Proverbs 13
1 A wise son [heareth] his father’s instruction: but a scorner heareth not rebuke.
੧ਬੁੱਧਵਾਨ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਤਾਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਿਤਾ ਦੀ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਸੁਣਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਠੱਠਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਤਾੜਨਾ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੁਣਦਾ।
2 A man shall eat good by the fruit of [his] mouth: but the soul of the transgressors [shall eat] violence.
੨ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੇ ਮੂੰਹ ਦੇ ਫਲ ਤੋਂ ਭਲਿਆਈ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰੰਤੂ ਵਿਸ਼ਵਾਸਘਾਤੀ ਦਾ ਪੇਟ ਜ਼ੁਲਮ ਨਾਲ ਭਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
3 He that keepeth his mouth keepeth his life: [but] he that openeth wide his lips shall have destruction.
੩ਜੋ ਆਪਣੇ ਮੂੰਹ ਦੀ ਰਾਖੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਆਪਣੀ ਜਾਨ ਦੀ ਰਾਖੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਜੋ ਆਪਣੇ ਮੂੰਹ ਨੂੰ ਬੇਕਾਰ ਖੋਲਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਦੇ ਲਈ ਬਰਬਾਦੀ ਹੋਵੇਗੀ।
4 The soul of the sluggard desireth, and [hath] nothing: but the soul of the diligent shall be made fat.
੪ਆਲਸੀ ਦਾ ਜੀ ਲੋਚਦਾ ਤਾਂ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਉਹ ਨੂੰ ਲੱਭਦਾ ਕੁਝ ਵੀ ਨਹੀਂ, ਪਰ ਉੱਦਮੀ ਦੀ ਜਾਨ ਰਿਸ਼ਟ-ਪੁਸ਼ਟ ਹੋ ਜਾਵੇਗੀ।
5 A righteous [man] hateth lying: but a wicked [man] is loathsome, and cometh to shame.
੫ਧਰਮੀ ਨੂੰ ਝੂਠ ਤੋਂ ਨਫ਼ਰਤ ਆਉਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਦੁਸ਼ਟ ਸ਼ਰਮ ਦਾ ਕਾਰਨ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
6 Righteousness keepeth [him that is] upright in the way: but wickedness overthroweth the sinner.
੬ਜਿਹੜਾ ਸਿੱਧੀ ਚਾਲ ਚੱਲਦਾ ਹੈ, ਧਰਮ ਉਹ ਦੀ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਪਾਪੀ ਆਪਣੀ ਦੁਸ਼ਟਤਾ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਉਲਟ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
7 There is that maketh himself rich, yet [hath] nothing: [there is] that maketh himself poor, yet [hath] great riches.
੭ਕੋਈ ਤਾਂ ਧਨ ਨੂੰ ਇਕੱਠਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਫਿਰਦਾ ਪਰ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਕੋਲ ਕੁਝ ਵੀ ਨਹੀਂ, ਅਤੇ ਕੋਈ ਕੰਗਾਲ ਬਣਿਆ ਫਿਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਪਰ ਉਹ ਦੇ ਕੋਲ ਬਹੁਤ ਧਨ ਹੈ।
8 The ransom of a man’s life [are] his riches: but the poor heareth not rebuke.
੮ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਜਾਨ ਦਾ ਛੁਟਕਾਰਾ ਉਹ ਦਾ ਧਨ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਗਰੀਬ ਅਜਿਹੀ ਧਮਕੀ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਣਦਾ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ।
9 The light of the righteous rejoiceth: but the lamp of the wicked shall be put out.
੯ਧਰਮੀ ਦੀ ਜੋਤ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਨਾਉਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਦੁਸ਼ਟਾਂ ਦਾ ਦੀਵਾ ਬੁਝਾਇਆ ਜਾਵੇਗਾ।
10 Only by pride cometh contention: but with the well advised [is] wisdom.
੧੦ਹੰਕਾਰ ਨਾਲ ਝਗੜੇ ਹੀ ਝਗੜੇ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਪਰ ਜਿਹੜੇ ਸਲਾਹ ਨੂੰ ਮੰਨਦੇ ਹਨ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਕੋਲ ਸਮਝ ਹੈ।
