Proverbs 23
1 When thou sittest to eat with a ruler, consider diligently what [is] before thee:
೧ನೀನು ಅಧಿಪತಿಯ ಸಂಗಡ ಊಟಕ್ಕೆ ಕುಳಿತುಕೊಂಡಿರುವಾಗ, ನಿನ್ನ ಮುಂದಿಟ್ಟಿರುವುದರ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಎಚ್ಚರಿಕೆಯಾಗಿರು.
2 And put a knife to thy throat, if thou [be] a man given to appetite.
೨ನೀನು ಹೊಟ್ಟೆಬಾಕನಾಗಿದ್ದರೆ, ನಿನ್ನ ಗಂಟಲಿಗೆ ಕತ್ತಿಹಾಕಿಕೋ.
3 Be not desirous of his dainties: for they [are] deceitful meat.
೩ಅವನ ರುಚಿಪದಾರ್ಥಗಳನ್ನು ಬಯಸಬೇಡ, ಅದು ಮೋಸದ ಆಹಾರವೇ ಸರಿ.
4 Labour not to be rich: cease from thine own wisdom.
೪ದುಡ್ಡಿನಾಶೆಯಿಂದ ದುಡಿಯಬೇಡ, ಸ್ವಬುದ್ಧಿಯನ್ನೇ ಆಶ್ರಯಿಸಬೇಡ.
5 Wilt thou set thine eyes upon that which is not? for [riches] certainly make themselves wings; they fly away as an eagle toward heaven.
೫ನಿನ್ನ ದೃಷ್ಟಿಯು ಐಶ್ವರ್ಯದ ಮೇಲೆ ಎರಗುತ್ತದೋ? ಐಶ್ವರ್ಯವು ಅಷ್ಟರೊಳಗೆ ಮಾಯವಾಗುವುದು, ಆಕಾಶದ ಕಡೆಗೆ ಹಾರುವ ಹದ್ದಿನಂತೆ, ಅದು ರೆಕ್ಕೆಗಳನ್ನು ಕಟ್ಟಿಕೊಂಡಿದೆ.
6 Eat thou not the bread of [him that hath] an evil eye, neither desire thou his dainty meats:
೬ಲೋಭಿಯ ಅನ್ನವನ್ನು ಉಣ್ಣದಿರು, ಅವನ ರುಚಿಪದಾರ್ಥಗಳನ್ನು ಬಯಸಬೇಡ.
7 For as he thinketh in his heart, so [is] he: Eat and drink, saith he to thee; but his heart [is] not with thee.
೭ಅವನು ತನ್ನ ಒಳಗಿನ ಯೋಚನೆಯಂತೆಯೇ ಇದ್ದಾನೆ, ಉಣ್ಣು, ಕುಡಿ ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಿದರೂ ನಿನ್ನಲ್ಲಿ ಅವನಿಗೆ ಪ್ರೀತಿಯಿಲ್ಲ.
8 The morsel [which] thou hast eaten shalt thou vomit up, and lose thy sweet words.
೮ನೀನು ತಿಂದ ತುತ್ತನ್ನು ಕಕ್ಕಿಬಿಡುವಿ, ನಿನ್ನ ಸವಿಮಾತುಗಳು ವ್ಯರ್ಥ.
9 Speak not in the ears of a fool: for he will despise the wisdom of thy words.
೯ಮೂಢನ ಸಂಗಡ ಮಾತನಾಡಬೇಡ, ನಿನ್ನ ಮಾತುಗಳ ವಿವೇಕವನ್ನು ತಿರಸ್ಕರಿಸುವನು.
10 Remove not the old landmark; and enter not into the fields of the fatherless:
೧೦ಪೂರ್ವಕಾಲದ ಮೇರೆಯನ್ನು ತೆಗೆದುಹಾಕಬೇಡ, ಅನಾಥರ ಹೊಲಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ನುಗ್ಗಬೇಡ.
11 For their redeemer [is] mighty; he shall plead their cause with thee.
೧೧ಅವರ ರಕ್ಷಕನು ಬಲಶಾಲಿಯಾಗಿದ್ದಾನೆ, ಅವರಿಗಾಗಿ ನಿನ್ನ ಸಂಗಡ ವ್ಯಾಜ್ಯವಾಡುವನು.
12 Apply thine heart unto instruction, and thine ears to the words of knowledge.
೧೨ಉಪದೇಶವನ್ನು ಮನಸ್ಸಿಗೆ ತೆಗೆದುಕೋ, ತಿಳಿವಳಿಕೆಯ ಮಾತುಗಳಿಗೆ ಕಿವಿಗೊಡು.
