Matthew 4
1 Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil.
Alors Jésus fut emmené par l'Esprit au désert, pour être tenté par le diable.
2 And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungred.
Il jeûna quarante jours et quarante nuits, après quoi il eut faim.
3 And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread.
Et le tentateur l'ayant abordé, lui dit: «Si tu es Fils de Dieu, ordonne que ces pierres se changent en pains.»
4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.
Mais Jésus répondit: Il est écrit: «l’homme ne vivra pas de pain seulement, mais de toute parole qui sort de la bouche de Dieu.»
5 Then the devil taketh him up into the holy city, and setteth him on a pinnacle of the temple,
Alors le diable le transporta dans la ville sainte, le posa à l'extrémité de l'aile du temple,
6 And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in [their] hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone.
et lui dit: «Si tu es Fils de Dieu, jette-toi en bas; car il est écrit: «Il donnera des «ordres à ses anges, à ton sujet; et ils te porteront sur leurs bras, de peur que ton pied ne heurte contre une pierre.»
7 Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.
Jésus lui dit: Il est écrit aussi: «Tu ne tenteras point le Seigneur ton Dieu.»
8 Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them;
Le diable le transporta encore sur une montagne très-haute, lui montra tous les royaumes du monde et leur gloire,
9 And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me.
et lui dit: «Je te donnerai tout cela, si, te jetant à mes pieds, tu m'adores.»
10 Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.
Jésus lui dit: Retire-toi, Satan; car il est écrit: «Tu adoreras le Seigneur ton Dieu, et tu le serviras lui seul.»
11 Then the devil leaveth him, and, behold, angels came and ministered unto him.
Alors le diable le quitta; et des anges s'approchèrent, et ils le servirent.
12 Now when Jesus had heard that John was cast into prison, he departed into Galilee;
Jésus ayant appris que Jean avait été mis en prison, se retira en Galilée.
13 And leaving Nazareth, he came and dwelt in Capernaum, which is upon the sea coast, in the borders of Zabulon and Nephthalim:
Il quitta Nazareth et alla s'établir à Capernaoum, ville située au bord de la mer, dans le territoire de Zabulon et de Nephthali,
14 That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying,
afin que s'accomplît ce qui a été dit par Esaïe, le prophète:
15 The land of Zabulon, and the land of Nephthalim, [by] the way of the sea, beyond Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles;
«La terre de Zabulon et la terre de Nephthali, ce pays qui s’étend vers la mer jusqu'au delà du Jourdain, la Galilée des Gentils,
16 The people which sat in darkness saw great light; and to them which sat in the region and shadow of death light is sprung up.
ce pays, qui était plongé dans les ténèbres, a vu une grande lumière, et la lumière s'est levée sur ceux qui étaient dans la région et dans l’ombre de la mort.»
17 From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.
Dès lors Jésus se mit à prêcher, disant: «Repentez-vous, car le royaume des cieux est proche.»
18 And Jesus, walking by the sea of Galilee, saw two brethren, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea: for they were fishers.
Comme il cheminait le long de la mer de Galilée, il vit deux frères, Simon, appelé Pierre, et André, son frère, qui jetaient leurs filets dans la mer, car ils étaient pêcheurs.
19 And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.
Et il leur dit: «Venez, suivez-moi, et je vous ferai pêcheurs d'hommes.»
20 And they straightway left [their] nets, and followed him.
Aussitôt ils quittèrent leurs filets, et le suivirent.
21 And going on from thence, he saw other two brethren, James [the son] of Zebedee, and John his brother, in a ship with Zebedee their father, mending their nets; and he called them.
Puis, un peu plus loin, il vit deux autres frères, Jacques, fils de Zébédée, et Jean, son frère, qui raccommodaient leurs filets dans leur barque avec Zébédée leur père, et il les appela.
22 And they immediately left the ship and their father, and followed him.
Aussitôt ils quittèrent leur barque et leur père, et le suivirent.
23 And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people.
Jésus allait par toute la Galilée, enseignant dans les synagogues, prêchant la bonne nouvelle du royaume et guérissant
24 And his fame went throughout all Syria: and they brought unto him all sick people that were taken with divers diseases and torments, and those which were possessed with devils, and those which were lunatick, and those that had the palsy; and he healed them.
toute maladie et toute infirmité parmi le peuple. Sa renommée se répandit dans toute la Syrie, et on lui amena tous ceux qui se portaient mal, qui étaient affligés de maladies et de douleurs diverses, des démoniaques, des lunatiques, des paralytiques, et il les guérit.
25 And there followed him great multitudes of people from Galilee, and [from] Decapolis, and [from] Jerusalem, and [from] Judaea, and [from] beyond Jordan.
Une grande foule le suivit de la Galilée, de la Décapole, de Jérusalem, de la Judée et d'au delà du Jourdain.
