Nahum 3
1 Woe to the bloody city! it [is] all full of lies [and] robbery; the prey departeth not;
Wehe der blutbefleckten Stadt, die ganz angefüllt ist mit Trug und Gewalttat und die kein Ende des Raubens findet!
2 The noise of a whip, and the noise of the rattling of the wheels, and of the pransing horses, and of the jumping chariots.
Horch Peitschenknall, horch Rädergerassel! Jagende Rosse und rollende Wagen,
3 The horseman lifteth up both the bright sword and the glittering spear: and [there is] a multitude of slain, and a great number of carcases; and [there is] none end of [their] corpses; they stumble upon their corpses:
heransprengende Reiter, funkelnde Schwerter und blitzende Speere! Durchbohrte in Menge, Haufen von Toten und zahllose Leichen – man strauchelt über die Leichen!
4 Because of the multitude of the whoredoms of the wellfavoured harlot, the mistress of witchcrafts, that selleth nations through her whoredoms, and families through her witchcrafts.
Und (das alles) wegen der vielen Buhlereien der holdseligen, verführerischen Buhlerin, die ganze Völker mit ihrer Buhlerei berückte und Völkerschaften mit ihren Zauberkünsten (umgarnte).
5 Behold, I [am] against thee, saith the LORD of hosts; and I will discover thy skirts upon thy face, and I will shew the nations thy nakedness, and the kingdoms thy shame.
»Nunmehr will ich an dich« – so lautet der Ausspruch des HERRN der Heerscharen – »und will deine Schleppe dir übers Gesicht ziehen und den Völkern deine Blöße zeigen und den Königreichen deine Scham.
6 And I will cast abominable filth upon thee, and make thee vile, and will set thee as a gazingstock.
Ich will dich mit Unrat bewerfen und dich dadurch entehren und dich zu einem Schauspiel machen,
7 And it shall come to pass, [that] all they that look upon thee shall flee from thee, and say, Nineveh is laid waste: who will bemoan her? whence shall I seek comforters for thee?
daß alle, die dich erblicken, vor dir fliehen und ausrufen: ›Zerstört ist Ninive! Wer möchte ihm Beileid bezeigen? Wo soll ich Tröster für dich ausfindig machen?‹«
8 Art thou better than populous No, that was situate among the rivers, [that had] the waters round about it, whose rampart [was] the sea, [and] her wall [was] from the sea?
Bist du etwa besser als No Ammon, die an den Nilarmen thronte, rings von Wasser umgeben? die Stadt, deren Außenwerk der Nilstrom bildete und deren Mauer aus Wasser bestand?
9 Ethiopia and Egypt [were] her strength, and [it was] infinite; Put and Lubim were thy helpers.
Äthiopier waren ihre Stärke und Ägypter ohne Zahl; Put und die Libyer standen ihr zu Gebot.
10 Yet [was] she carried away, she went into captivity: her young children also were dashed in pieces at the top of all the streets: and they cast lots for her honourable men, and all her great men were bound in chains.
Doch auch sie ist der Verbannung verfallen, ist in die Gefangenschaft gewandert, auch ihre Kinder sind an allen Straßenecken zerschmettert worden; über ihre Edlen warf man das Los, und alle ihre Großen wurden mit Ketten gefesselt.
11 Thou also shalt be drunken: thou shalt be hid, thou also shalt seek strength because of the enemy.
So sollst auch du, Ninive, trunken werden, sollst umnachtet daliegen; auch du sollst Zuflucht vor dem Feinde suchen müssen!
12 All thy strong holds [shall be like] fig trees with the firstripe figs: if they be shaken, they shall even fall into the mouth of the eater.
Alle deine Festungen sind wie Feigenbäume mit Frühfeigen: werden sie geschüttelt, fallen sie dem, der essen will, in den Mund.
13 Behold, thy people in the midst of thee [are] women: the gates of thy land shall be set wide open unto thine enemies: the fire shall devour thy bars.
Wisse wohl: dein Kriegsvolk ist zu Weibern in deiner Mitte geworden; deinen Feinden stehen die Tore deines Landes weit offen, Feuer verzehrt deine Riegel.
14 Draw thee waters for the siege, fortify thy strong holds: go into clay, and tread the morter, make strong the brickkiln.
Schöpfe dir Wasser für die (Zeit der) Belagerung, mache deine Festungswerke stärker! tritt in den Lehm und stampfe Ton, nimm die Ziegelform zur Hand!
15 There shall the fire devour thee; the sword shall cut thee off, it shall eat thee up like the cankerworm: make thyself many as the cankerworm, make thyself many as the locusts.
Trotzdem wird das Feuer dich fressen, wird das Schwert dich vertilgen, dich verzehren wie die Freßgrillen verzehren. Magst du auch zahlreich sein wie ein Freßgrillenschwarm, zahllos wie ein Heuschreckenvolk,
16 Thou hast multiplied thy merchants above the stars of heaven: the cankerworm spoileth, and flieth away.
magst du auch mehr Krämer haben, als Sterne am Himmel sind: – die Freßgrillen häuten sich und fliegen davon!
17 Thy crowned [are] as the locusts, and thy captains as the great grasshoppers, which camp in the hedges in the cold day, [but] when the sun ariseth they flee away, and their place is not known where they [are].
Deine Fürsten gleichen den Heuschrecken und deine Hofleute den Grillenschwärmen, die sich bei kaltem Wetter an den Mauern lagern; geht aber die Sonne auf, so fliegen sie davon, und niemand weiß, wo sie geblieben sind.
18 Thy shepherds slumber, O king of Assyria: thy nobles shall dwell [in the dust: ] thy people is scattered upon the mountains, and no man gathereth [them].
Entschlafen sind deine Hirten, König von Assyrien, entschlummert deine Großen! Dein Kriegsvolk hat sich auf den Bergen zerstreut, und niemand ist da, der es sammelt!
19 [There is] no healing of thy bruise; thy wound is grievous: all that hear the bruit of thee shall clap the hands over thee: for upon whom hath not thy wickedness passed continually?
Keine Linderung gibt es für deine Wunde, unheilbar ist der Schlag, der dich getroffen! Alle, welche die Kunde von dir vernehmen, klatschen über dich in die Hände; denn über wen wäre nicht deine Bosheit ohne Unterlaß dahingegangen?
