Proverbs 25
1 These [are] also proverbs of Solomon, which the men of Hezekiah king of Judah copied out.
१सुलैमान के नीतिवचन ये भी हैं; जिन्हें यहूदा के राजा हिजकिय्याह के जनों ने नकल की थी।
2 [It is] the glory of God to conceal a thing: but the honour of kings [is] to search out a matter.
२परमेश्वर की महिमा, गुप्त रखने में है परन्तु राजाओं की महिमा गुप्त बात के पता लगाने से होती है।
3 The heaven for height, and the earth for depth, and the heart of kings [is] unsearchable.
३स्वर्ग की ऊँचाई और पृथ्वी की गहराई और राजाओं का मन, इन तीनों का अन्त नहीं मिलता।
4 Take away the dross from the silver, and there shall come forth a vessel for the finer.
४चाँदी में से मैल दूर करने पर वह सुनार के लिये काम की हो जाती है।
5 Take away the wicked [from] before the king, and his throne shall be established in righteousness.
५वैसे ही, राजा के सामने से दुष्ट को निकाल देने पर उसकी गद्दी धर्म के कारण स्थिर होगी।
6 Put not forth thyself in the presence of the king, and stand not in the place of great [men: ]
६राजा के सामने अपनी बड़ाई न करना और बड़े लोगों के स्थान में खड़ा न होना;
7 For better [it is] that it be said unto thee, Come up hither; than that thou shouldest be put lower in the presence of the prince whom thine eyes have seen.
७उनके लिए तुझ से यह कहना बेहतर है कि, “इधर मेरे पास आकर बैठ” ताकि प्रधानों के सम्मुख तुझे अपमानित न होना पड़े.
8 Go not forth hastily to strive, lest [thou know not] what to do in the end thereof, when thy neighbour hath put thee to shame.
८जो कुछ तूने देखा है, वह जल्दी से अदालत में न ला, अन्त में जब तेरा पड़ोसी तुझे शर्मिंदा करेगा तो तू क्या करेगा?
9 Debate thy cause with thy neighbour [himself; ] and discover not a secret to another:
९अपने पड़ोसी के साथ वाद-विवाद एकान्त में करना और पराए का भेद न खोलना;
10 Lest he that heareth [it] put thee to shame, and thine infamy turn not away.
१०ऐसा न हो कि सुननेवाला तेरी भी निन्दा करे, और तेरी निन्दा बनी रहे।
11 A word fitly spoken [is like] apples of gold in pictures of silver.
११जैसे चाँदी की टोकरियों में सोने के सेब हों, वैसे ही ठीक समय पर कहा हुआ वचन होता है।
12 [As] an earring of gold, and an ornament of fine gold, [so is] a wise reprover upon an obedient ear.
१२जैसे सोने का नत्थ और कुन्दन का जेवर अच्छा लगता है, वैसे ही माननेवाले के कान में बुद्धिमान की डाँट भी अच्छी लगती है।
13 As the cold of snow in the time of harvest, [so is] a faithful messenger to them that send him: for he refresheth the soul of his masters.
१३जैसे कटनी के समय बर्फ की ठण्ड से, वैसा ही विश्वासयोग्य दूत से भी, भेजनेवालों का जी ठंडा होता है।
14 Whoso boasteth himself of a false gift [is like] clouds and wind without rain.
१४जैसे बादल और पवन बिना वृष्टि निर्लाभ होते हैं, वैसे ही झूठ-मूठ दान देनेवाले का बड़ाई मारना होता है।
15 By long forbearing is a prince persuaded, and a soft tongue breaketh the bone.
१५धीरज धरने से न्यायी मनाया जाता है, और कोमल वचन हड्डी को भी तोड़ डालता है।
16 Hast thou found honey? eat so much as is sufficient for thee, lest thou be filled therewith, and vomit it.
१६क्या तूने मधु पाया? तो जितना तेरे लिये ठीक हो उतना ही खाना, ऐसा न हो कि अधिक खाकर उसे उगल दे।
17 Withdraw thy foot from thy neighbour’s house; lest he be weary of thee, and [so] hate thee.
१७अपने पड़ोसी के घर में बारम्बार जाने से अपने पाँव को रोक, ऐसा न हो कि वह खिन्न होकर घृणा करने लगे।
18 A man that beareth false witness against his neighbour [is] a maul, and a sword, and a sharp arrow.
१८जो किसी के विरुद्ध झूठी साक्षी देता है, वह मानो हथौड़ा और तलवार और पैना तीर है।
19 Confidence in an unfaithful man in time of trouble [is like] a broken tooth, and a foot out of joint.
१९विपत्ति के समय विश्वासघाती का भरोसा, टूटे हुए दाँत या उखड़े पाँव के समान है।
20 [As] he that taketh away a garment in cold weather, [and as] vinegar upon nitre, so [is] he that singeth songs to an heavy heart.
२०जैसा जाड़े के दिनों में किसी का वस्त्र उतारना या सज्जी पर सिरका डालना होता है, वैसा ही उदास मनवाले के सामने गीत गाना होता है।
21 If thine enemy be hungry, give him bread to eat; and if he be thirsty, give him water to drink:
२१यदि तेरा बैरी भूखा हो तो उसको रोटी खिलाना; और यदि वह प्यासा हो तो उसे पानी पिलाना;
22 For thou shalt heap coals of fire upon his head, and the LORD shall reward thee.
२२क्योंकि इस रीति तू उसके सिर पर अंगारे डालेगा, और यहोवा तुझे इसका फल देगा।
23 The north wind driveth away rain: so [doth] an angry countenance a backbiting tongue.
२३जैसे उत्तरी वायु वर्षा को लाती है, वैसे ही चुगली करने से मुख पर क्रोध छा जाता है।
24 [It is] better to dwell in the corner of the housetop, than with a brawling woman and in a wide house.
२४लम्बे चौड़े घर में झगड़ालू पत्नी के संग रहने से छत के कोने पर रहना उत्तम है।
25 [As] cold waters to a thirsty soul, so [is] good news from a far country.
२५दूर देश से शुभ सन्देश, प्यासे के लिए ठंडे पानी के समान है।
26 A righteous man falling down before the wicked [is as] a troubled fountain, and a corrupt spring.
२६जो धर्मी दुष्ट के कहने में आता है, वह खराब जल-स्रोत और बिगड़े हुए कुण्ड के समान है।
27 [It is] not good to eat much honey: so [for men] to search their own glory [is not] glory.
२७जैसे बहुत मधु खाना अच्छा नहीं, वैसे ही आत्मप्रशंसा करना भी अच्छा नहीं।
28 He that [hath] no rule over his own spirit [is like] a city [that is] broken down, [and] without walls.
२८जिसकी आत्मा वश में नहीं वह ऐसे नगर के समान है जिसकी शहरपनाह घेराव करके तोड़ दी गई हो।
