Proverbs 18
1 Through desire a man, having separated himself, seeketh [and] intermeddleth with all wisdom.
Човек самовољан тражи шта је њему мило и меша се у свашта.
2 A fool hath no delight in understanding, but that his heart may discover itself.
Безумнику није мио разум него да се јавља срце његово.
3 When the wicked cometh, [then] cometh also contempt, and with ignominy reproach.
Кад дође безбожник, дође и руг, и прекор са срамотом.
4 The words of a man’s mouth [are as] deep waters, [and] the wellspring of wisdom [as] a flowing brook.
Речи су из уста човечијих дубока вода, извор је мудрости поток који се разлива.
5 [It is] not good to accept the person of the wicked, to overthrow the righteous in judgment.
Није добро гледати безбожнику ко је, да се учини криво правом на суду.
6 A fool’s lips enter into contention, and his mouth calleth for strokes.
Усне безумникове пристају у свађу, и уста његова дозивају бој.
7 A fool’s mouth [is] his destruction, and his lips [are] the snare of his soul.
Безумнику су уста његова погибао, и усне његове пругло души његовој.
8 The words of a talebearer [are] as wounds, and they go down into the innermost parts of the belly.
Речи су опадачеве као избијених, али силазе унутра у трбух.
9 He also that is slothful in his work is brother to him that is a great waster.
И ко је немаран у послу свом брат је распикући.
10 The name of the LORD [is] a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.
Тврда је кула име Господње. К Њему ће побећи праведник, и биће у високом заклону.
11 The rich man’s wealth [is] his strong city, and as an high wall in his own conceit.
Богатство је богатом јак град и као висок зид у његовој мисли.
12 Before destruction the heart of man is haughty, and before honour [is] humility.
Пред пропаст подиже се срце човека, а пре славе иде смерност.
13 He that answereth a matter before he heareth [it], it [is] folly and shame unto him.
Ко одговара пре него чује, томе је лудост и срамота.
14 The spirit of a man will sustain his infirmity; but a wounded spirit who can bear?
Дух човечији сноси бол свој; а дух оборен ко ће подигнути?
15 The heart of the prudent getteth knowledge; and the ear of the wise seeketh knowledge.
Срце разумног човека добавља знање, и ухо мудрих тражи знање.
16 A man’s gift maketh room for him, and bringeth him before great men.
Дар човеку шири место и води га пред властеље.
17 [He that is] first in his own cause [seemeth] just; but his neighbour cometh and searcheth him.
Праведан се чини ко је први у својој распри, али кад дође ближњи његов, испитује се.
18 The lot causeth contentions to cease, and parteth between the mighty.
Распре прекида жреб, и између силних расуђује.
19 A brother offended [is harder to be won] than a strong city: and [their] contentions [are] like the bars of a castle.
Увређен је брат као тврд град, и свађа је као преворница на двору.
20 A man’s belly shall be satisfied with the fruit of his mouth; [and] with the increase of his lips shall he be filled.
Сваком се трбух сити плодом уста његових, дохотком од усна својих сити се.
21 Death and life [are] in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.
Смрт је и живот у власти језику, и ко га милује, јешће плод његов.
22 [Whoso] findeth a wife findeth a good [thing], and obtaineth favour of the LORD.
Ко је нашао жену, нашао је добро и добио љубав од Господа.
23 The poor useth intreaties; but the rich answereth roughly.
Сиромах говори молећи, а богат одговара оштро.
24 A man [that hath] friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend [that] sticketh closer than a brother.
Ко има пријатеља, ваља да поступа пријатељски, јер има пријатеља вернијих од брата.
