
৬যে নির্বোধের হাতে খবর পাঠায়, সে নিজের পা কেটে ফেলে ও বিষ পান করে।
7 The legs of the lame are not equal: so [is] a parable in the mouth of fools.
৭খোঁড়ার পা খুঁড়িয়ে চলে, নির্বোধদের মুখে নীতিকথা সে রকম।
8 As he that bindeth a stone in a sling, so [is] he that giveth honour to a fool.
৮যেমন ফিঙ্গাতে পাথর বাধা, তেমনি সেই জন, যে নির্বোধকে সম্মান করে।
9 [As] a thorn goeth up into the hand of a drunkard, so [is] a parable in the mouth of fools.
৯মাতালের হাতে যে কাঁটা উঠে, তা যেমন, তেমনি নির্বোধদের মুখে নীতিকথা।
10 The great [God] that formed all [things] both rewardeth the fool, and rewardeth transgressors.
১০যে নির্বোধ এবং পথ চলতি লোককে, যে শুধু আসে এবং চলে যায়, কাজে নিযুক্ত করে ও বেতন দেয়, সে সকলকে আহত করে।
11 As a dog returneth to his vomit, [so] a fool returneth to his folly.
১১যেমন কুকুর নিজের বমির দিকে ফেরে, তেমনি নির্বোধ নিজের অজ্ঞানতার দিকে ফেরে।
12 Seest thou a man wise in his own conceit? [there is] more hope of a fool than of him.
১২তুমি কি নিজের চোখে জ্ঞানবান লোক দেখছ? তার থেকে বরং নির্বোধের বিষয়ে বেশী আশা আছে।
13 The slothful [man] saith, [There is] a lion in the way; a lion [is] in the streets.
১৩অলস বলে, “পথে সিংহ আছে! খোলা জায়গার মধ্যে সিংহ থাকে।”
14 [As] the door turneth upon his hinges, so [doth] the slothful upon his bed.
১৪কব্জাতে যেমন কপাট ঘোরে, তেমনি অলস তার বিছানার ওপর।
15 The slothful hideth his hand in [his] bosom; it grieveth him to bring it again to his mouth.
১৫অলস থালায় হাত ডোবায়, আবার মুখে তুলতে তার শক্তি থাকে না।
16 The sluggard [is] wiser in his own conceit than seven men that can render a reason.
১৬সুবিচারসিদ্ধ উত্তরকারী সাত জনের থেকে অলস নিজের চোখে অনেক জ্ঞানবান।
17 He that passeth by, [and] meddleth with strife [belonging] not to him, [is like] one that taketh a dog by the ears.
১৭যে জন পথে যেতে যেতে নিজের সঙ্গে সম্পর্কবিহীন বিবাদে রুষ্ট হয়, সে কুকুরের কান ধরে।
18 As a mad [man] who casteth firebrands, arrows, and death,
১৮পাগললোকের মত যে জ্বলন্ত তির ছোঁড়ে,
19 So [is] the man [that] deceiveth his neighbour, and saith, Am not I in sport?
১৯তেমনি সেই লোক, যে প্রতিবেশীকে প্রতারণা করে, আর বলে, আমি কি উপহাস করছি না?
20 Where no wood is, [there] the fire goeth out: so where [there is] no talebearer, the strife ceaseth.
২০কাঠ শেষ হলে আগুন নিভে যায়, পরচর্চা না থাকলে ঝগড়ায় নিবৃত্ত হয়।
21 [As] coals [are] to burning coals, and wood to fire; so [is] a contentious man to kindle strife.
২১যেমন জ্বলন্ত অঙ্গারের পক্ষে কয়লা ও আগুনের জন্য কাঠ, তেমনি ঝগড়ায় আগুন জ্বালাবার জন্য ঝগড়াটে।
22 The words of a talebearer [are] as wounds, and they go down into the innermost parts of the belly.
২২পরচর্চার কথা সুস্বাদু খাবারের মতো, তা দেহের ভিতরে নেমে যায়।
23 Burning lips and a wicked heart [are like] a potsherd covered with silver dross.
২৩জ্বলন্ত ঠোঁট ও দুষ্ট হৃদয় খাদ-রূপা মাখানো মাটির পাত্রের মত।
24 He that hateth dissembleth with his lips, and layeth up deceit within him;
২৪যে ঘৃণা করে, সে ঠোঁটে ভাণ করে এবং সে নিজের মধ্যে প্রতারণা জমিয়ে রাখে;
25 When he speaketh fair, believe him not: for [there are] seven abominations in his heart.
২৫তার আওয়াজ মধুর মত হলে তাকে বিশ্বাস কোরো না, কারণ তার হৃদয়ের মধ্যে সাতটা ঘৃণার বস্তু থাকে।
26 [Whose] hatred is covered by deceit, his wickedness shall be shewed before the [whole] congregation.
২৬যদিও তার ঘৃণা ছলে ঢাকা, তার দুষ্টুমি সমাজে প্রকাশিত হবে।
27 Whoso diggeth a pit shall fall therein: and he that rolleth a stone, it will return upon him.
২৭যে খাত ছোট, সে তার মধ্যে পড়বে; যে পাথর গড়িয়ে দেয়, তারই ওপরে তা ফিরে আসবে।
28 A lying tongue hateth [those that are] afflicted by it; and a flattering mouth worketh ruin.
২৮মিথ্যাবাদী জিভ যাদেরকে চূর্ণ করেছে, তাদেরকে ঘৃণা করে; আর চাটুবাদী মুখ ধ্বংস সাধন করে।
