< Proverbs 22 >

1 A [good] name [is] rather to be chosen than great riches, [and] loving favour rather than silver and gold.

2 The rich and poor meet together: the LORD [is] the maker of them all.

3 A prudent [man] foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself: but the simple pass on, and are punished.

4 By humility [and] the fear of the LORD [are] riches, and honour, and life.
Kodonah neh BOEIPA hinyahnah kah thapang tah, khuehtawn, thangpomnah neh hingnah la om.
5 Thorns [and] snares [are] in the way of the froward: he that doth keep his soul shall be far from them.
Voeldak kah longpuei ah pael phoh neh a hling a hang om. A hinglu aka ngaithuen long tah te te a lakhla tak.
6 Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.
Camoe te a long rhai ah nawn laeh. Te daengah ni a patong vaengah te lamkah te a nong pawt eh ni.
7 The rich ruleth over the poor, and the borrower [is] servant to the lender.
Hlanglen loh khodaeng a ngol thil tih cangpu aka rhong khaw cangpu aka hlah hlang kah sal la om.
8 He that soweth iniquity shall reap vanity: and the rod of his anger shall fail.
Dumlai aka soem loh boethae te a ah rhoela a ah. Tedae amah kah thinpom caitueng loh a khah bitni.
9 He that hath a bountiful eye shall be blessed; for he giveth of his bread to the poor.

10 Cast out the scorner, and contention shall go out; yea, strife and reproach shall cease.
Hmuiyoi te haek lamtah olpungkacan te phuei saeh. Te vaengah dumlai neh a yah neh kangkuen saeh.
11 He that loveth pureness of heart, [for] the grace of his lips the king [shall be] his friend.
Lungbuei cim aka lungnah hlang tah a hmuilai khaw mikdaithen la om tih, manghai kah a paya la poeh.
12 The eyes of the LORD preserve knowledge, and he overthroweth the words of the transgressor.
BOEIPA kah mik loh mingnah te a kueinah tih, hnukpoh kah olka te a paimaelh pah.
13 The slothful [man] saith, [There is] a lion without, I shall be slain in the streets.
Kolhnaw long tah, “Kawtpoeng neh toltung lakli kah sathueng loh ng'ngawn ni ta,” a ti.
14 The mouth of strange women [is] a deep pit: he that is abhorred of the LORD shall fall therein.
Kholong nu kah a ka ngawn tah vaam a dung la om. BOEIPA kah kosi a sah thil te tah pahoi cungku rhoe cungku ni.
15 Foolishness [is] bound in the heart of a child; [but] the rod of correction shall drive it far from him.
Camoe kah lungbuei ah anglat a hlaengtang pah. Thuituennah caitueng loh a taeng lamkah a lakhla sak bitni.
16 He that oppresseth the poor to increase his [riches, and] he that giveth to the rich, [shall] surely [come] to want.
Amah kah rhoeng sak ham tattloel aka hnaemtaek, hlanglen taengla aka pae khaw, a tloelnah la rhep poeh ni.
17 Bow down thine ear, and hear the words of the wise, and apply thine heart unto my knowledge.
Na hna kaeng lamtah aka cueih rhoek kah olka te hnatun, kai kah mingnah he na lungbuei ah dueh lah.
18 For [it is] a pleasant thing if thou keep them within thee; they shall withal be fitted in thy lips.
Te te na ngaithuen atah na bung khuiah khaw dingsuek vetih, na hmuilai dongah khaw boeih cikngae ni.
19 That thy trust may be in the LORD, I have made known to thee this day, even to thee.
Tihnin ah namah khaw, na pangtungnah te BOEIPA dongah khueh sak ham ni, nang kan kam ming sak.
20 Have not I written to thee excellent things in counsels and knowledge,
Hlavai kah cilkhih neh mingnah sawmthum te nang hamla kan daek moenih a?
21 That I might make thee know the certainty of the words of truth; that thou mightest answer the words of truth to them that send unto thee?
Oltak ol te a tiktam la nang ming sak ham, oltak ol neh na thuung ham neh na tueih ham dae ni.
22 Rob not the poor, because he [is] poor: neither oppress the afflicted in the gate:
Tattloel tah a tattloel oeh dongah rheth boeh. Mangdaeng te khaw vongka ah phop boeh.
23 For the LORD will plead their cause, and spoil the soul of those that spoiled them.
BOEIPA loh amih kah tuituknah te a rhoe pah vetih, amih aka mom rhoek te a hinglu a mom pah ni.
24 Make no friendship with an angry man; and with a furious man thou shalt not go:
Thintoek hlang te luem puei boeh. Sue la aka om hlang taengah khaw mop boeh.
25 Lest thou learn his ways, and get a snare to thy soul.
Anih kah caehlong, caehlong ah na cang vetih, na hinglu te hlaeh dongah na man sak ve.
26 Be not thou [one] of them that strike hands, [or] of them that are sureties for debts.
Kut yut rhoek lakli ah, laiba dongah rhi aka khang rhoek lakli ah khaw, om boeh.
27 If thou hast nothing to pay, why should he take away thy bed from under thee?
A thuung ham na khueh pawt atah, balae tih, namah yueng la na thingkong te khuen saeh ne.
28 Remove not the ancient landmark, which thy fathers have set.
Khosuen kah khorhi, na pa rhoek loh a suem te rhawt boeh.
29 Seest thou a man diligent in his business? he shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before mean [men].
Hlang ke na hmuh vaengah a bisai thai nen ni manghai rhoek kah mikhmuh ah a pai eh. Hlang mailai tah a mikhmuh ah pai mahpawh.
