Proverbs 11
1 A false balance [is] abomination to the LORD: but a just weight [is] his delight.
সদাপ্রভু অসাধু দাঁড়িপাল্লা ঘৃণা করেন, কিন্তু সঠিক বাটখারা তাঁকে সন্তুষ্ট করে।
2 [When] pride cometh, then cometh shame: but with the lowly [is] wisdom.
যখন অহংকার আসে, তখন অপমানও আসে, কিন্তু নম্রতার সঙ্গে আসে প্রজ্ঞা।
3 The integrity of the upright shall guide them: but the perverseness of transgressors shall destroy them.
ন্যায়পরায়ণদের সততাই তাদের পথ দেখায়, কিন্তু বিশ্বাসঘাতকেরা তাদের ছলনা দ্বারা ধ্বংস হয়ে যায়।
4 Riches profit not in the day of wrath: but righteousness delivereth from death.
ক্রোধের দিনে ধনসম্পত্তি মূল্যহীন হয়ে যায়, কিন্তু ধার্মিকতা মৃত্যু থেকে রক্ষা করে।
5 The righteousness of the perfect shall direct his way: but the wicked shall fall by his own wickedness.
অনিন্দনীয়দের ধার্মিকতা তাদের পথগুলি সোজা করে, কিন্তু দুষ্টেরা তাদের দুষ্টতা দ্বারাই পতিত হয়।
6 The righteousness of the upright shall deliver them: but transgressors shall be taken in [their own] naughtiness.
ন্যায়পরায়ণদের ধার্মিকতাই তাদের উদ্ধার করে, কিন্তু অবিশ্বস্তেরা মন্দ বাসনা দ্বারা ফাঁদে পড়ে।
7 When a wicked man dieth, [his] expectation shall perish: and the hope of unjust [men] perisheth.
নশ্বর মানুষে স্থাপিত আশা তাদের সাথেই নষ্ট হয়; তাদের ক্ষমতার সব প্রতিজ্ঞা নিষ্ফল হয়।
8 The righteous is delivered out of trouble, and the wicked cometh in his stead.
ধার্মিকেরা সংকট থেকে উদ্ধার পায়, ও তা তাদের পরিবর্তে দুষ্টদের উপরেই গিয়ে পড়ে।
9 An hypocrite with [his] mouth destroyeth his neighbour: but through knowledge shall the just be delivered.
অধার্মিকরা তাদের মুখ দিয়ে তাদের প্রতিবেশীদের সর্বনাশ করে, কিন্তু জ্ঞানের মাধ্যমে ধার্মিকেরা অব্যাহতি পায়।
10 When it goeth well with the righteous, the city rejoiceth: and when the wicked perish, [there is] shouting.
ধার্মিকেরা যখন উন্নতি লাভ করে, তখন নগরে আনন্দ হয়, দুষ্টেরা যখন বিনষ্ট হয়, তখনও আনন্দের রব ওঠে।
11 By the blessing of the upright the city is exalted: but it is overthrown by the mouth of the wicked.
ন্যায়পরায়ণদের আশীর্বাদে নগর উন্নত হয়, কিন্তু দুষ্টদের মুখের কথা দ্বারা তা ধ্বংস হয়।
12 He that is void of wisdom despiseth his neighbour: but a man of understanding holdeth his peace.
যারা তাদের প্রতিবেশীকে ঠাট্টা করে তাদের কোনও বোধবুদ্ধি নেই, কিন্তু যাদের বুদ্ধি আছে তারা তাদের জিভকে সংযত রাখে।
13 A talebearer revealeth secrets: but he that is of a faithful spirit concealeth the matter.
পরনিন্দা পরচর্চা আস্থা ভঙ্গ করে, কিন্তু নির্ভরযোগ্য মানুষ গোপনীয়তা বজায় রাখে।
14 Where no counsel [is], the people fall: but in the multitude of counsellors [there is] safety.
নেতৃত্বের অভাবে জাতির পতন হয়, কিন্তু উপদেশকদের সংখ্যা বেশি হলে জয় সুনিশ্চিত হয়।
15 He that is surety for a stranger shall smart [for it: ] and he that hateth suretiship is sure.
যে অপরিচিত লোকের জামিনদার হয় সে নিশ্চয় কষ্টভোগ করবে, কিন্তু যে অন্যের ঋণ শোধ করার দায়িত্ব নিতে অস্বীকার করে সে নিরাপদে থাকে।
