Mark 6
1 And he went out from thence, and came into his own country; and his disciples follow him.
Jésus partit de là et se rendit dans sa patrie. Ses disciples l'accompagnaient.
2 And when the sabbath day was come, he began to teach in the synagogue: and many hearing [him] were astonished, saying, From whence hath this [man] these things? and what wisdom [is] this which is given unto him, that even such mighty works are wrought by his hands?
Quand le sabbat fut venu, il se mit à enseigner dans la synagogue; et plusieurs étaient étonnés en l'entendant et disaient: D'où cela lui vient-il? Quelle est cette sagesse qui lui a été donnée? De pareils miracles se font par ses mains!
3 Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of James, and Joses, and of Juda, and Simon? and are not his sisters here with us? And they were offended at him.
N'est-ce pas le charpentier, le fils de Marie, un frère de Jacques, de Joses, de Jude et de Simon? Ses soeurs ne sont-elles pas ici avec nous? Et il était pour eux une pierre d'achoppement.
4 But Jesus said unto them, A prophet is not without honour, but in his own country, and among his own kin, and in his own house.
Mais Jésus leur dit: «Ce n'est que dans son pays chez ses parents et dans sa maison qu'un prophète n'est pas honoré.»
5 And he could there do no mighty work, save that he laid his hands upon a few sick folk, and healed [them].
Et, sauf un petit nombre de malades qu'il guérit en leur imposant les mains, il ne put faire là aucun miracle:
6 And he marvelled because of their unbelief. And he went round about the villages, teaching.
il était surpris de leur incrédulité. Ensuite il fit une tournée dans les villages en enseignant.
7 And he called [unto him] the twelve, and began to send them forth by two and two; and gave them power over unclean spirits;
Il appela près de lui les Douze et se mit à les envoyer deux à deux, en leur donnant pouvoir sur les esprits impurs.
8 And commanded them that they should take nothing for [their] journey, save a staff only; no scrip, no bread, no money in [their] purse:
Il leur recommanda de ne rien prendre pour la route, si ce n'est un bâton, de n'emporter ni pain, ni sac, ni monnaie dans leur ceinture;
9 But [be] shod with sandals; and not put on two coats.
mais d'être chaussés de sandales et de ne pas mettre deux tuniques.
10 And he said unto them, In what place soever ye enter into an house, there abide till ye depart from that place.
Puis il ajouta: «Dans quelque maison que vous entriez, restez-y, jusqu'à ce que vous partiez de cet endroit,
11 And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear you, when ye depart thence, shake off the dust under your feet for a testimony against them. Verily I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for Sodom and Gomorrha in the day of judgment, than for that city.
et, quel que soit le lieu on l'on ne vous reçoive pas et on l'on ne vous écoute pas, sortez-en, et secouez la poussière de vos pieds pour que cela serve de témoignage aux habitants.»
12 And they went out, and preached that men should repent.
Et les Douze étant partis, prêchèrent qu'on se repentît;
13 And they cast out many devils, and anointed with oil many that were sick, and healed [them].
ils chassaient beaucoup de démons; ils oignaient d'huile beaucoup de malades et les guérissaient.
14 And king Herod heard [of him]; (for his name was spread abroad: ) and he said, That John the Baptist was risen from the dead, and therefore mighty works do shew forth themselves in him.
Le roi Hérode, ayant entendu parler de Jésus, dont le nom était devenu célèbre, dit: «Jean-Baptiste est ressuscité c'est pour cela que la puissance miraculeuse se déploie en lui.»
15 Others said, That it is Elias. And others said, That it is a prophet, or as one of the prophets.
D'autres disaient: «C'est Elie: » d'autres: «C'est un prophète comme l'un des anciens prophètes; »
16 But when Herod heard [thereof], he said, It is John, whom I beheaded: he is risen from the dead.
mais Hérode, entendant ces bruits, disait: «C'est ce Jean que j'ai fait décapiter, qui est ressuscité.»
17 For Herod himself had sent forth and laid hold upon John, and bound him in prison for Herodias’ sake, his brother Philip’s wife: for he had married her.
En effet, c'était lui, Hérode, qui avait fait arrêter Jean et l'avait fait charger de chaînes dans la prison, à cause d'Hérodiade, femme de Philippe, son frère, parce qu'il l'avait épousée,
18 For John had said unto Herod, It is not lawful for thee to have thy brother’s wife.
et que Jean lui avait dit: «Il ne t'est pas permis d'avoir pour femme la femme de ton frère.»
