Luke 1
1 Forasmuch as many have taken in hand to set forth in order a declaration of those things which are most surely believed among us,
१बहुतों ने उन बातों का जो हमारे बीच में बीती हैं, इतिहास लिखने में हाथ लगाया है।
2 Even as they delivered them unto us, which from the beginning were eyewitnesses, and ministers of the word;
२जैसा कि उन्होंने जो पहले ही से इन बातों के देखनेवाले और वचन के सेवक थे हम तक पहुँचाया।
3 It seemed good to me also, having had perfect understanding of all things from the very first, to write unto thee in order, most excellent Theophilus,
३इसलिए हे श्रीमान थियुफिलुस मुझे भी यह उचित मालूम हुआ कि उन सब बातों का सम्पूर्ण हाल आरम्भ से ठीक-ठीक जाँच करके उन्हें तेरे लिये क्रमानुसार लिखूँ,
4 That thou mightest know the certainty of those things, wherein thou hast been instructed.
४कि तू यह जान ले, कि वे बातें जिनकी तूने शिक्षा पाई है, कैसी अटल हैं।
5 There was in the days of Herod, the king of Judæa, a certain priest named Zacharias, of the course of Abia: and his wife [was] of the daughters of Aaron, and her name [was] Elisabeth.
५यहूदिया के राजा हेरोदेस के समय अबिय्याह के दल में जकर्याह नाम का एक याजक था, और उसकी पत्नी हारून के वंश की थी, जिसका नाम एलीशिबा था।
6 And they were both righteous before God, walking in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord blameless.
६और वे दोनों परमेश्वर के सामने धर्मी थे, और प्रभु की सारी आज्ञाओं और विधियों पर निर्दोष चलनेवाले थे।
7 And they had no child, because that Elisabeth was barren, and they both were [now] well stricken in years.
७उनके कोई सन्तान न थी, क्योंकि एलीशिबा बाँझ थी, और वे दोनों बूढ़े थे।
8 And it came to pass, that while he executed the priest’s office before God in the order of his course,
८जब वह अपने दल की पारी पर परमेश्वर के सामने याजक का काम करता था।
9 According to the custom of the priest’s office, his lot was to burn incense when he went into the temple of the Lord.
९तो याजकों की रीति के अनुसार उसके नाम पर चिट्ठी निकली, कि प्रभु के मन्दिर में जाकर धूप जलाए।
10 And the whole multitude of the people were praying without at the time of incense.
१०और धूप जलाने के समय लोगों की सारी मण्डली बाहर प्रार्थना कर रही थी।
11 And there appeared unto him an angel of the Lord standing on the right side of the altar of incense.
११कि प्रभु का एक स्वर्गदूत धूप की वेदी की दाहिनी ओर खड़ा हुआ उसको दिखाई दिया।
12 And when Zacharias saw [him], he was troubled, and fear fell upon him.
१२और जकर्याह देखकर घबराया और उस पर बड़ा भय छा गया।
13 But the angel said unto him, Fear not, Zacharias: for thy prayer is heard; and thy wife Elisabeth shall bear thee a son, and thou shalt call his name John.
१३परन्तु स्वर्गदूत ने उससे कहा, “हे जकर्याह, भयभीत न हो क्योंकि तेरी प्रार्थना सुन ली गई है और तेरी पत्नी एलीशिबा से तेरे लिये एक पुत्र उत्पन्न होगा, और तू उसका नाम यूहन्ना रखना।
14 And thou shalt have joy and gladness; and many shall rejoice at his birth.
१४और तुझे आनन्द और हर्ष होगा और बहुत लोग उसके जन्म के कारण आनन्दित होंगे।
15 For he shall be great in the sight of the Lord, and shall drink neither wine nor strong drink; and he shall be filled with the Holy Ghost, even from his mother’s womb.