11 Wealth [gotten] by vanity shall be diminished: but he that gathereth by labour shall increase.
੧੧ਵਿਅਰਥ ਦਾ ਧਨ ਘੱਟ ਜਾਵੇਗਾ, ਪਰ ਮਿਹਨਤ ਦਾ ਧਨ ਵਧ ਜਾਵੇਗਾ।
12 Hope deferred maketh the heart sick: but [when] the desire cometh, [it is] a tree of life.
੧੨ਜਦ ਆਸ ਪੂਰੀ ਹੋਣ ਵਿੱਚ ਦੇਰੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਦਿਲ ਨੂੰ ਤੋੜਦੀ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਆਸ ਦਾ ਪੂਰਾ ਹੋਣਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਦਾ ਰੁੱਖ ਹੈ।
13 Whoso despiseth the word shall be destroyed: but he that feareth the commandment shall be rewarded.
੧੩ਜਿਹੜਾ ਚੇਤਾਵਨੀ ਦੇ ਬਚਨ ਨੂੰ ਤੁੱਛ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਆਪਣਾ ਨਾਸ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਹੁਕਮ ਦਾ ਭੈਅ ਮੰਨਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਫਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
14 The law of the wise [is] a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death.
੧੪ਬੁੱਧਵਾਨ ਦੀ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਜੀਉਣ ਦਾ ਸੋਤਾ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਮੌਤ ਦੀ ਫਾਹੀ ਤੋਂ ਪਰੇ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ।
15 Good understanding giveth favour: but the way of transgressors [is] hard.
੧੫ਚੰਗੀ ਬੁੱਧ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਵਿਸ਼ਵਾਸਘਾਤੀਆਂ ਦਾ ਰਾਹ ਮੁਸ਼ਕਿਲਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਭਰਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
16 Every prudent [man] dealeth with knowledge: but a fool layeth open [his] folly.
੧੬ਹਰ ਸਿਆਣਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਬੁੱਧ ਨਾਲ ਕੰਮ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਮੂਰਖ ਆਪਣੀ ਮੂਰਖਤਾਈ ਨੂੰ ਫੈਲਾਉਂਦਾ ਫਿਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
17 A wicked messenger falleth into mischief: but a faithful ambassador [is] health.
੧੭ਦੁਸ਼ਟ ਸੰਦੇਸ਼ਵਾਹਕ ਬਿਪਤਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਡਿੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਵਫ਼ਾਦਾਰ ਸੰਦੇਸ਼ਵਾਹਕ ਚੰਗਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
18 Poverty and shame [shall be to] him that refuseth instruction: but he that regardeth reproof shall be honoured.
੧੮ਜਿਹੜਾ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਮੰਨਦਾ ਉਹ ਕੰਗਾਲ ਤੇ ਸ਼ਰਮਿੰਦਾ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ, ਪਰ ਜੋ ਤਾੜਨਾ ਵੱਲ ਮਨ ਲਗਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਆਦਰ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ।
19 The desire accomplished is sweet to the soul: but [it is] abomination to fools to depart from evil.
੧੯ਜਦ ਇੱਛਿਆ ਪੂਰੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਜੀਅ ਨੂੰ ਮਿੱਠਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਬੁਰਿਆਈ ਨੂੰ ਛੱਡਣਾ ਮੂਰਖ ਨੂੰ ਬੁਰਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ।
20 He that walketh with wise [men] shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed.
੨੦ਬੁੱਧਵਾਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਸਾਥੀ ਬੁੱਧਵਾਨ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਮੂਰਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਾਥੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਦੁੱਖ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ।
21 Evil pursueth sinners: but to the righteous good shall be repayed.
੨੧ਬਿਪਤਾ ਪਾਪੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਪੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਧਰਮੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਫਲ ਮਿਲੇਗਾ।
22 A good [man] leaveth an inheritance to his children’s children: and the wealth of the sinner [is] laid up for the just.
੨੨ਭਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੇ ਪੋਤਰਿਆਂ ਲਈ ਵੀ ਮਿਰਾਸ ਛੱਡ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਪਾਪੀ ਦਾ ਮਾਲ ਧੰਨ ਧਰਮੀ ਲਈ ਜੁੜਦਾ ਹੈ।
23 Much food [is in] the tillage of the poor: but there is [that is] destroyed for want of judgment.
੨੩ਗਰੀਬ ਦੀ ਪੈਲੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਢੇਰ ਸਾਰਾ ਅਹਾਰ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਅਜਿਹਾ ਵੀ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਕੁਨਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਉੱਜੜ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
24 He that spareth his rod hateth his son: but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes.
੨੪ਜਿਹੜਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਉੱਤੇ ਸੋਟੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਚਲਾਉਂਦਾ ਉਹ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਵੈਰੀ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਵੇਲੇ ਸਿਰ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਤਾੜਦਾ ਹੈ।
25 The righteous eateth to the satisfying of his soul: but the belly of the wicked shall want.
੨੫ਧਰਮੀ ਤਾਂ ਰੱਜ ਕੇ ਖਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਦੁਸ਼ਟਾਂ ਦਾ ਢਿੱਡ ਨਹੀਂ ਭਰਦਾ।
