Matthew 1
1 The book of the generation of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham.
Livre de la généalogie de Jésus-Christ, fils de David, fils d’Abraham.
2 Abraham begat Isaac; and Isaac begat Jacob; and Jacob begat Judas and his brethren;
Abraham engendra Isaac. Isaac engendra Jacob. Jacob engendra Juda et ses frères.
3 And Judas begat Phares and Zara of Thamar; and Phares begat Esrom; and Esrom begat Aram;
Juda engendra de Thamar, Pharès et Zara. Pharès engendra Esron. Esron engendra Aram.
4 And Aram begat Aminadab; and Aminadab begat Naasson; and Naasson begat Salmon;
Aram engendra Aminadab. Aminadab engendra Naasson. Naasson engendra Salmon.
5 And Salmon begat Booz of Rachab; and Booz begat Obed of Ruth; and Obed begat Jesse;
Salmon engendra de Rahab, Booz. Booz engendra de Ruth, Obed. Obed engendra Jessé. Et Jessé engendra David, roi.
6 And Jesse begat David the king; and David the king begat Solomon of her [that had been the wife] of Urias;
David, roi, engendra Salomon, de celle qui fut femme d’Urie.
7 And Solomon begat Roboam; and Roboam begat Abia; and Abia begat Asa;
Salomon engendra Roboam. Roboam engendra Abias. Abias engendra Asa.
8 And Asa begat Josaphat; and Josaphat begat Joram; and Joram begat Ozias;
Asa engendra Josaphat. Josaphat engendra Joram. Joram engendra Ozias.
9 And Ozias begat Joatham; and Joatham begat Achaz; and Achaz begat Ezekias;
Ozias engendra Joatham. Joatham engendra Achaz. Achaz engendra Ezéchias.
10 And Ezekias begat Manasses; and Manasses begat Amon; and Amon begat Josias;
Ezéchias engendra Manassé. Manassé engendra Amon. Amon engendra Josias.
11 And Josias begat Jechonias and his brethren, about the time they were carried away to Babylon:
Josias engendra Jéchonias et ses frères vers la transmigration de Babylone.
12 And after they were brought to Babylon, Jechonias begat Salathiel; and Salathiel begat Zorobabel;
Et après la transmigration de Babylone, Jéchonias engendra Salathiel. Salathiel engendra Zorobabel.
13 And Zorobabel begat Abiud; and Abiud begat Eliakim; and Eliakim begat Azor;
Zorobabel engendra Ahiud. Ahiud engendra Eliacim. Eliacim engendra Azor.
14 And Azor begat Sadoc; and Sadoc begat Achim; and Achim begat Eliud;
Azor engendra Sadoc. Sadoc engendra Achim. Achim engendra Eliud.
15 And Eliud begat Eleazar; and Eleazar begat Matthan; and Matthan begat Jacob;
Eliud engendra Eléazar. Eléazar engendra Mathan. Mathan engendra Jacob.
16 And Jacob begat Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus, who is called Christ.
Et Jacob engendra Joseph, époux de Marie, de laquelle est né Jésus, qui est appelé Christ.
17 So all the generations from Abraham to David [are] fourteen generations; and from David until the carrying away into Babylon [are] fourteen generations; and from the carrying away into Babylon unto Christ [are] fourteen generations.
Il y a donc en tout, d’Abraham jusqu’à David, quatorze générations; de David jusqu’à la transmigration de Babylone, quatorze générations; et de la transmigration de Babylone jusqu’au Christ, quatorze générations.
18 Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost.
Or telle fut la naissance du Christ: Marie, sa mère, étant fiancée à Joseph, avant qu’ils vinssent ensemble, il se trouva qu’elle avait conçu de l’Esprit-Saint.
19 Then Joseph her husband, being a just [man], and not willing to make her a publick example, was minded to put her away privily.
Mais Joseph, son mari, qui était un homme juste, ne voulant pas la diffamer, résolut de la renvoyer secrètement.
20 But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost.
Et comme il pensait à ces choses, voici qu’un ange du Seigneur lui apparut en songe, disant: Joseph, fils de David, ne crains point de prendre avec toi Marie, ta femme; car ce qui a été engendré en elle est du Saint-Esprit;
21 And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.
Elle enfantera un fils auquel tu donneras le nom de Jésus; car c’est lui qui sauvera son peuple de ses péchés.
22 Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying,
Or tout cela se fit pour que fût accomplie cette parole que le Seigneur a dite par le prophète:
23 Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.
Voilà que la Vierge concevra, et enfantera un fils, et on le nommera Emmanuel, ce que l’on interprète par: Dieu avec nous.
24 Then Joseph being raised from sleep did as the angel of the Lord had bidden him, and took unto him his wife:
Ainsi réveillé de son sommeil, Joseph fit comme l’ange du Seigneur lui avait ordonné, et prit sa femme avec lui.
25 And knew her not till she had brought forth her firstborn son: and he called his name JESUS.
Or il ne l’avait point connue, quand elle enfanta son fils premier-né, à qui il donna le nom de Jésus.