१५क्योंकि वह प्रभु के सामने महान होगा; और दाखरस और मदिरा कभी न पीएगा; और अपनी माता के गर्भ ही से पवित्र आत्मा से परिपूर्ण हो जाएगा।
16 And many of the children of Israel shall he turn to the Lord their God.
१६और इस्राएलियों में से बहुतों को उनके प्रभु परमेश्वर की ओर फेरेगा।
17 And he shall go before him in the spirit and power of Elias, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just; to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.
१७वह एलिय्याह की आत्मा और सामर्थ्य में होकर उसके आगे-आगे चलेगा, कि पिताओं का मन बाल-बच्चों की ओर फेर दे; और आज्ञा न माननेवालों को धर्मियों की समझ पर लाए; और प्रभु के लिये एक योग्य प्रजा तैयार करे।”
18 And Zacharias said unto the angel, Whereby shall I know this? for I am an old man, and my wife well stricken in years.
१८जकर्याह ने स्वर्गदूत से पूछा, “यह मैं कैसे जानूँ? क्योंकि मैं तो बूढ़ा हूँ; और मेरी पत्नी भी बूढ़ी हो गई है।”
19 And the angel answering said unto him, I am Gabriel, that stand in the presence of God; and am sent to speak unto thee, and to shew thee these glad tidings.
१९स्वर्गदूत ने उसको उत्तर दिया, “मैं गब्रिएल हूँ, जो परमेश्वर के सामने खड़ा रहता हूँ; और मैं तुझ से बातें करने और तुझे यह सुसमाचार सुनाने को भेजा गया हूँ।
20 And, behold, thou shalt be dumb, and not able to speak, until the day that these things shall be performed, because thou believest not my words, which shall be fulfilled in their season.
२०और देख, जिस दिन तक ये बातें पूरी न हो लें, उस दिन तक तू मौन रहेगा, और बोल न सकेगा, इसलिए कि तूने मेरी बातों की जो अपने समय पर पूरी होंगी, विश्वास न किया।”
21 And the people waited for Zacharias, and marvelled that he tarried so long in the temple.
२१लोग जकर्याह की प्रतीक्षा करते रहे और अचम्भा करने लगे कि उसे मन्दिर में ऐसी देर क्यों लगी?
22 And when he came out, he could not speak unto them: and they perceived that he had seen a vision in the temple: for he beckoned unto them, and remained speechless.
२२जब वह बाहर आया, तो उनसे बोल न सका अतः वे जान गए, कि उसने मन्दिर में कोई दर्शन पाया है; और वह उनसे संकेत करता रहा, और गूँगा रह गया।
23 And it came to pass, that, as soon as the days of his ministration were accomplished, he departed to his own house.
२३जब उसकी सेवा के दिन पूरे हुए, तो वह अपने घर चला गया।
24 And after those days his wife Elisabeth conceived, and hid herself five months, saying,
२४इन दिनों के बाद उसकी पत्नी एलीशिबा गर्भवती हुई; और पाँच महीने तक अपने आपको यह कह के छिपाए रखा।
25 Thus hath the Lord dealt with me in the days wherein he looked on [me], to take away my reproach among men.
२५“मनुष्यों में मेरा अपमान दूर करने के लिये प्रभु ने इन दिनों में कृपादृष्टि करके मेरे लिये ऐसा किया है।”
26 And in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God unto a city of Galilee, named Nazareth,
२६छठवें महीने में परमेश्वर की ओर से गब्रिएल स्वर्गदूत गलील के नासरत नगर में,
27 To a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin’s name [was] Mary.
२७एक कुँवारी के पास भेजा गया। जिसकी मंगनी यूसुफ नाम दाऊद के घराने के एक पुरुष से हुई थी: उस कुँवारी का नाम मरियम था।
28 And the angel came in unto her, and said, Hail, [thou that art] highly favoured, the Lord [is] with thee: blessed [art] thou among women.