19 Therefore Herodias had a quarrel against him, and would have killed him; but she could not:
Hérodiade qui en voulait à Jean, désirait le faire mettre à mort; mais ne pouvait y parvenir,
20 For Herod feared John, knowing that he was a just man and an holy, and observed him; and when he heard him, he did many things, and heard him gladly.
parce qu'Hérode craignait Jean, le connaissant pour un homme juste et saint; il le protégeait même, et faisait beaucoup de choses, après avoir pris ses conseils, et il les prenait volontiers.
21 And when a convenient day was come, that Herod on his birthday made a supper to his lords, high captains, and chief [estates] of Galilee;
Enfin il se présenta une occasion favorable. Le jour anniversaire de sa naissance, Hérode donna un festin aux grands de sa cour, à ses officiers et aux principaux de la Galilée;
22 And when the daughter of the said Herodias came in, and danced, and pleased Herod and them that sat with him, the king said unto the damsel, Ask of me whatsoever thou wilt, and I will give [it] thee.
et la fille d'Hérodiade étant entrée dans la salle, dansa et charma Hérode ainsi que les convives. Le roi dit à la jeune fille: «Demande-moi ce que tu voudras, et je te le donnerai.»
23 And he sware unto her, Whatsoever thou shalt ask of me, I will give [it] thee, unto the half of my kingdom.
Et il ajouta avec serment: «Quoi que tu me demandes, je te le donnerai, fût-ce même la moitié de mon royaume.»
24 And she went forth, and said unto her mother, What shall I ask? And she said, The head of John the Baptist.
Elle sortit, et dit à sa mère: «Que dois-je demander?» Sa mère lui dit: «La tête de Jean-Baptiste.»
25 And she came in straightway with haste unto the king, and asked, saying, I will that thou give me by and by in a charger the head of John the Baptist.
La jeune fille rentrant aussitôt, s'empressa d'adresser au roi sa demande: «Je veux, dit-elle, que tu me donnes, à l'heure même, dans un bassin, la tête de Jean-Baptiste.»
26 And the king was exceeding sorry; [yet] for his oath’s sake, and for their sakes which sat with him, he would not reject her.
Le roi devint tout triste; mais, à cause de ses serments et à cause des convives, il ne voulut pas la refuser,
27 And immediately the king sent an executioner, and commanded his head to be brought: and he went and beheaded him in the prison,
et il envoya immédiatement un de ses gardes, avec l'ordre d'apporter la tête de Jean. Le garde alla décapiter Jean dans la prison
28 And brought his head in a charger, and gave it to the damsel: and the damsel gave it to her mother.
et apporta sa tête dans un bassin; il la donna à la jeune fille, qui la donna à sa mère.
29 And when his disciples heard [of it], they came and took up his corpse, and laid it in a tomb.
Les disciples de Jean, ayant appris ce meurtre, vinrent prendre le corps de leur maître et le déposèrent dans un sépulcre.
30 And the apostles gathered themselves together unto Jesus, and told him all things, both what they had done, and what they had taught.
Les Apôtres s'étant réunis auprès de Jésus, et lui ayant rapporté tout ce qu'ils avaient fait et tout ce qu'ils avaient enseigné,
31 And he said unto them, Come ye yourselves apart into a desert place, and rest a while: for there were many coming and going, and they had no leisure so much as to eat.
Jésus leur dit: «Venez, vous seuls, à l'écart, dans un lieu solitaire, et prenez un peu de repos.» Il y avait, en effet, beaucoup d'allants et de venants, de sorte que les disciples n'avaient pas même le temps de manger.
32 And they departed into a desert place by ship privately.
Ils s'en allèrent donc, dans une barque, en un lieu solitaire à l'écart.
33 And the people saw them departing, and many knew him, and ran afoot thither out of all cities, and outwent them, and came together unto him.
On les vit partir, et bon nombre de gens devinèrent où ils allaient; ils y accoururent à pied de toutes les villes, et arrivèrent avant eux.
34 And Jesus, when he came out, saw much people, and was moved with compassion toward them, because they were as sheep not having a shepherd: and he began to teach them many things.
Lorsque Jésus sortit de la barque, il vit une grande foute, et fut ému de compassion envers eux, parce qu'ils étaient comme des brebis qui n'ont point de berger; et il se mit à les enseigner longuement.
35 And when the day was now far spent, his disciples came unto him, and said, This is a desert place, and now the time [is] far passed:
Comme l'heure était déjà fort avancée, ses disciples s'approchèrent de lui, et lui dirent: «Ce lieu est désert, et l'heure est déjà fort avancée;
36 Send them away, that they may go into the country round about, and into the villages, and buy themselves bread: for they have nothing to eat.
renvoie-les, afin qu'ils aillent dans les campagnes et dans les villages d'alentour s'acheter de quoi manger.»