16 A gracious woman retaineth honour: and strong [men] retain riches.
সহৃদয়া নারী সম্মান অর্জন করে, কিন্তু নির্মম লোকেরা শুধু ধনসম্পত্তিই লাভ করে।
17 The merciful man doeth good to his own soul: but [he that is] cruel troubleth his own flesh.
যারা দয়ালু তারা নিজেদের উপকার করে, কিন্তু নিষ্ঠুর লোকেরা নিজেদের সর্বনাশ ডেকে আনে।
18 The wicked worketh a deceitful work: but to him that soweth righteousness [shall be] a sure reward.
দুষ্টলোক অসৎ প্রতারণাপূর্ণ বেতন উপার্জন করে, কিন্তু যে ধার্মিকতা বোনে সে নিশ্চিত প্রতিদান কাটে।
19 As righteousness [tendeth] to life: so he that pursueth evil [pursueth it] to his own death.
প্রকৃতপক্ষে ধার্মিক মানুষ জীবন লাভ করে, কিন্তু যে কেউ মন্দের পশ্চাদ্ধাবন করে সে মৃত্যুর সন্ধান পায়।
20 They that are of a froward heart [are] abomination to the LORD: but [such as are] upright in [their] way [are] his delight.
যাদের মন উচ্ছৃঙ্খল সদাপ্রভু তাদের ঘৃণা করেন, কিন্তু যারা অনিন্দনীয় পথে চলে তাদের নিয়ে তিনি আনন্দ করেন।
21 [Though] hand [join] in hand, the wicked shall not be unpunished: but the seed of the righteous shall be delivered.
তুমি এই বিষয়ে নিশ্চিত থেকো: দুষ্ট অদণ্ডিত থাকবে না, কিন্তু যারা ধার্মিক তারা রক্ষা পাবে।
22 [As] a jewel of gold in a swine’s snout, [so is] a fair woman which is without discretion.
যেমন শূকরের নাকে সোনার নথ তেমনি সেই সুন্দরী নারী যে কোনো বিচক্ষণতা দেখায় না।
23 The desire of the righteous [is] only good: [but] the expectation of the wicked [is] wrath.
ধার্মিকদের বাসনা শুধু মঙ্গলের কাছে গিয়ে শেষ হয়, কিন্তু দুষ্টদের প্রত্যাশা শেষ হয় শুধু ক্রোধের কাছে গিয়ে।
24 There is that scattereth, and yet increaseth; and [there is] that withholdeth more than is meet, but [it tendeth] to poverty.
কেউ একজন মুক্তহস্তে দান করে, অথচ সে আরও বেশি লাভবান হয়; অন্য কেউ অযথা কৃপণতা করে, কিন্তু দারিদ্রে পৌঁছে যায়।
25 The liberal soul shall be made fat: and he that watereth shall be watered also himself.
অকৃপণ ব্যক্তি উন্নতি লাভ করবে; যে কেউ অন্যান্য লোকদের পুনরুজ্জীবিত করে সেও পুনরুজ্জীবিত হবে।
26 He that withholdeth corn, the people shall curse him: but blessing [shall be] upon the head of him that selleth [it].
যে শস্য মজুত করে রাখে লোকে তাকে অভিশাপ দেয়, কিন্তু যে তা বিক্রি করতে চায় তার জন্য তারা ঈশ্বরের কাছে আশীর্বাদ প্রার্থনা করে।
27 He that diligently seeketh good procureth favour: but he that seeketh mischief, it shall come unto him.
যে কেউ মঙ্গলকামনা করে সে অনুগ্রহ পায়, কিন্তু যে অমঙ্গল খুঁজে বেড়ায় তার জীবনেই অমঙ্গল নেমে আসে।
28 He that trusteth in his riches shall fall: but the righteous shall flourish as a branch.
যারা তাদের ধনদৌলতের উপর নির্ভর করে তাদের পতন হবে, কিন্তু ধার্মিকেরা গাছের সবুজ পাতার মতো উন্নতি লাভ করবে।
29 He that troubleth his own house shall inherit the wind: and the fool [shall be] servant to the wise of heart.
যারা তাদের পরিবারে সর্বনাশ ডেকে আনে তারা উত্তরাধিকারসূত্রে শুধু বাতাসই পাবে, ও মূর্খেরা জ্ঞানবানের দাস হবে।
30 The fruit of the righteous [is] a tree of life; and he that winneth souls [is] wise.
ধার্মিকের ফল জীবনবৃক্ষ, ও যে জ্ঞানবান সে প্রাণরক্ষা করে।
31 Behold, the righteous shall be recompensed in the earth: much more the wicked and the sinner.
ধার্মিকেরা যদি এই পৃথিবীতেই তাদের প্রাপ্য পেয়ে যায়, তবে অধার্মিকরা ও পাপীরা আরও কত না বেশি পাবে!