२८और स्वर्गदूत ने उसके पास भीतर आकर कहा, “आनन्द और जय तेरी हो, जिस पर परमेश्वर का अनुग्रह हुआ है! प्रभु तेरे साथ है!”
29 And when she saw [him], she was troubled at his saying, and cast in her mind what manner of salutation this should be.
२९वह उस वचन से बहुत घबरा गई, और सोचने लगी कि यह किस प्रकार का अभिवादन है?
30 And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God.
३०स्वर्गदूत ने उससे कहा, “हे मरियम; भयभीत न हो, क्योंकि परमेश्वर का अनुग्रह तुझ पर हुआ है।
31 And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS.
३१और देख, तू गर्भवती होगी, और तेरे एक पुत्र उत्पन्न होगा; तू उसका नाम यीशु रखना।
32 He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David:
३२वह महान होगा; और परमप्रधान का पुत्र कहलाएगा; और प्रभु परमेश्वर उसके पिता दाऊद का सिंहासन उसको देगा।
33 And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end. (aiōn g165)
३३और वह याकूब के घराने पर सदा राज्य करेगा; और उसके राज्य का अन्त न होगा।” (aiōn g165)
34 Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man?
३४मरियम ने स्वर्गदूत से कहा, “यह कैसे होगा? मैं तो पुरुष को जानती ही नहीं।”
35 And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.
३५स्वर्गदूत ने उसको उत्तर दिया, “पवित्र आत्मा तुझ पर उतरेगा, और परमप्रधान की सामर्थ्य तुझ पर छाया करेगी; इसलिए वह पवित्र जो उत्पन्न होनेवाला है, परमेश्वर का पुत्र कहलाएगा।
36 And, behold, thy cousin Elisabeth, she hath also conceived a son in her old age: and this is the sixth month with her, who was called barren.
३६और देख, और तेरी कुटुम्बिनी एलीशिबा के भी बुढ़ापे में पुत्र होनेवाला है, यह उसका, जो बाँझ कहलाती थी छठवाँ महीना है।
37 For with God nothing shall be impossible.
३७परमेश्वर के लिए कुछ भी असम्भव नहीं है।”
38 And Mary said, Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word. And the angel departed from her.
३८मरियम ने कहा, “देख, मैं प्रभु की दासी हूँ, तेरे वचन के अनुसार मेरे साथ ऐसा हो।” तब स्वर्गदूत उसके पास से चला गया।
39 And Mary arose in those days, and went into the hill country with haste, into a city of Juda;
३९उन दिनों में मरियम उठकर शीघ्र ही पहाड़ी देश में यहूदा के एक नगर को गई।
40 And entered into the house of Zacharias, and saluted Elisabeth.
४०और जकर्याह के घर में जाकर एलीशिबा को नमस्कार किया।
41 And it came to pass, that, when Elisabeth heard the salutation of Mary, the babe leaped in her womb; and Elisabeth was filled with the Holy Ghost:
४१जैसे ही एलीशिबा ने मरियम का नमस्कार सुना, वैसे ही बच्चा उसके पेट में उछला, और एलीशिबा पवित्र आत्मा से परिपूर्ण हो गई।
42 And she spake out with a loud voice, and said, Blessed [art] thou among women, and blessed [is] the fruit of thy womb.
४२और उसने बड़े शब्द से पुकारकर कहा, “तू स्त्रियों में धन्य है, और तेरे पेट का फल धन्य है!
43 And whence [is] this to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me?
४३और यह अनुग्रह मुझे कहाँ से हुआ, कि मेरे प्रभु की माता मेरे पास आई?
44 For, lo, as soon as the voice of thy salutation sounded in mine ears, the babe leaped in my womb for joy.
४४और देख जैसे ही तेरे नमस्कार का शब्द मेरे कानों में पड़ा वैसे ही बच्चा मेरे पेट में आनन्द से उछल पड़ा।
45 And blessed [is] she that believed: for there shall be a performance of those things which were told her from the Lord.
