Proverbs 12
1 Whoso loveth instruction loveth knowledge: but he that hateth reproof [is] brutish.
अनुशासन प्रिय व्यक्ति को बुद्धिमता से प्रेम है, किंतु मूर्ख होता है वह, जिसे अप्रिय होती है सुधारना.
2 A good [man] obtaineth favour of the LORD: but a man of wicked devices will he condemn.
धर्मी व्यक्ति को याहवेह की कृपादृष्टि प्राप्त हो जाती है, किंतु जो दुष्कर्म की युक्ति करता रहता है, उसके लिए याहवेह का दंड नियत है.
3 A man shall not be established by wickedness: but the root of the righteous shall not be moved.
किसी को स्थिर करने में दुष्टता कोई भी योग नहीं देती, किंतु धर्मी के मूल को कभी उखाड़ा नहीं जा सकता.
4 A virtuous woman [is] a crown to her husband: but she that maketh ashamed [is] as rottenness in his bones.
अच्छे चाल-चलनवाली पत्नी अपने पति का शिरोमणि होती है, किंतु वह पत्नी, जो पति के लिए लज्जा का विषय है, मानो पति की अस्थियों में लगा रोग है.
5 The thoughts of the righteous [are] right: [but] the counsels of the wicked [are] deceit.
धर्मी की धारणाएं न्याय संगत होती हैं, किंतु दुष्ट व्यक्ति के परामर्श छल-कपट पूर्ण होते हैं.
6 The words of the wicked [are] to lie in wait for blood: but the mouth of the upright shall deliver them.
दुष्ट व्यक्ति के शब्द ही रक्तपात के लिए उच्चारे जाते हैं. किंतु सज्जन व्यक्ति की बातें लोगों को छुड़ाने वाली होती हैं.
7 The wicked are overthrown, and [are] not: but the house of the righteous shall stand.
बुराइयां उखाड़ फेंकी जाती हैं और उनकी स्मृति भी शेष नहीं रहती, किंतु धार्मिक का परिवार स्थिर खड़ा रहता है.
8 A man shall be commended according to his wisdom: but he that is of a perverse heart shall be despised.
बुद्धिमान की बुद्धि उसे प्रशंसा प्रदान करती है, किंतु कुटिल मनोवृत्ति के व्यक्ति को घृणित समझा जाता है.
9 [He that is] despised, and hath a servant, [is] better than he that honoureth himself, and lacketh bread.
सामान्य व्यक्ति होकर भी सेवक रखने की क्षमता जिसे है, वह उस व्यक्ति से श्रेष्ठतर है, जो बड़प्पन तो दिखाता है, किंतु खाने की रोटी का भी अभाव में है.
10 A righteous [man] regardeth the life of his beast: but the tender mercies of the wicked [are] cruel.
धर्मी अपने पालतू पशु के जीवन का भी ध्यान रखता है, किंतु दुर्जन द्वारा प्रदर्शित दया भी निर्दयता ही होती है.
11 He that tilleth his land shall be satisfied with bread: but he that followeth vain [persons is] void of understanding.
जो किसान अपनी भूमि की जुताई-गुड़ाई करता रहता है, उसे भोजन का अभाव नहीं होता, किंतु जो व्यर्थ कार्यों में समय नष्ट करता है, निर्बुद्धि प्रमाणित होता है.
12 The wicked desireth the net of evil [men: ] but the root of the righteous yieldeth [fruit].
दुष्ट बुराइयों द्वारा लूटी गई संपत्ति की लालसा करता है, किंतु धर्मी की जड़ फलवंत होती है.
13 The wicked is snared by the transgression of [his] lips: but the just shall come out of trouble.
बुरा व्यक्ति अपने ही मुख की बातों से फंस जाता है, किंतु धर्मी संकट से बच निकलता है.
14 A man shall be satisfied with good by the fruit of [his] mouth: and the recompence of a man’s hands shall be rendered unto him.
समझदार शब्द कई लाभ लाते हैं, और कड़ी मेहनत प्रतिफल लाती है.
15 The way of a fool [is] right in his own eyes: but he that hearkeneth unto counsel [is] wise.
मूर्ख की दृष्टि में उसकी अपनी कार्यशैली योग्य लगती है, किंतु ज्ञानवान परामर्श की विवेचना करता है.
16 A fool’s wrath is presently known: but a prudent [man] covereth shame.
मूर्ख अपना क्रोध शीघ्र ही प्रकट करता है, किंतु व्यवहार कुशल व्यक्ति अपमान को अनदेखा करता है.
17 [He that] speaketh truth sheweth forth righteousness: but a false witness deceit.
सत्यवादी की साक्ष्य सत्य ही होती है, किंतु झूठा छलयुक्त साक्ष्य देता है.
18 There is that speaketh like the piercings of a sword: but the tongue of the wise [is] health.
असावधानी में कहा गया शब्द तलवार समान बेध जाता है, किंतु बुद्धिमान के शब्द चंगाई करने में सिद्ध होते हैं.
19 The lip of truth shall be established for ever: but a lying tongue [is] but for a moment.
सच्चाई के वचन चिरस्थायी सिद्ध होते हैं, किंतु झूठ बोलने वाली जीभ पल भर की होती है!
20 Deceit [is] in the heart of them that imagine evil: but to the counsellors of peace [is] joy.
बुराई की युक्ति करनेवाले के हृदय में छल होता है, किंतु जो मेल स्थापना का प्रयास करते हैं, हर्षित बने रहते हैं.
21 There shall no evil happen to the just: but the wicked shall be filled with mischief.
धर्मी पर हानि का प्रभाव ही नहीं होता, किंतु दुर्जन सदैव संकट का सामना करते रहते हैं.
22 Lying lips [are] abomination to the LORD: but they that deal truly [are] his delight.
झूठ बोलनेवाले ओंठ याहवेह के समक्ष घृणास्पद हैं, किंतु उनकी प्रसन्नता खराई में बनी रहती है.
23 A prudent man concealeth knowledge: but the heart of fools proclaimeth foolishness.
चतुर व्यक्ति ज्ञान को प्रगट नहीं करता, किंतु मूर्ख के हृदय मूर्खता का प्रसार करता है.
24 The hand of the diligent shall bear rule: but the slothful shall be under tribute.
सावधान और परिश्रमी व्यक्ति शासक के पद तक उन्नत होता है, किंतु आलसी व्यक्ति को गुलाम बनना पड़ता है.
25 Heaviness in the heart of man maketh it stoop: but a good word maketh it glad.
चिंता का बोझ किसी भी व्यक्ति को दबा छोड़ता है, किंतु सांत्वना का मात्र एक शब्द उसमें आनंद को भर देता है.
26 The righteous [is] more excellent than his neighbour: but the way of the wicked seduceth them.
धर्मी अपने पड़ोसी के लिए मार्गदर्शक हो जाता है, किंतु बुरे व्यक्ति का चालचलन उसे भटका देता है.
27 The slothful [man] roasteth not that which he took in hunting: but the substance of a diligent man [is] precious.
आलसी के पास पकाने के लिए अन्न ही नहीं रह जाता, किंतु परिश्रमी व्यक्ति के पास भरपूर संपत्ति जमा हो जाती है.
28 In the way of righteousness [is] life; and [in] the pathway [thereof there is] no death.
धर्म का मार्ग ही जीवन है; और उसके मार्ग पर अमरत्व है.