13 Withhold not correction from the child: for [if] thou beatest him with the rod, he shall not die.
೧೩ಹುಡುಗನ ಶಿಕ್ಷೆಗೆ ಹಿಂತೆಗೆಯಬೇಡ, ಅವನು ಬೆತ್ತದ ಏಟಿಗೆ ಸಾಯನು.
೧೪ಬೆತ್ತದಿಂದ ಹೊಡೆ, ಅವನ ಆತ್ಮವನ್ನು ಪಾತಾಳಕ್ಕೆ ಬೀಳದಂತೆ ಕಾಪಾಡು. (Sheol h7585)
15 My son, if thine heart be wise, my heart shall rejoice, even mine.
೧೫ಕಂದಾ, ನಿನ್ನ ಮನಸ್ಸಿಗೆ ಜ್ಞಾನವುಂಟಾದರೆ ನನ್ನ ಮನಸ್ಸಿಗೂ ಉಲ್ಲಾಸವಾಗುವುದು.
16 Yea, my reins shall rejoice, when thy lips speak right things.
೧೬ಹೌದು, ನಿನ್ನ ತುಟಿಗಳು ನೀತಿಯ ನುಡಿಗಳನ್ನಾಡಿದರೆ ನನ್ನ ಅಂತರಾತ್ಮವು ಹಿಗ್ಗುವುದು.
17 Let not thine heart envy sinners: but [be thou] in the fear of the LORD all the day long.
೧೭ಪಾಪಿಗಳನ್ನು ನೋಡಿ ಹೊಟ್ಟೆಕಿಚ್ಚುಪಡಬೇಡ, ಯೆಹೋವನಲ್ಲಿ ನಿರಂತರವಾಗಿ ಭಯಭಕ್ತಿಯುಳ್ಳವನಾಗಿರು.
18 For surely there is an end; and thine expectation shall not be cut off.
೧೮ಒಂದು ಕಾಲ ಉಂಟು, ನಿನ್ನ ನಿರೀಕ್ಷೆಯು ನಿರರ್ಥಕವಾಗದು.
19 Hear thou, my son, and be wise, and guide thine heart in the way.
೧೯ಕಂದಾ, ಕೇಳು, ಜ್ಞಾನವಂತನಾಗಿರು, ನಿನ್ನ ಮನಸ್ಸನ್ನು ಜ್ಞಾನದ ಮಾರ್ಗದಲ್ಲಿ ಮುಂದೆ ನಡೆಯಿಸು.
20 Be not among winebibbers; among riotous eaters of flesh:
೨೦ಕುಡುಕರಲ್ಲಿಯೂ, ಅತಿಮಾಂಸಭಕ್ಷಕರಲ್ಲಿಯೂ ಸೇರದಿರು.
21 For the drunkard and the glutton shall come to poverty: and drowsiness shall clothe [a man] with rags.
೨೧ಕುಡುಕರು, ಹೊಟ್ಟೆಬಾಕರು ದುರ್ಗತಿಗೆ ಬರುವರು, ನಿದ್ರಾಸಕ್ತಿಯು ಹರಕು ಬಟ್ಟೆಗಳನ್ನು ಹೊದಿಸುವುದು.
22 Hearken unto thy father that begat thee, and despise not thy mother when she is old.
೨೨ಹೆತ್ತ ತಂದೆಯ ಮಾತಿಗೆ ಕಿವಿಗೊಡು, ಮುಪ್ಪಿನಲ್ಲಿಯೂ ತಾಯಿಯನ್ನು ಅಸಡ್ಡೆಮಾಡಬೇಡ.
23 Buy the truth, and sell [it] not; [also] wisdom, and instruction, and understanding.
೨೩ಸತ್ಯವನ್ನು ಎಂದರೆ ಜ್ಞಾನ, ಸುಶಿಕ್ಷೆ, ವಿವೇಕಗಳನ್ನು ಕೊಂಡುಕೋ, ಮಾರಿ ಬಿಡಬೇಡ.
24 The father of the righteous shall greatly rejoice: and he that begetteth a wise [child] shall have joy of him.
೨೪ಧರ್ಮಿಯ ತಂದೆಯು ಅತಿ ಸಂತೋಷಪಡುವನು, ಜ್ಞಾನಿಯನ್ನು ಹೆತ್ತವನು ಅವನಲ್ಲಿ ಆನಂದಿಸುವನು.
25 Thy father and thy mother shall be glad, and she that bare thee shall rejoice.
೨೫ನಿನ್ನ ತಂದೆತಾಯಿಗಳು ಉಲ್ಲಾಸಗೊಳ್ಳಲಿ, ನಿನ್ನನ್ನು ಹೆತ್ತವಳು ಆನಂದಪಡಲಿ.