४५और धन्य है, वह जिसने विश्वास किया कि जो बातें प्रभु की ओर से उससे कही गई, वे पूरी होंगी।”
46 And Mary said, My soul doth magnify the Lord,
४६तब मरियम ने कहा, “मेरा प्राण प्रभु की बड़ाई करता है।
47 And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour.
४७और मेरी आत्मा मेरे उद्धार करनेवाले परमेश्वर से आनन्दित हुई।
48 For he hath regarded the low estate of his handmaiden: for, behold, from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed.
४८क्योंकि उसने अपनी दासी की दीनता पर दृष्टि की है; इसलिए देखो, अब से सब युग-युग के लोग मुझे धन्य कहेंगे।
49 For he that is mighty hath done to me great things; and holy [is] his name.
४९क्योंकि उस शक्तिमान ने मेरे लिये बड़े- बड़े काम किए हैं, और उसका नाम पवित्र है।
50 And his mercy [is] on them that fear him from generation to generation.
५०और उसकी दया उन पर, जो उससे डरते हैं, पीढ़ी से पीढ़ी तक बनी रहती है।
51 He hath shewed strength with his arm; he hath scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts.
५१उसने अपना भुजबल दिखाया, और जो अपने मन में घमण्ड करते थे, उन्हें तितर-बितर किया।
52 He hath put down the mighty from [their] seats, and exalted them of low degree.
५२उसने शासकों को सिंहासनों से गिरा दिया; और दीनों को ऊँचा किया।
53 He hath filled the hungry with good things; and the rich he hath sent empty away.
५३उसने भूखों को अच्छी वस्तुओं से तृप्त किया, और धनवानों को खाली हाथ निकाल दिया।
54 He hath holpen his servant Israel, in remembrance of [his] mercy;
५४उसने अपने सेवक इस्राएल को सम्भाल लिया कि अपनी उस दया को स्मरण करे,
५५जो अब्राहम और उसके वंश पर सदा रहेगी, जैसा उसने हमारे पूर्वजों से कहा था।” (aiōn g165)
56 And Mary abode with her about three months, and returned to her own house.
५६मरियम लगभग तीन महीने उसके साथ रहकर अपने घर लौट गई।
57 Now Elisabeth’s full time came that she should be delivered; and she brought forth a son.
५७तब एलीशिबा के जनने का समय पूरा हुआ, और वह पुत्र जनी।
58 And her neighbours and her cousins heard how the Lord had shewed great mercy upon her; and they rejoiced with her.
५८उसके पड़ोसियों और कुटुम्बियों ने यह सुनकर, कि प्रभु ने उस पर बड़ी दया की है, उसके साथ आनन्दित हुए।
59 And it came to pass, that on the eighth day they came to circumcise the child; and they called him Zacharias, after the name of his father.
५९और ऐसा हुआ कि आठवें दिन वे बालक का खतना करने आए और उसका नाम उसके पिता के नाम पर जकर्याह रखने लगे।
60 And his mother answered and said, Not [so]; but he shall be called John.
६०और उसकी माता ने उत्तर दिया, “नहीं; वरन् उसका नाम यूहन्ना रखा जाए।”
61 And they said unto her, There is none of thy kindred that is called by this name.
६१और उन्होंने उससे कहा, “तेरे कुटुम्ब में किसी का यह नाम नहीं।”
62 And they made signs to his father, how he would have him called.
६२तब उन्होंने उसके पिता से संकेत करके पूछा कि तू उसका नाम क्या रखना चाहता है?
63 And he asked for a writing table, and wrote, saying, His name is John. And they marvelled all.
६३और उसने लिखने की पट्टी मँगवाकर लिख दिया, “उसका नाम यूहन्ना है,” और सभी ने अचम्भा किया।
64 And his mouth was opened immediately, and his tongue [loosed], and he spake, and praised God.
६४तब उसका मुँह और जीभ तुरन्त खुल गई; और वह बोलने और परमेश्वर की स्तुति करने लगा।
65 And fear came on all that dwelt round about them: and all these sayings were noised abroad throughout all the hill country of Judæa.
