Proverbs 24
1 Be not thou envious against evil men, neither desire to be with them.
Chớ ganh tị người ác, cũng đừng mong kết bạn với họ.
2 For their heart studieth destruction, and their lips talk of mischief.
Vì lòng chúng đầy âm mưu bạo tàn, môi nói ra toàn lời nguy hại.
3 Through wisdom is an house builded; and by understanding it is established:
Nhà cửa xây trên nền khôn ngoan và được vững vàng do hiểu biết.
4 And by knowledge shall the chambers be filled with all precious and pleasant riches.
Do tri thức các phòng được đầy vật quý hiếm.
5 A wise man [is] strong; yea, a man of knowledge increaseth strength.
Người khôn ngoan là người có sức lớn, người tri thức lại càng thêm năng lực.
6 For by wise counsel thou shalt make thy war: and in multitude of counsellors [there is] safety.
Đánh giặc phải nhờ mưu khôn ngoan; muốn chiến thắng, cần nhiều mưu sĩ.
7 Wisdom [is] too high for a fool: he openeth not his mouth in the gate.
Với người dại, khôn ngoan là điều cao xa quá. Nơi cổng thành, nó chẳng dám hé miệng ra.
8 He that deviseth to do evil shall be called a mischievous person.
Ai mưu tính điều ác, sẽ nổi danh là người gian xảo.
9 The thought of foolishness [is] sin: and the scorner [is] an abomination to men.
Âm mưu của người dại là tội lỗi; người nhạo báng bị người ta ghê tởm.
10 [If] thou faint in the day of adversity, thy strength [is] small.
Chỉ người yếu hèn mới sờn lòng trong ngày hoạn nạn.
11 If thou forbear to deliver [them that are] drawn unto death, and [those that are] ready to be slain;
Hãy cứu người bị đưa đến cõi chết; hãy ngăn bước người lảo đảo đi đến chỗ tử vong.
12 If thou sayest, Behold, we knew it not; doth not he that pondereth the heart consider [it]? and he that keepeth thy soul, doth [not] he know [it]? and shall [not] he render to [every] man according to his works?
Đừng tự nói: “Chúng tôi chẳng biết chuyện gì cả.” Vì Đức Chúa Trời hiểu rõ lòng người, và Ngài nhìn thấy. Đấng canh giữ mạng sống con biết rõ con đã biết. Ngài sẽ báo trả mỗi người tùy việc họ đã làm.
13 My son, eat thou honey, because [it is] good; and the honeycomb, [which is] sweet to thy taste:
Con ơi, hãy ăn mật ong vì nó tốt, mật của tàn ong ngon ngọt cho miệng con.
14 So [shall] the knowledge of wisdom [be] unto thy soul: when thou hast found [it], then there shall be a reward, and thy expectation shall not be cut off.
Cũng hãy biết rằng khôn ngoan ngọt ngào cho linh hồn con. Nếu con tìm được khôn ngoan, con sẽ tràn đầy hy vọng, và hy vọng của con sẽ không bị cắt đứt.
15 Lay not wait, O wicked [man], against the dwelling of the righteous; spoil not his resting place:
Đừng rình rập nhà người công chính, cũng đừng cướp phá nơi ở của người,
16 For a just [man] falleth seven times, and riseth up again: but the wicked shall fall into mischief.
Vì người công chính vẫn đứng dậy, dù bị ngã bảy lần. Nhưng chỉ một tai vạ, người ác đã bại liệt ngay.
17 Rejoice not when thine enemy falleth, and let not thine heart be glad when he stumbleth:
Khi kẻ địch sa cơ, con chớ mừng; khi nó ngã, lòng con đừng hớn hở.
18 Lest the LORD see [it], and it displease him, and he turn away his wrath from him.
Kẻo e Chúa Hằng Hữu không bằng lòng và ngưng ra tay trừng phạt nó chăng.
19 Fret not thyself because of evil [men], neither be thou envious at the wicked;
Chớ nóng lòng vì công việc người ác, đừng ganh tị khi người dữ thành đạt.
20 For there shall be no reward to the evil [man; ] the candle of the wicked shall be put out.
Đời người ác không có tương lai; đèn người dữ nay mai sẽ tắt.
21 My son, fear thou the LORD and the king: [and] meddle not with them that are given to change:
Con ơi, phải kính sợ Chúa và tôn trọng vua. Đừng liên kết với bọn người phản loạn,
22 For their calamity shall rise suddenly; and who knoweth the ruin of them both?
vì họa tai sẽ đến bất ngờ. Ai lường được hình phạt của Chúa Hằng Hữu và vua?
23 These [things] also [belong] to the wise. [It is] not good to have respect of persons in judgment.
Đây là lời của người khôn ngoan: Khi xét xử, đừng thiên vị ai cả.
24 He that saith unto the wicked, Thou [art] righteous; him shall the people curse, nations shall abhor him:
Ai tuyên bố với người ác rằng “Anh vô tội,” sẽ bị mọi người nguyền rủa không thôi.
25 But to them that rebuke [him] shall be delight, and a good blessing shall come upon them.
Ai trách phạt người ác, sẽ được mọi người ưa thích; và tràn đầy phước hạnh.
26 [Every man] shall kiss [his] lips that giveth a right answer.
Lời nói thẳng xuất phát từ tình thương.
27 Prepare thy work without, and make it fit for thyself in the field; and afterwards build thine house.
Lo làm ăn trong ngoài chu tất, rồi hãy tính đến việc cất nhà.
28 Be not a witness against thy neighbour without cause; and deceive [not] with thy lips.
Đừng vô cớ làm chứng hại láng giềng; môi miệng con đừng thốt ra lời dối trá.
29 Say not, I will do so to him as he hath done to me: I will render to the man according to his work.
Chớ nói: “Tôi báo trả lại điều nó làm cho tôi! Tôi chỉ tốt với người tốt với tôi thôi!”
30 I went by the field of the slothful, and by the vineyard of the man void of understanding;
Ta có qua ruộng một người kém siêng năng, và vườn nho của người ngu dại.
31 And, lo, it was all grown over with thorns, [and] nettles had covered the face thereof, and the stone wall thereof was broken down.
Cỏ mọc um tùm, gai phủ giăng. Rào dậu điêu tàn nghiêng ngửa đổ.
32 Then I saw, [and] considered [it] well: I looked upon [it, and] received instruction.
Quan sát cảnh ấy, ta để ý, suy xét, và học được rằng:
33 [Yet] a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep:
Ngủ một chút, mơ màng thêm một chút, khoanh tay nghỉ một chút nữa thôi—
34 So shall thy poverty come [as] one that travelleth; and thy want as an armed man.
cảnh nghèo đến như kẻ trộm; bạo tàn, đột ngột như phường cướp tấn công.