26 My son, give me thine heart, and let thine eyes observe my ways.
೨೬ಕಂದಾ, ನಿನ್ನ ಹೃದಯವನ್ನು ನನಗೆ ಕೊಡು, ನಿನ್ನ ಕಣ್ಣುಗಳು ನನ್ನ ಮಾರ್ಗಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಆನಂದಿಸಲಿ.
27 For a whore [is] a deep ditch; and a strange woman [is] a narrow pit.
೨೭ಸೂಳೆಯು ಆಳವಾದ ಹಳ್ಳ, ಜಾರಸ್ತ್ರೀಯು ಇಕ್ಕಟ್ಟಾದ ಗುಂಡಿ.
28 She also lieth in wait as [for] a prey, and increaseth the transgressors among men.
೨೮ಹೌದು, ಕಳ್ಳನಂತೆ ಹೊಂಚುಹಾಕುತ್ತಾಳೆ, ಜನರಲ್ಲಿ ದ್ರೋಹಿಗಳನ್ನು ಹೆಚ್ಚಿಸುತ್ತಾಳೆ.
29 Who hath woe? who hath sorrow? who hath contentions? who hath babbling? who hath wounds without cause? who hath redness of eyes?
೨೯ಅಯ್ಯಯ್ಯೋ ಅನ್ನುವವರು ಯಾರು? ಅಕಟಾ ಎಂದು ಕೂಗಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವವರು ಯಾರು? ಯಾರು ಜಗಳವಾಡುತ್ತಾರೆ? ಯಾರು ಗೋಳಾಡುತ್ತಾರೆ? ಯಾರು ಸುಮ್ಮಸುಮ್ಮನೆ ಗಾಯಪಡುತ್ತಾರೆ? ಕೆಂಪೇರಿದ ಕಣ್ಣುಳ್ಳವರು ಯಾರು?
30 They that tarry long at the wine; they that go to seek mixed wine.
೩೦ಅವರು ಮಿಶ್ರಮದ್ಯಪಾನಾಸಕ್ತರಾಗಿ, ದ್ರಾಕ್ಷಾರಸವನ್ನು ಕುಡಿಯುತ್ತಾ, ಕಾಲಹರಣಮಾಡುವವರೇ.
31 Look not thou upon the wine when it is red, when it giveth his colour in the cup, [when] it moveth itself aright.
೩೧ಪಾತ್ರೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಕೆಂಪಗೆ ಥಳಥಳಿಸುವ ದ್ರಾಕ್ಷಾರಸದ ಮೇಲೆ ಕಣ್ಣಿಡಬೇಡ. ಅದು ಗಂಟಲಿನೊಳಗೆ ಮೆಲ್ಲಗೆ ಇಳಿದುಹೋಗಿ
32 At the last it biteth like a serpent, and stingeth like an adder.
೩೨ಆಮೇಲೆ ಹಾವಿನಂತೆ ಕಚ್ಚುತ್ತದೆ, ಹೌದು, ನಾಗರ ಹಾವಿನ ಹಾಗೆ ಕಡಿಯುತ್ತದೆ.
33 Thine eyes shall behold strange women, and thine heart shall utter perverse things.
೩೩ನಿನ್ನ ಕಣ್ಣು ಇಲ್ಲದ್ದನ್ನೇ ಕಾಣುವುದು, ಮನಸ್ಸು ವಿಪರೀತಗಳನ್ನು ಹೊರಪಡಿಸುವುದು.
34 Yea, thou shalt be as he that lieth down in the midst of the sea, or as he that lieth upon the top of a mast.
೩೪ನೀನು ಸಮುದ್ರದ ನಡುವೆಯಾಗಲಿ, ಹಡಗಿನ ಕಂಬದ ತುದಿಯಲ್ಲಿಯಾಗಲಿ ಮಲಗಿರುವವನಂತೆ ಇರುವಿ.
35 They have stricken me, [shalt thou say, and] I was not sick; they have beaten me, [and] I felt [it] not: when shall I awake? I will seek it yet again.
೩೫ಜನರು ನನ್ನನ್ನು ಹೊಡೆದರೂ ನೋವಾಗಲಿಲ್ಲ, ಬಡಿದರೂ ತಿಳಿಯಲಿಲ್ಲ, ಯಾವಾಗ ಎಚ್ಚೆತ್ತೇನು? ಪುನಃ ಅದನ್ನೇ ಹುಡುಕೇನು ಎಂದುಕೊಳ್ಳುವಿ.