६५और उसके आस-पास के सब रहनेवालों पर भय छा गया; और उन सब बातों की चर्चा यहूदिया के सारे पहाड़ी देश में फैल गई।
66 And all they that heard [them] laid [them] up in their hearts, saying, What manner of child shall this be! And the hand of the Lord was with him.
६६और सब सुननेवालों ने अपने-अपने मन में विचार करके कहा, “यह बालक कैसा होगा?” क्योंकि प्रभु का हाथ उसके साथ था।
67 And his father Zacharias was filled with the Holy Ghost, and prophesied, saying,
६७और उसका पिता जकर्याह पवित्र आत्मा से परिपूर्ण हो गया, और भविष्यद्वाणी करने लगा।
68 Blessed [be] the Lord God of Israel; for he hath visited and redeemed his people,
६८“प्रभु इस्राएल का परमेश्वर धन्य हो, कि उसने अपने लोगों पर दृष्टि की और उनका छुटकारा किया है,
69 And hath raised up an horn of salvation for us in the house of his servant David;
६९और अपने सेवक दाऊद के घराने में हमारे लिये एक उद्धार का सींग निकाला,
70 As he spake by the mouth of his holy prophets, which have been since the world began: (aiōn g165)
७०जैसे उसने अपने पवित्र भविष्यद्वक्ताओं के द्वारा जो जगत के आदि से होते आए हैं, कहा था, (aiōn g165)
71 That we should be saved from our enemies, and from the hand of all that hate us;
७१अर्थात् हमारे शत्रुओं से, और हमारे सब बैरियों के हाथ से हमारा उद्धार किया है;
72 To perform the mercy [promised] to our fathers, and to remember his holy covenant;
७२कि हमारे पूर्वजों पर दया करके अपनी पवित्र वाचा का स्मरण करे,
73 The oath which he sware to our father Abraham,
७३और वह शपथ जो उसने हमारे पिता अब्राहम से खाई थी,
74 That he would grant unto us, that we being delivered out of the hand of our enemies might serve him without fear,
७४कि वह हमें यह देगा, कि हम अपने शत्रुओं के हाथ से छूटकर,
75 In holiness and righteousness before him, all the days of our life.
७५उसके सामने पवित्रता और धार्मिकता से जीवन भर निडर रहकर उसकी सेवा करते रहें।
76 And thou, child, shalt be called the prophet of the Highest: for thou shalt go before the face of the Lord to prepare his ways;
७६और तू हे बालक, परमप्रधान का भविष्यद्वक्ता कहलाएगा, क्योंकि तू प्रभु के मार्ग तैयार करने के लिये उसके आगे-आगे चलेगा,
77 To give knowledge of salvation unto his people by the remission of their sins,
७७कि उसके लोगों को उद्धार का ज्ञान दे, जो उनके पापों की क्षमा से प्राप्त होता है।
78 Through the tender mercy of our God; whereby the dayspring from on high hath visited us,
७८यह हमारे परमेश्वर की उसी बड़ी करुणा से होगा; जिसके कारण ऊपर से हम पर भोर का प्रकाश उदय होगा।
79 To give light to them that sit in darkness and [in] the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.
७९कि अंधकार और मृत्यु की छाया में बैठनेवालों को ज्योति दे, और हमारे पाँवों को कुशल के मार्ग में सीधे चलाए।”
80 And the child grew, and waxed strong in spirit, and was in the deserts till the day of his shewing unto Israel.
८०और वह बालक यूहन्ना, बढ़ता और आत्मा में बलवन्त होता गया और इस्राएल पर प्रगट होने के दिन तक जंगलों में रहा।