37 He answered and said unto them, Give ye them to eat. And they say unto him, Shall we go and buy two hundred pennyworth of bread, and give them to eat?
Il leur répondit: «Donnez-leur, vous-mêmes, à manger.» Et ils lui dirent: «Que nous allions acheter pour deux cents deniers de pain, et que nous leur donnions à manger!»
38 He saith unto them, How many loaves have ye? go and see. And when they knew, they say, Five, and two fishes.
Jésus reprit: «Combien de pains avez-vous? Allez, voyez.» Et eux, s'en étant assurés, dirent: «Cinq pains et deux poissons.»
39 And he commanded them to make all sit down by companies upon the green grass.
Alors il leur commanda de faire asseoir tout le monde, par groupes, sur l'herbe verte;
40 And they sat down in ranks, by hundreds, and by fifties.
et ils s'assirent par troupes de cent et de cinquante.
41 And when he had taken the five loaves and the two fishes, he looked up to heaven, and blessed, and brake the loaves, and gave [them] to his disciples to set before them; and the two fishes divided he among them all.
Jésus prit les cinq pains et les deux poissons, et, levant les yeux au ciel, il prononça la bénédiction; puis il rompit les pains et les donna à ses disciples, pour qu'ils les distribuassent. Il partagea aussi les deux poissons entre tous.
42 And they did all eat, and were filled.
Tous mangèrent et furent rassasiés;
43 And they took up twelve baskets full of the fragments, and of the fishes.
et l’on emporta douze corbeilles pleines de morceaux de pain et de ce qui restait des poissons.
44 And they that did eat of the loaves were about five thousand men.
Le nombre de ceux qui mangèrent des pains, s'élevait à cinq mille hommes.
45 And straightway he constrained his disciples to get into the ship, and to go to the other side before unto Bethsaida, while he sent away the people.
Aussitôt après, Jésus pressa ses disciples d'entrer dans la barque et de le précéder vers l'autre rive, du côté de Bethsaïde, pendant que lui-même renverrait la foule.
46 And when he had sent them away, he departed into a mountain to pray.
Après avoir pris congé d'elle, il s'en alla sur la montagne pour prier.
47 And when even was come, the ship was in the midst of the sea, and he alone on the land.
Quand la nuit fut venue, la barque était au milieu de la mer, et Jésus était seul à terre.
48 And he saw them toiling in rowing; for the wind was contrary unto them: and about the fourth watch of the night he cometh unto them, walking upon the sea, and would have passed by them.
Ayant aperçu ses disciples qui avaient une traversée pénible, car le vent leur était contraire, il vint vers eux, à la quatrième veille de la nuit environ, en marchant sur la mer; il voulait les dépasser.
49 But when they saw him walking upon the sea, they supposed it had been a spirit, and cried out:
Mais eux, le voyant marcher sur la mer, crurent que c'était un fantôme, et poussèrent des cris;
50 For they all saw him, and were troubled. And immediately he talked with them, and saith unto them, Be of good cheer: it is I; be not afraid.
car ils le voyaient tous, et ils étaient bouleversés. Alors il leur parla et leur dit: «Rassurez-vous, c'est moi; n'ayez point de peur.»
51 And he went up unto them into the ship; and the wind ceased: and they were sore amazed in themselves beyond measure, and wondered.
Puis il entra auprès d'eux dans la barque, et le vent cessa. Et les disciples en furent stupéfaits et surpris au delà de toute idée;
52 For they considered not [the miracle] of the loaves: for their heart was hardened.
car ils n'avaient rien compris à l'affaire des pains, parce que leur coeur était aveuglé.
53 And when they had passed over, they came into the land of Gennesaret, and drew to the shore.
Lorsqu'ils eurent achevé leur traversée, ils arrivèrent au pays de Génésareth, et abordèrent.
54 And when they were come out of the ship, straightway they knew him,
A peine eurent-ils débarqué, que les gens reconnaissant Jésus,
55 And ran through that whole region round about, and began to carry about in beds those that were sick, where they heard he was.
coururent çà et là, dans tous les environs, et l'on se mit à transporter les malades sur leurs lits, partout où l’on entendait dire qu'il était.
56 And whithersoever he entered, into villages, or cities, or country, they laid the sick in the streets, and besought him that they might touch if it were but the border of his garment: and as many as touched him were made whole.
En quelque lieu qu'il entrât, dans les villages, dans les villes ou dans les campagnes, on déposait les malades sur les places publiques, et on le priait de les laisser seulement toucher la houppe de son manteau; et tous ceux qui pouvaient toucher Jésus étaient guéris.
